Sorry if there's already a thread like this but does anyone have any advice for reducing the symptoms? I believe I'm going through this now... Last night I couldn't hardly sleep at all and it was like my brain was going over every negative emotion there is and negative things that have happened in my life.

I think you said you have something like 5 days? You are not at PAWS yet, with alcohol the first twoish weeks are basically the "acute" stage.

Detoxing is hard, but learning how to live life clean is harder. Are you getting any outside support? Outpatient and or Meetings for example?

It can be a really good thing to keep your thoughts in the moment.. in today.

If we slip into the past then we can get hit with guilt, shame, resentment, anger, etc. If we jump into tomorrow we can get slammed with fear, anxiety, self doubt, hopelessness, etc.

So we can benefit greatly from keeping our thoughts simple and in the moment.

Here is the mindfulness thread.

In order to positively effect our lives without stressing ourselves the fuck out, as in early recovery all emotions are very strong including stress, we can just break everything we want to get done into easily done tasks. Then we just knock off those easily done tasks and and watch ourselves and our lives change in the way we desire. Many times in early recovery our lives are a mess and when we think about changing and fixing them it seems like a huge and utterly impossible task. But if we break everything down into a bunch or little tasks then we can keep our thoughts in the moment and just keep getting stuff on our list done. This way we can relax because we are doing what we need to do and do not need to worry about it.

Creating Positive Change vs. If Nothing Changes Then Nothing Changes..

Exercise is the best treatment for many people. It truly works wonders for many of us.

Many people do not realize that they control their thoughts.. so they just let their thoughts control them. Taking control of your thoughts is nothing short of life changing.

Our experience of life is created from our perception. Our perception is determined by our thoughts. We control our thoughts. So we decide what we experience. We have little or no control over what happens in our lives, but we have total control over how we chose to look at and think about what happens.

I don't know about you nutty, but i'm completely done making myself misserable. %)

it is a powerful thing to keep our thoughts positive and here are some threads many of us use to help us do this.

Ah, ok. I'm fairly new to the whole PAWS thing. I never even heard of it until being on this site.

Just the support of the few friends I have and family I guess, and this place of course. I'm not a fan of AA and I'm pretty socially phobic so meetings are pretty much out of the question. I'm not concerned tho because for a few reasons like realizing how I was wasting my life, doing shitty things that weren't really of my character, the pain I was causing friends and family and a health scare I decided for myself that drinking was no longer working. I'm pretty much a perfectionist when I decide to do something and am putting all of my effort into trying to live the right way and become healthy again through diet and working out.

Great advice, that's probably the biggest thing I'm dealing with now. The physical part for me now is easy, it's just the mental game that I think will take some time. I'll have to take a look at the rest of what you posted when my attention is a little better.
