I was driving along yesterday afternoon, Led Zeppelin 'Friends' blaring full blast, I felt like a total bad ass with the windows down, in slow moving traffic on the M8. One woman looked at me with a kind of disgusted look, I just continued to sing full blast staring right back at her, emphasising every word - she got scared and looked away.

Anyway, I have came to the conclusion that if somebody doesn't like the music of Led Zeppelin there must be something actually wrong with their brain. They must have been dropped on their head or something, does anybody know where I'm coming from?

I dunno, i must admit i really don't like led zeppelin.
I saw robert plant live a couple of years ago (he played right before iggy and the stooges) and i thought it was fairly awful.
Fucking love Black Sabbath...and the Yardbirds (who Led Zep kind of formed in the wake of) - but i'm not a Zeppelin fan.

Having said that, i was dropped on my head immediately after being born. On the floor of the car as my ol' man was gunning it to the hospital.
Maybe "whole lotta love" was playing on the stereo at the time? I'll have to ask my folks.
I always put my dislike down to their notorious plagiarism, but maybe you're onto something ;)

See dude, my head dropping thing still stands. Sorry to hear that happened to you though.

I do like Sabbath and I love Iggy too. Any Sabbath dates announced in Europe yet, was thinking about going abroad to see them.

Haha, i made up the head dropping thing, but i can't be expected to remember absolutely everything that happened in my formative years.
I dunno about Europe, but Sabbath are touring Australia in March. I saw them a couple of years ago with Ozzy, it was pretty fucking sensational. I'd recommend checking 'em out if you get the chance, they still fucking got it.
I plan to see them again.

Ozzy will be playing with them, it's going to be a once in a lifetime thing for me anyway.

Hell yeah.
Seeing him perform made me think that the whole doddery drug casualty character he played in that reality tv show was just an act, hamming it up.
'Cause when i saw em he was pretty damn on. No fucking around.

I'm sure it will be a spectacle, one I want to witness.

I went to see The Rolling Stones a few years back in Hampden Park in Glasgow, Jagger was strutting that stage like a 20 something.

My tickets cost £60.00, so I was up in 'The Gods' - there was no fucking way I was staying up there to see ants walking about a stage. So my mate and I jumped the fence and bolted across the field managing to dodge security. So I was right up the front for the whole concert man, it was awesome! I don't even like stadiums for gigs.

Seen Paul McCartney a year or two later at the same place, but it was a different kind of show, he played for 3 hours though! Live and Let Die was his last tune, epic to say the least.

I love my music mate, past and present - going to see Django Django in the Barrowlands in December, excited about that, kind of psychedelic rock.

My dad favourite band so I'm putting that down to that the reason why I don't like them. But to be honest I was also dropped on the head as a baba (true story) so you are probably right. Love the stooges and iggy pop, the way he runs around that stage like a madman haha what a legend. Django Django are quality!! Barrowlands as well, thinking of getting the bro tickets for Christmas! Anyone any other new artists they're in to atm? I'm lacking new music that isn't reggae or techno/house.

btw that was a very funny mental image I got there of your moment on the m8 fucking lol!

Yeah, stadium shows are generally pretty fucking awful, even with the best acts.
I prefer an intimate club or a theatre any day.

I've said this on BL before when people have asked similar things, but there is a Californian band called Thee Oh Sees that are pretty fucking great - especially live. They're touring australia in January, so i'll be seeing them i think for the 5th time.

They have an awesome mix of energetic sort of punk rock with an excellent psychedelic spacey-fractal-shimmer. Very lively, crazy and melodic.
Not many bands can pull that combination off...!

Haha!

These are 'newish' artists that I'm listening to or really into at the minute, some a couple of years old so you probably know them:
'Tame Impala' are another awesome neo psychedelic group, but you probabaly know them already
'Kurt Vile' solo stuff or 'The War on Drugs' his band
'Run The Jewels' industrial hip hop stuff if that's your thing, but fucking awesome
'Rhye' A dude that sounds like a burd, but the music is lovely, few years old though
'Phosphorescent' Just awesome stuff

Other stuff that's not so new that I've been listening to a lot of lately:
'Kraftwerk'
'Arcade Fire'
'T Rex'
'Funkadelic'
'Mogwai'
'Silver Apples'
'Lynyrd Skynyrd'
Leonard Cohen'
'Neil Young'
'Pink Floyd'
'Chvrches'
'Led Zepp'
'Apparat'
'Beck'
'Bob Dylan'
'Bo Diddley'
'East India Youth'
'Depeche Mode'
'Rossini' You know, ‎The Barber of Seville, music form A Clockwork Orange and shit!

Get some of this listened to if you haven't already.

Do you like any Krautrock stuff Smiley?

You must admit Evey, they'd be great to see live even if they are not particularly your thing.

Their latest album was brilliant, they still have it and Ozzy has got such a distinctive voice. Sabbath aren't even in my top 10 bands of all time and I feel like I'm shouting their praises here! I suppose I appreciate their artistic merit.

For me though, few tabs of LSD and stick on Led Zepp and you truly are in heaven.

on the show ozzy was detoxing from booze so was on Librium and other noxious substances no doubt, even though the 'normal' detox is quite quick I reckon he liked the benzos so stayed on them

When in the mood I drive windows down with zeppelin, dub (thing king tubby or lee scratch perry), techno ....basically anything loud and im 52 and don't give a shit, Last summer while playing KT a rasta came up to the car and fist bumped me with a big grin

Ah that makes sense. Poor bastard.
He's looking far more composed nowadays.

As for King Tubby and Lee Perry - fuck yeah. That's the stuff.
Dub sounds so good cranked up real loud.

Most of the above. Plus I love a bit of Cream. Public Enemy and NWA - I've had some funny looks whilst blasting Straight Outta Compton.

I always have my van window open with good shit blasting out - even in winter because I can't stand being cooped up in a box. Currently got Death in Vegas (Dead Elvis) and Primal Scream (Evil Heat) on a loop.

However, the other morning I had the window down and some twat in an Audi cut me up so I shouted "You fuckin cunt!!" Then I looked round and there was a lollypop man with a stream of mums and kids behind him all staring at me. Oops :)

Gotta be the Beatles or Chili Peppers. Love Flea n Kiedis <3. I've read Scar Tissue it's an amazing auto----but I would NOT recommend it for anyone in recovery since he discusses his heroin use in detail during parts.

He also explains where some songs such as 'Under the Bridge' are written. Really recommend the book.

My favourite albums ate: bloodsugarsexmagik, by the way, californication n Greatest Hits (because it has 'Soul to Squeeze' on it)

<3
