I'm new to this site and this is my first post. I've been trying to get clean. Suboxone, Subutex, cold turkey with OTC medicines..I've tried it all. I thought Suboxone was going to be my lifesaver. I asked for advice from a friend who recently went to rehab. She told me that she was also doing two buns a day, and they gave her 8mg the first day then dosed her down from there. So I took half a strip in the morning and was planning on taking the other half at night for my 8mg for the first day...but I was still sick as a dog. Running to the bathroom, sneezing, hot and cold sweats, watery eyes, the whole works. I decided to take another 2mg about 3 hours after taking the 4mg. I still didn't feel any better, so I ended up giving up and going right back to heroin.
I want to quit. I NEED to quit. I've gotten myself to the point where I'm ready to quit mentally, but I can't do it physically if this is how it's going to be. I don't handle being sick well, especially when I have to go to class all day and then work at night. I was hoping Suboxone would be the wonder drug like it seemed to be for my friend. So I was wondering if anyone could possibly help me out. I thought maybe I didn't take enough Suboxone for how much heroin I've been doing. 4mg in the morning and 4 at night is NOT enough to keep me not sick. Is this how detox is for everyone? Do I just need to suck it up and deal with the withdraw symptoms? Or am I just not taking enough Suboxone?
I would greatly, greatly appreciate it if someone could help me. I don't know what I'm doing as far as Suboxone dosage goes and I don't know what to expect with detoxing on Suboxone. I was hoping for little to no symptoms, but that wasn't the case. Does detoxing on Suboxone always include withdraw symptoms? Or am I not taking a high enough dose?

Wait til your in full on withdrawls as long as possible 36 hours if you can last.

Doctors start patients to high. Honestly id start at 2 idk if thatll hold you but id go no higher then 6mg

Wait for captain heroin to chime in

I disagree, the average does is 16-24 mg, someone with a heavy habit like you should take at least 8mgs.. This is from an expierenced suboxne patient for the last 3 years or so.

Can you show me statistics or links of average dose of suboxone that patients are on please. I would love to see some if its true.

Because out of the 11 people i know on suboxone their average starting/ maintenace dose has been 4-6/8 is about 4mg in which they all started around that and they weren't even coming off a 2 bun habit, more like 1 bun or 90-120 oxycodone a day.

Why not start small and work your way up if needed, instead if screwing yourself by staring at an amount that is unnecessary?

Im really not disagreeing with you and i back your 8 mg proposal to the OP, honeztly it sounds a little better then my 4mg proposal, but even giving the OP the idea to start at 16-24 is rediculous when you can start small and work upwards seeing how everybody is different

I think it depends on the doctor. 80% of the people that are in my sub group are on somewhere between 8-24mg. I think it's kind of a high dose, but those higher doses are needed at least in the beginning, which is different than a maintenance level. The people at my sub group are on 8-24mg for maintenance though, but like I said I think it's high. I don't know about the overall average. There's a number of states that have very few suboxone doctors. It's not a medication that is fully understood by many of the people who prescribe it.

Starting small and working your way up can be very discouraging for someone who has a heavy habit. Even more so if you're used to shooting up and feeling instantly better. Waiting for sub to kick in and not even knowing if it will work is a really crappy feeling, especially since any sub you take will have at least a partial blocking of full agonist opiates. It just makes the decision to go on sub that much harder. I've been on sub several times with my longest period being 14 months of daily use. For the majority of that time I was taking 2mg a day and was fine. I started on 8-10mg a day and that's what was needed then. When I was using a lot and was shooting it, the first few days would require 16-20mg just to feel somewhat ok. Much better than cold turkey, but I can honestly say that at that point starting at 2mg would have been way too low and the time it took to wait for it to kick in, only to need more, would begin to discourage me from continuing to take sub. It would seem like unnecessary agony.

I also completely disagree on waiting for 36 hours. That's way too long to wait if you have a heavy habit. With a heavy habit, especially with something like heroin, 36 hours is a really, really long time. I'd be in full blown WD in 18-20 hours, with symptoms typically starting around 10-12 hours after my last use. I only made it to somewhere between 24-27 hours a couple of times and I definitely wouldn't want to wait until 36 hours. I would have used before I reached that point. Also I would probably have gotten extremely dehydrated by that point, which would make dissolving something under your tongue much harder. I'd have to hope that I didn't throw it up either, which would be more of a possibility the further I went into WD.
