EADD Film Recommendations v5 - TBC

Lone Survivor. Don´t wanna be a spoiler but I was quite impressed by the reality and how they´ve managed created that link not with themselves but with their opposites after all.
Although it seems like just one more war movie there is something interesting and different in this one IMO.

On a different direction I was amazed with how wild the filmed the Wolf of Wall Street. I believe this is one of those reality based movies they prefer not to mention.

-The Suicide Theory just watched this last night thought it was really good.
-The pilot (s01e01) of a series in production right now based on a book by PKD: The Man In The High Castle. While strictly not a movie this is going to be great!
-Short film funded by a kickstarter campaign by new and very promising Dutch director gone viral and to be made into a full feature film after Hollywood got into a bidding war titled: Sundays

I liked that, i just wish they'd hurry up and do the rest :) - i also hope they don't do the usual open-ended/never-ending thing american shows do - there's a particular narrative arc to the book which just can't work if it's open ended (it's the whole point of the book).

I always like me some magical realism-type films (think Tim Burton, Pan's labyrinth), tips anyone?
Songs of the sea see my last post.
Gannetsarewe - have you seen Big Hero 6 or Hotel Transylvania ? Both animated and great for kids.
I watched Justice League, Gods and Monsters the other day and enjoyed it but not really suitable for young children. Quite like the look of 'Inside Out' so will be watching that when I get a chance.

We have seen hotel Transylvania, good crack, but not Big Hero 6, I know it won the animation oscar, did I miss the first 5 that's what's worrying me. She is mad to see inside out.
The Tale of Princess Kaguya (recent Ghibli film) was also really beautiful, done in a watercolour style. Based on a Japanese myth so the plot is pleasingly mad too.
On the look for this as meant to similar to songs of the sea, is it available with English voice over?

Not sure if your joking or not :D but there is no Big Hero 1 - 5, its a really fun movie.

I've got American Sniper on just now - directed by Clint Eastwood, rated 7.4 on IMDB - and it's absolute fucking garbage.

I think Clint's gone senile. What the fucking fuck.

^Yeah liked the book better felix...but didn't know until after seeing the film that he was killed, which was another bummer after the movie not being up to par with his book.

What about:
Holy Motors
Beyond the Black Rainbow
The Zero Theorem
Angel-A
not sure this fits the category magical realism but I really like:
The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada

@virtual Yeah they need to get a move on.. ;)
I'm going to try the PKD novels again, didn't quite finish The Man In The High Castle and friend of me suggested to try them as audiobooks, so you can turn of the lights and let it flow, sounds good, we'll see...

Why would it be fucked up? You're in your twenties; nobody expects you to have seen every film ever made.

I haven't seen it either. Because I don't like westerns. And after switching off American Sniper half way through, I don't really like Clint Eastwood now either. My god, it was fucking atrocious. :!

Cos its iconic legendary isn't it, like not having seen the matrix or something.. or so i assume. dunno. Yeah ive heard that american sniper is bollocks. speaking of bollocks, that birdman film springs to mind as one of the biggest piles of wank ive attempted to watch recently. gave it 2 attempts. i do love long tracking shots tho

Looks nice are the series any good?
true about birdman imo interstellar is of the same ilk...

Septonn: probably seen it mentioned here multiple times, and not sure if it's magical realism exactly, but Upstream Color is a nice film (it's very much a marmite film though - makes perfect sense to me on mxe ;)). Frequencies (OXV the manual) is good too. Also The Science of Sleep is pretty weird - made by the person who made eternal sunshine of a spotless mind (another great film imo).

Shamanism: yeah it's worth finishing that book - audio books are cool cos you can get on with other stuff at the same time. If you can get VALIS on audio book, that's my favourite PKD book (one of the semi-autobiographical ones after he went a bit mad). Just for reading though, the collected short stories are excellent if you're not a massive reader (the second and third volumes are best).
