Television The Walking Dead

Anyway I thought it was a pretty corny and weak episode, mainly due to how Rick and Daryl were like total amateur's with the van and that guy whatever his name is (jesus?)...

And Carl is morphing into the Guv'ner.

I really liked the episode before more than this one.

Yep. Definitely weird...

At least we got to enjoy some tastefully delivered product placement.

.

Let me guess, you're not familiar with the comics are you? You know, the origins of the entire series?

Jesus is an exceptional fighter. Trained in armed combat and unarmed combat. In the comics, it was Michonne and Abraham that he originally makes look "like total amateurs." So of course he's going to make Rick and Daryl look like total amateurs too. If he didn't, that would go completely against his character in the original series. What would be the point of even introducing such a character like Jesus if they're going make him a weak sissy that can't even take care of himself?

As for your other comment, last I checked, people don't have to specify that they're being racist in order for them to actually be racist. For the most part, a lot of people now a days are racist and they don't even know it. It's a white people thing. Don't get me wrong, I'm not sayin I'm free of sin or anything, but I'm a lot more self conscious about these things than most.

Only thing weird about this whole thing is your reactions.

Jesus mother fucking Paul Monroe!

my man!! you all are about to witness a bad ass on the level of Daryl, Rick, and Michonne (IMO Glen, but I'll save my Glen fanboyism for another time)

Having not read the comics, I'm struggling against the temptation to Google myself some spoilers.

there really isn't much to spoil at this point. the next 2 years of this show is pretty much laid out for you. listen to what Jesus says, what he represents. think about what Negan and Co represent. think about how that will surely clash with Rick. think about them all clashin'

i watched the first 5 seasons of this recently and really enjoyed it. i think it really started to fire on all cylinders in season 2 i think that two specific events were real turning points for me: [spoil]s02e07: when zombiefied sophia emerges from the barn and rick shoots her[/spoil] and [spoil]s03e04: when lori dies giving birth[/spoil].

i love the writing and the ensemble cast. i also like the fact that (like game of thrones) they're not afraid to kill off major characters.

i've really enjoyed daryl and carol's character evolution. and, of course, i have a crush on maggie :)

alasdair

Im finding the writing boring and sloppy, far too many dull filler episodes. None of the characters have any memoriable humor or charisma, i find myself unable to really give a shit about any of them

Yeah if you take out the scenes where people are walking, staring at eachother, or having the same dumb ethical debates they've had a thousand times already, half the show would be gone.

This is the reason I usually finish an episode in less than ten minutes. I should stop watching but I feel like I've already invested too much to not see it end.

And Fear the Walking Dead, anyone? To me something of a mixed bag heavy on the meh. Travis Manawa, on the other hand, might to me be the absolutely rock bottom least likeable nominal television protagonist I can remember in I dunno how long; I heartily look forward to the potentiality of seeing him devoured by a walker in particulate graphic fashion, but feel that we may be deprived of that. Also, Salazar is pretty badass, Strand has potential, and all of the women are pretty damn easy on the eyes. Plot though idk; it's heading somewhere I presume...

Oh how I wish you were right, but I found that episode (and most every episode) so insulting to my intelligence that until I get multiple green lights and thumbs up from respected peers to an on screen execution of Carol, I will never watch the show ever again, that arm shooting was such a dicktease that I will never fall fool again until the deed is done!

So, let me get this straight, it's not Rick(the white male) you have a problem with, it's MICHONNE(the black female)? That's not a compromise, that's even more racist. Not to mention, you're putting sexuality in a box. Masculine women are all the rage now, where have you been? Either way, people like you are pitiful.
Yes I'm willing to hold anyone looking that bad on screen subject to ridicule. I must be unique, lmfao Look at the above scrreen shots and tell me that doesn't look like miles fucking davis, it's not my fault, it's the show for putting such an obvious medusa in such a preposterous position. Seriously fuck AMC! I look at that thrid picture you posted and think of Kind of Blue.....not any sort of millennial interracial fracas. It looks gross and should be burned! That first picture looks like me and an escort, not an actual couple. Give me a fucking break. If the actress was a 20 something Tyra Banks or 20 something Beyonce than, there would be no argument, but seriously if everyone thought that third pic you posted of Miles Davis and Rick was hot, than our species will no doubt be a beiged "Sloth" from The Goonies.....maybe yours but not mine lmfao

Apart from Travis for above reason's, I find the characters in Fear the Walking Dead infinitely more interesting then those in The Walking Dead. The show seems like it has a higher production budget..

Then again it could just be that TWD has repeated the same sequence of events for the last four season's forcing the characters to become cliche and comical parody's of themselves, that viewing an entirely different set of characters in a similar but different situation is enormously refreshing.. I guess time will tell with FTWD.

Actually I think your, point is well taken; having seen there pre-apocalypse lives and time spent adjusting to the new order of things does give the characters a certain (for lack of a better phrase, groan) three dimensionality.

Obiter, seeing junkie "resourcefulness" used resourcefully and not entirely as a matter of scumfuckery (although some scumfuckery doubtless abides) is refreshing. You saw the at times in The Wire's Bubbles, when not being player either for comic relief or pathos. Nick's character is well done and acted IMO. I like how his relationship with his sister and mom* are played, too.

*Strictly talent speaking though I think Kim Dickens is perhaps the strongest actor of the bunch, Ruben Blades as well.

I concur. I am beginning to like FTWD more and more with each passing episode, even moreso than TWD. My favorite characters are Strand and Nick. They've got good chemistry together.

I agree that FTWD especially into the season is maturing well. Not sure if I can go so far as to say I like it as much as at least the middle few seasons of TWD (after which it begins to be a bit repetitive ... though everyone who's into the comics ensures us that the Neagen saga will be epic) but maybe the more recent output

looking forward to tonight for sure

Good episode tonight. Especially good performance from Alycia Debnam-Carey (uh...Alicia p.s. she is way better looking in the show stripped down w/o a lot of makeup than on her appearance on the "Talking Dead" show later with way too much makeup but I digress) and Colman Domingo (Strand.) I think Travis's likability problems are slightly resolving. Avoiding spoilers some of the dynamics, i.e. a smaller group of survivors put against a larger, well-organized, better-equipped group, as (perhaps too many times) frequently occured in the original; but everyone is still much more naïve about the world they're now inhabiting (viz. even the need to terminate a walker with a headshot!) and the different setting of course (seaborne versus landlocked and rural) is impactful. I'm definitely enioying this series more and more.
