Hi, I was on Oxycontin 40 mg x 3 a day Oxycodone 10mg x 4 a day Soma 350 mg x 4 a day all for 9 years, I had had 3 back surgeries at that point and was told by many doctors I would be on this for the rest of my life. I found a new back surgeon that had a experimental procedure that was just passed by the FDA. I had it done and now am 100% pain free! I tried weening myself off the meds with no luck at all. I finally signed myself on my birthday into detox. I was on a 3 day sub taper and went through hell even with that for about 2 weeks. I have been clean now for +120 days. My question is about 2-3 nights a week I still get my legs dancing around when I try and go to sleep. My family doc tried RLS meds on me and it only made it worse. He then told me that this could be nerve damage from the meds that will not heal. Has anyone heard of this or have any experience with it? Other than that i'm doing awesome, I got to the gym 3 days a week and am active. I also take supplements HTP 5, Gabba, Multi vit. In a attempt to help get my chemistry back to as normal as I can. Thanks in advance for your input.

That reminds me of a condition I once had that stemmed from using too much ecstasy and then antipsychotic meds. My arms would shake uncontrollably for much of the day. It persisted for a few months at least, then it just faded away. This was a couple years ago, everything is fine now. Maybe time will heal your ailment too. I don't really buy what your doctor said about it not healing, damaged and altered nerves can get healed as proteins are added back onto them to let them reassume a more stout structure. That's what I learned from reading scientific articles on neurotoxicity of ecstasy, though that might be different from your situation. But if your nerves don't heal, at least you will probably grow accustomed to your condition and it won't bother you as much as time passes. Sorry if this didn't really help, I thought I would try to lend you my take on it.

It does and thank you for taking the time to share your story! I needed to hear just that. My Doctor is just a regular family doc he didn't even know about PAWS until I made him look it up lol. I have read a lot that the brain has a tremendous ability to heal its just slow to do so. im having good weeks and bad weeks at least its up from good days to bad days. Thanks again for your input! :D
