david bowie r.i.p.

I've said it elsewhere but it can't be said enough times, he was a true icon & legend. Very sad day indeed.... <3

Just for the sake of clarity for those hearing for the first time. He had been battling with cancer in secret for the past 18 months.

This is like a kick in the guts.
Did not expect this a couple of days after his latest album came out.
A musical master - pop culture genius. His legacy is unrivalled.

You know that all the mortals are by definition going to die someday. But nonetheless some deaths shock you and feel like reality has clearly jumped the rail. God, I loved David Bowie. I had disbelief and denial on receiving the news like I've had for my grandparents.

I admit some of his projects didn't receive nothing but praise from me. He was a genius and I'm forever grateful for his contributions.

I usually don't get too torn up over stuff like this, but I feel like I just got kicked in the balls. I can't remember a time in my life when he hasn't been in constant rotation. Great guy. RIP to the thin white duke.

Seems like he went out a lot like Warren Zevon, cramming this last album in as fast as he could because he knew his fate. Totally respectable and awesome. I haven't listened to it yet, but I'm gonna eat a pot candy and listen to it after work.

He must've knew his time was running out I just heard on the radio he's had 6 heart attacks in the past year!Yes I know he died of cancer, just saying 6 heart attacks ,shit that's a lot!!!

I'm an alligator, I'm a mama-papa coming for you
I'm the space invader, I'll be a rock 'n' rollin' bitch for you
Keep your mouth shut,
you're squawking like a pink monkey bird
And I'm busting up my brains for the words
Coolest Bowie song of all time!!!!

Amazing talent.

Iggy Pop, when talking about their time together in Berlin, made a comment along the lines of him being a happy recipient of Bowie's overflow of awesome ideas. What I couldn't understand was why Bowie would move to Berlin with Iggy to get over his drug problems. Unless he got over his coke addiction by taking up H.

R.I.P.

I agree. What an icon. RIP. My favorite album is stationtostation . Great album. I am how ever going to listen to his stuff from the begining. YouTube has a bitching The Jean Genie video on there. Check it out.

This si the first time I am posting in this section of bluelight, But David Bowie is one of my personal heroes for so many fucking reasons. I normally do not have strong emotions about celbrity deaths but god damn....We lost a creative god.

There is definitely a hole in the music world right now. Is there another artist that can come close to filling that void? Never, but there has to be someone. Not a replacement, but a creative cutting edge artist that has similar qualities.

^I don't think there has been for years. Its all homogenous now.

Classic funny clip- nice little tune :)

I don't know - there are some pretty interesting artists around nowadays.
Bowie was pretty revolutionary because he used rock'n'roll to challenge a lot of social norms, gender roles and such.

It would be impossible to make that kind of impact in the current musical/social/global media climate nowadays.
Music has lost the power to shock - but not the power to move or inspire us.
Bowie was amazing, and part of his brilliance was being one step ahead of the zeitgeist, and using it to his advantage (with great skill).
