(I'm new so sorry if this is in the wrong section).

Me and my friend were talking about different celebrities that are drug addicts and which ones we find the most interesting, funny or relatable or whatever. Do you have a celebrity drug user you find you relate to, in terms of your addiction stories or anything similar?

I guess I can really relate to Layne Staley. I love to put my emotions into music as he did, and he often wrote about how he deeply wanted to throw away his use and "swim to shore," to start over. But he always slipped back due to fear of not finding happiness. I can REALLY relate to that.

I cant relate to any of them...I do remember when Phillip Seymour Hoffman died though, I remember reading later how he went and withdrew like $12K from the bank, walking around money for him I guess! LOL I think they said he had like 70 bags at his apt, Im assuming they were 1g bags, but they didnt say, so thats ALOT of fucking dope.

With the rest of us non-celebs, usually drugs cause problems due the money it takes to feed a daily habit, people eventually resort to stealing and doing other illegal shit to afford more dope, so its a matter of being able to afford the dope, NOT the dope itself, I mean, besides the cost, I was able to go to work every day (as long as I had shit), but it didnt effect my job or other duties I had, actually it probably made me a better employee, working harder, longer, due to no aches or pains, being in a good mood.

With Celebrities, they can afford to use and have a large daily habit if they like, so it doesnt cause those kinds of problems like it does with the rest of us 'poor people'

Ive always thought dope is negative really ONLY because of its illegal status and the cost, if it were legal and cheap, would it ruin peoples lives like it does now...I doubt it.

Just my opinion though.

Not all of them are super rich. Phillip Seymour Hoffman has been acting for a long time and has an Oscar win, so he was probably earning a lot, but there's plenty of celebrities who ended up being broke because of their drug habits.

They also have a lot more to lose if they're caught using/buying drugs. There's been a number of famous people who have lost millions in endorsement deals because they were caught using. Michael Phelps immediately comes to mind and that was just marijuana. It can be a career killer for some people or at least hurt their chances for future work as well as their public image.

I can relate to Robert Downey Jr. Not the successful one we know today, but the fuckup one that was constantly in trouble and had to pay for his own insurance because he was deemed uninsurable when he went back to acting. I'm hoping I can 180 these fucked up years as well as he did. Though he already had a few films and an Oscar nom before he was doing real bad.

Lil Wayne once said

Lotta syrup, Lotta pills, n a lotta weed
I am a monster every day is Halloween

The first line sums up age 21 for me very well.

Probably won't die a drug addict and hasn't been one for a long time, but Trent Reznor.

Charlie Sheen

I admire that crazy man . Not sure the extent of his drug use these days, but you kinda know when he rants.

Courtney Love was my hero back in the day. To be such a hot mess, she was still a survivor, and I adored her.

Back in the day, friends and I watched the movie 'Sid and Nancy, Love kills', story of Sid Vicious of the sex pistols. Sid was played by Gary Oldman.

Sid was a HUGE junkie! He got to the point of not caring about the band, and only about getting more dope...we can all relate to that. lol

Yes, I remember. I read the book though. Never saw the movie. The history is super intense and he´s lost it totally..
An older version of heroin addiction was the book named "Christiane F." it´s an incredible and horrific history about a girl who was deeply hooked on heroin at the age of 13. Now she´s about 50 years old and has no life, although in her first book, there was a temporarily happy end.

In real life though she continued using and now she launched a 2nd book telling how she totally destroyed her life due to a lifetime addiction of heroin plus everything else you could imagine. It´s sad but once you start reading, you don´t stop. I think most of us can relate to that as well.

Charlie Sheen ftw, don't know why, but I would love to go out for a drink or two with that guy...or maybe lester bangs, if he counts...what a great writer he was.

Agreed. His pain really resonated with me.

Kurt Cobain....his dislike of people and working, VERY SMART also, quiet. Now I can relate to Courtney also, but she can be annoying at times... alot of her erratic behaviour in the early 90s was from eating shitloads of that benzo Rophanyl(didn't spell it right but 'roofies") remember reading an interview that she loved em, which makes since thats what she was taking if you look at her behaviour, it did seem very benzoed out, and the heroin also I guese. I think she gets alot of hate but I acutally like her and find her smart and funny..But anyway I relate to kurt, know he wasn't gay but always found it funny in high school he told everyone he was gay so they would leave him alone, lol.

Definitely layne staley his music describes my life perfectly "wake up slow suicides no way to go " "i can feel the wheel but i can't steer when my thoughts become my biggest fear"

Jerry Garcia. His progression from exuberant musical mastermind to reclusive opiate addiction is something I can really relate to. Also Bradley Nowell to an extent.
