I see it as more like, we're hardware and software. Only, the software only exists as long as the hardware on which it's stored is working properly. Once the brain stops getting fresh oxygenated blood, the program it was executing is lost for good.

Now, if you could take a snapshot of the state of a human brain, it should be possible to download it into an emulator. You could then test out various what-if scenarios, by giving different stimuli. And if anything happened to your original body, "you" would still be technically "alive" as long as at least one copy of "you" was still running under emulation somewhere -- you would only be dead when the last copy of you was wiped out. By the time we've advanced that far, we might well also have the ability to do direct molecular manipulation -- meaning it should be possible to build a body from scratch to match the brain's internal model, then flash a copy of your software into its brain, and you could then walk and talk again .....

They are fun to contemplate, not present as truths.

Fascinating stuff...I've kinda pondered the same or a similar ( not as detailed) hypothesis myself. But you suggest a Descart duality of Mind and Body make a person... Which is true I suppose if we turn from God and Spirit. I think of myself as Mind Body and Spirit because I choose to know Him ( well He chose to know me and redeem me first technically.)

From what I know of cloning. Wouldn't it take, theoretically, a long time to clone a human? Wouldn't that individual regain consciousness in a world that had changed/ family/friends gone ( unless they were with the programme which is bound to involve dough)??

I was in the middle of reading n my usual listening to Ela Henderson---n next thing hundreds n HUNDREDTHS of Bluelight E-mails quickly start buzzing away. Afraid at the last min, Admins have decided aye-up lets perma-ban her, I wuickly tried checking ony to realise 'twas on bloody E-mail notification, coming out like darts they were hahahaha.
Funny, I thought, as usually when temp banned it doesn't release it until 15/20 mins later lol.
Maybe Ali took pity n all my crying n unlocked the bars early.
