Nice, that's good. :) It's amazing the afterglow you can get from good music playing, holy shit.

It sucks though, a week and a half ago I fell down my outside stairs in the snow and landed on my ring finger on my left hand. It hurt really bad, I was wondering if I sprained it or something, I worried I broke it right off the bat. It was finally not hurting much anymore, and then after we played tonight (fortunately after), I was excited and subconsciously cracking my finger knuckles, and I cracked the one that was hurt. It hurt REALLY bad and now it's all swollen up again, it feels like when it first happened except not quite as bad. I'm guessing I probably chipped the bone or something, it's really pretty gnarly. I feel stupid for cracking the knuckle. :\

Ouch dude, do you have insurance? You might want to get that checked out, lest it come back to haunt you later. I don't hesitate to see a physician if I think I'm injured. I tried to "Suck it up" when I was in the army and ended up making my injury so much worse that I ended up with a medical discharge. It still hurts sometimes and I'm sure it will only get worse with age. Don't take chances with your health man, better safe than sorry.

Yeah it do have insurance, it's the new year though so until I pay $400 out of pocket it won't pay for it. Anyway it feels pretty much like it did before I cracked the knuckle now, over the course of the day it got a lot better (whew). I'm just gonna ride it out, unless it doesn't get better.

Thats no good Xorkth, I hope your finger is okay <3

In Australia, if I hurt myself, I walk into an ER and get fixed. I sliced my hand open a few years ago, and needed plastic surgery on it to reconnect tendons/nerves/etc. I didn't have to pay a cent or do anything at all, I had the surgery and was discharged.

In other words, come and live in Australia next time you plan on hurting yourself :)

Plugged 30mg 2c-b and 40mg mxe. Talk about goin places.... Woooo man. Phens are so much more physically than trypts though. Do nit notice so much taking 2c-b outside and moving around, but inside being still...damn. The mxe really smooths it out, but still...

Really want some 2c-e and 2c-c again. Why am I cursed with a love of drug collecting??? :-)

Nice, happy Bluelight birthday samwise. :)

Yeah I wish our health care system didn't totally suck. It's not horrible for me, I'm one of the lucky ones, I have great insurance through my work (though I pay $250 a month for it, pre-tax) and I'm not broke. But I still feel our system is very wrong. Very few of my friends have health insurance, so if something major happens they could find themselves with a crippling amount of debt. It's disgusting really, I thought we were supposed to be a civilized nation. Love of money by those in power has corrupted this country so much. And I love the USA, I don't want to live anywhere else, I'm an American for sure and I love what we have been and what we could be, and a lot about what we are right now too. I'm just afraid of the level of corruption that has happened. Money/big business is who's in power now, and they do not have the regular person's best interest at heart whatsoever (or very few of them do), we're just cogs in their money machine to them. And the sickest part is that they have somehow managed to convince half the people in this country that things like universal health care, limits on the power of money in government, welfare and tax raises for the very wealthy are bad. It's so dumb because we're supposed to be a Christian nation, and those who argue the strongest against these thing are usually the religious types. But Jesus was way more radical than these thing would be. He said to take all wealth from the rich and give it to the poor so everyone could be provided for, that's welfare if I've ever heard of it. Since when did the human compassion for others get stamped out of Christianity? There are people struggling because they got laid off in the economic troubles and they live somewhere where they can't get another good job, and their families are starving, and "Christians" just sit there and heartlessly judge if this family takes welfare to help them survive.

Wow didn't expect to rant, not sure where that came from. :)

another bluelighter australian friend said to me the other day "the scary thing about having a job in the US is that you can get fired."

i was blown away.

Drove past a planned parenthood the other day. There were 3 or 4 people outside picketing with typical christianesque signs. My first thought was go make a sign that says "Do not get an abortion because these kind Christian folk will adopt and raise your baby" and go stand next to them.

Of course that is not the case...

I was raised as a southern Baptist, so I "get" it. I've also taken a lot of psychedelics since then, which have allowed me to understand why living one life, saying a magical prayer, and Jesus Christ taking me to magic for ever after heaven when this body stops functioning never made a fuck all big of sense to me. I just figure let it be at this point. We are all on the same path, even if most don't seem to realize it.

Here's a 1919 joint statement from Catholic bishops in America,. It's a short and interesting read, especially edifying to those whose conception of Catholic social thought is limited to the church's stances on abortion and same-sex marriage.

Excerpts:
The state should make comprehensive provision for insurance against illness, invalidity, unemployment and old age. So far as possible, the insurance fund should be raised by a levy on industry, as is now done in the case of accident compensation. The industry in which a man is employed should provide with all that is necessary to meet all the needs of his entire life.

34. It seems clear that the present industrial system is destined to last for a long time in its main outlines. That is to say, private ownership of capital is not likely to be supplanted by a collectivist organization of industry at a date sufficiently near to justify any present action based on the hypothesis of its arrival. This forecast we recognize as not only extremely probable, but as highly desirable; for, other objections apart, socialism would mean bureaucracy, political tyranny, the helplessness of the individual as a factor in the ordering of his own life, and in general social inefficiency and decadence.

35. Nevertheless, the present system stands in grievous need of considerable modifications and improvement. Its main defects are three: enormous inefficiency and waste in the production and distribution of commodities; insufficient incomes for the great majority of wage earners; and unnecessarily large incomes for a small minority of privileged capitalists. Inefficiency in production and distribution of goods would be in great measure abolished by the reforms that have been outlined in the foregoing pages. Production would be greatly increased by universal living wages, by adequate industrial education, and by harmonious relations between labor and capital on the basis of adequate participation by the former in all the industrial aspects of business management. The wastes of commodity distribution could be practically all eliminated by cooperative mercantile establishments, and cooperative selling and marketing associations

Wow, very interesting man, thanks for sharing. So I guess the current bastardization has only happened pretty recently. It seems clear to me it's a (successful) attempt by the right-wing extremists in the government to seize additional social control to support their agendas.

Note that I'm not saying all ring-wing people are extremists... there are extremists on both sides but the ones on the right worry me the most right now.

Re: America's rugged individualism and free-market orientation: It occurs to me that European nations predate capitalism, while our nation was born capitalist. Perhaps it is only natural that we would be unusually devoted to it (and I'm obliged to mention the role that the destruction caused by WWI & II played in encouraging European statism).

The overwhelming Christian conservatism in America is an odd thing. My spiritual system could best be described as Buddhism meets Aleister Crowley, so I don't identify particularly strongly with Christianity.

The whole "Christian" issue is one of the only things that bugs me about my new girlfriend. She was raised in a pretty conservative Christian family. Obviously, based on the incredibly rough and depraved sex we've been having, she's not exactly a good Christian girl. But some beliefs die hard. We had to have the "baby talk" the other day, where she basically stated that if she were to get pregnant she would definitely keep the baby.

That's a tad stressful for me. I really like and care about this girl. Truth be told, I can't think of many better individuals to procreate with. That being said, I really don't want a child at this point in my life. I don't know, it's just weird to think about. One slip up and I could be a father...

the funny thing is, at its core, christianity was originally very liberal. one of the main lessons jesus taught is "don't judge others." part of the reason christianity gained so much popularity was because judaism had SO MANY rules to live by. jesus kept it simple -- live and let live, treat others how you would want to be treated, and its all good.

modern christianity, of course, has seriously overcomplicated, obfuscated, and bastardized the original messages of christianity. anyone who uses their belief in christ as their justification for imposing their own beliefs on others has seriously got christ's message all wrong.

where jesus would stand on abortion i do not know exactly, but whatever his stance before the fact was, i'm sure he would forgive people after the fact either way.

Absolutely. It pisses me off when I hear Christians tell me I'm going to burn in hell for being a Buddhist. I'm a considerably more compassionate and honest person than the average Christian. I think Jesus would put a lot more value on that than whether or not I show up to church every Sunday.

there is a huge chunk of jesus' life (like ten to fifteen years, i forget exactly how long) that is unaccounted for in any written work. some theories guess that jesus went to southern asia and learned about buddhism during that time. i have no clue about the validity of that theory, but it is an interesting one.

I've read about that and there's actually a decent body of evidence to support it. Regardless, the core teachings of the Christ of the new testament and the teachings of Buddha overlap in many key areas.

the main difference is that chistianity is monotheistic and buddhism is nontheistic. that may be more due to a difference in terminology than a difference in epistemology, though.

Abortion wouldn't be an issue if we lived in a society that valued life over capitol.

My girlfriend and I would kill the fuck out of any child that forms in her womb in the next ten years, thank god she's on board with me on that. We see the life of children who aren't born into the right environment, and we know we would never want to force that life on anyone. Her sister was a dumb bitch and kept her child at 19, and now her family gets to fucking deal with his raising and explain to him in a few years why, "Mommy is an alcoholic and doesn't love you enough to provide for you." It's fucked up. How can people be against abortion and then get pissed when society needs welfare in order to provide for those poor kids forced into existence? I can tell you one thing, if my parents were degenerates and couldn't have provided for me, and I were forced into existence by the state and into a miserable life like so many kids are, I'd fucking wish I had been aborted.

Simply put, abortion will always be a need for society as long as society bases itself upon greed and selfishness and not the good of the human race and people everywhere. If society provided for those kids whose parents couldn't, then I'd see abortion as a sin; but right now, people are too caught with their head up their ass to realize that forcing a child into this fucked up capitalist society only means pain and sorrow for both society and that child.

Jesus would weep if he saw our "Christian" society. I weep. Dear God it's so wrong.

In other news, Burmese pythons and other snakes have been banned from pet ownership due to their being an invasive species in Florida; not in any other state, JUST FLORIDA. "Let's make it a crime to own a tropical pet in a winter climate, even though it could never make it in the wild, just because the Everglades are having a problem due to a hurricane setting them free! Yay, I'm a US senator, I make laws based upon logic, NOT! Instead of helping the economy and letting snake breeders make a living off their passion, let's put them out of work and criminalize their one passion in life! YAY! LOGIC!"

By the way, the "Humane" Society wanted to add Ball Pythons too, who could never make it in any states in the wild. My good friend would have now been a criminal for "trafficking" his pet python to his family's place in OK. Don't worry guys, lets not be concerned about the millions of stray cats fucking up shit in cities across the nation, it's those damn pythons who fuck things up, you know, all ZERO of them in the wild!

That was my girlfriend vicariously preaching through me about snakes lol. She loves reptiles. But the government and fools everywhere are trying to ruin her hobby. Hell, they want to ban ALL "exotics" which would include her cute little harmless lazy African Fat Tailed Gecko. That fool couldn't survive for shit on his own, and people want to ban him. "Yay, dogs and cats are the only pets people should have! Let's let them run amok in our cities and say fuck-all to people who own docile problem-less reptiles!"

Damn, I ranted hard...
