Do you think it's possible for the brain to trick the body into actual physical withdrawal even when there are sufficient opiates in the body to not be?

Many time I have woke and been feeling the first stages of WD like yawning and watery eyes, aching etc when there should be enough methadone in my system to keep me held, but then if I take opiates then it gets rid of my symptoms.

Could it be the mind telling you that you are WDing to the point to where it actually becomes physical.

100% yes... The mind is a tricky thing and it can mimic all sorts of feelings, its just your bodies way of tricking you into shoving more opiates into it, and why wouldn't it, the body loves them, they feel nice..

I believe so, yes and is no doubt a case of behavioural conditioning triggered by a slight drop in methadone levels overnight. The brain has become conditioned to associate this drop in level with onset of withdrawal, so starts the process of physical discomfort as an early warning sign that you need to top up asap. Although this phenomenon is largely psychosomatic in nature, it still feels like a bloody rattle to you. There was many a time that I forgot to take my methadone in the morning before work and felt absolutely fine - until I eventually remembered I hadn't had it when I almost immediately started feeling very uncomfortable, sweaty and on the verge of panic. You could take half your dose on the morning and half before bed - this should 'hold' you better.

The number of times I've been in absolute agony/withdrawal/feeling generally anxious and terrible and gone to collect a prescription from the chemist and felt better the moment the handed the bag to me before I'd even opened it let alone took a pill. The power of the mind is an amazing thing....(most people's minds anyway :))

i defo notice similar effects, often too upon first waking up, but i find it passes if u leave it without taking more opiates aswell.

Ditto'd. Same when scoring gear - I'd start feeling like shite while I was waiting for the Scouse crew to arrive. But as soon as I saw their car coming there was an immediate sense of relief and cessation of all symptoms.

During the great drought of 2010 when most gear was absolutely shite and often didn't actually contain any heroin, the amount of time I heard people say " Yeh, this gear's shit, but at least it stops the rattle". I reckon that was the placebo effect in full force..

Yeah but is in not possible that that particular lot of gear just contained a very low percentage of heroin (or similar opiate) that was just sufficient to stem WDs but not enough to provide full on opiate intoxication.

When you say it contained no heroin, how did you know that exactly.... Just out of interest?

My DSP told me that samples tested after having been seized were found to contain a mix of random inactive cuts and either barbs or benzos or both. Dunno how true it was though or to what extent, so I admit my use of the word 'often' was an exaggeration.. :)

it never did with me. screwed up plates coz I got sick of running shit. Oh yeah, the mind. Horrid being onyer own rattlin . Today has been one of those days. Poppy pods are great, I fucked off my script coz I got sick of the daily pick up. \it is a choice tho, I was all day nearly thinking where can I find a few quid . decided not to humiliate myself and got the poppy pods on the go. with a lil tewuila feeling mighty fine now.............UP THE VILLLAAAAAAAA

It's a funny thing the human body/even more so the brain. I wake up with real physical WDs even though I know I shouldn't be feelings them yet but they are oh so real.

As fubar mentioned as soon as you see heir car you feel thet much better...then when you're walking home the WDs area lot less noticeable!

How is the brain tricking the body into actual physical WD though?!

i agree the brain does sort of trick u. and second how much better u feel when uve scored evenn tho u havent taken anything yet. Its a very strange phenomenon really. But definitely happens. its just a very powerful drug that doesnt take long before it starts screwing with your head, and these sort of things happen. And happen quite often.

Agree with everything said. It's crazy if you forget your dose you don't feel withdrawal until you remember!!!

garage i was wondering r u prescribed your oxy? cus if u r your a lucky bastard especially if its through addiction services or a fucking doctor come to think fo it.

A close member of my family gets prescribed it and sorts me. I take about 250mg a day

That's what I first got a habit on. Probs the only reason I tried H because I knew it was so similar.

Not many people know about it over here though.

i thought it was too good to be true. An addict of any sort getting precribed any opiate other than the shitty maintenance drugs that are subs or meth.
