Is this normal?

Ill be doing construction work and I will be nailing or something where I am on my knees, and then when I shoot up to stand about 70% of the time I will get light headed.

If you experience a moment of vision blackening this may be referred to as Initial Orthostatic Hypotension. I'm not a 100% certain what causes this, but a rapid drop in blood pressure after standing up immediately from a lying position is what triggers it.

is this something that i should get checked out or is this normal... its not if im sitting in a chair and stand up, its literally if im on my hands and knees and then get up.

EDIT: Also THis NEVER happens when I am getting out of bed or say getting out of a chair to stand up. Only when kneeling or sitting indian style on the floor and then jump up very quick.

It can't hurt to mention it to your doc next time you see them, but for the most part this is very common and nothing to worry about, it's just more of an annoyance than anything else.

Age ? Weight ? Height ?
It used to happen to me 3 years ago I think when I was in a long-term caloric deficit and malnourished.

Orthostatic hypotension is pretty common, in up to 20% of people, and considerably more in the elderly. Some drugs can cause it, as can a (severe) B12 deficiency. Some inherited medical conditions can also cause it. But in either case there's very little that can be done. Just be careful when standing up, and do it more slowly, and you should be fine. If it gets worse over time, then certainly contact your GP, but otherwise I wouldn't bother with a visit for this.

It could be from the contraction of the vascular system in the lower legs that the moment leads to a temporary drop in blood pressure due to the amount of blood that has to work against gravity.

Rule out B12, iron or folic acid deficiency. Those are major contributors to chronic blood pressure imbalances.

Also rule out low thyroid.

If you don't do much cardio in your life, that could affect it too... the heart gets lazy and less adaptive.

Insufficient daily food and water intake can do it too, along with electrolyte imbalance. Been sweating a lot lately? Drinking a lot of coffee? You might want to intake more salt and potassium.

Astragalus is a good herb for low blood pressure, but you can only take it a couple weeks at a time then you should stop.

There can be so many reasons for orthostatic hypertension.

It would happen to me too occasionally after a long session of surfing the web (read sitting), drinking and smoking weed. This was in my early 30's. Mid-thirties now. Still sit a lot but don't do the other things and it doesn't happen anymore. I'd literally have to crawl to my room to prevent myself from passing out and I'd be at the edge of blackness for close to 10 minute it'd seem. Not pleasant.

I did a quick search for some practical tips, this is what the doctors say 1) Sit with your head between your knees or lie down before standing up. 2) Drink plenty of fluids. 3) Stand up slowly.

So yeah, on a construction site 2) and 3) seem practical but lying down seems impractical. Perhaps you can try the head between the knees thing before standing up and see if it helps. GL

Yeah, orthostatic hypotension, for sure. I get it, usually when I'm relapsing in my eating disorder and not eating enough, or when it's hot and I'm dehydrated. I generally have low blood pressure, and it gets worse when I'm bad about eating and drinking. Try not to drink massive amounts of plain water--supplement it with sports drinks to keep your electrolytes in balance, and DO NOT forget to eat! Even if it's just a little here and there. I hope you feel better soon. <3
