[MEGA]Community Growing advice, tips, tricks, & experiences Part 5 (2012-2013)

Have you guys seen the duck's foot strain by Dutch Passion called Frisian Duck? It's a bit of a gimmick but from a short distance the leaves really don't look like cannabis at all.

I'm not sure I would grow it in a guerilla grow but I'm sure there are plenty of people using window sills etc. this strain would appeal to.

Hey Australia! Look Here!

^ It looks like there might be a 4th species of Cannabis that would be even better than that!

Perlite owns.

As an update my plants are starting to flower (aka it's getting exciting). And have culled a male (happened to be one of my biggest - luckily not my biggest.

Got enough healthy females tho. and some too young still to confirm.

I'm blitzing the following atm seagrow (best fish emulsion product I've used)/molasses foliar feeding with spray and mist and then watering with with a tablespoon + per litre of fish emulsion and 1x tablespoon of sulphur free molasses per litre.

Looking for tips for blooming nuts, affordable ones that will be at most nurseries and garden shops pls.

That 4th strain of cannabis thing was a hoax, High Times printed a retraction of their article. Funnily enough, when I read the initial article I thought this must be that Australian duckfeet weed I have read a couple of articles on in the past, kind of ironic the post before yours is AE asking about a strain with that in it's lineage.

The Frisian Duck looks pretty interesting, I can definitely see the appeal in such a strain for many people. I can't help wonder if it really stacks up in potency and flavour though, I haven't ran anything from Dutch Passion but there are a good many companies who's products I would buy before theirs.

Whosajiggawaaa I have found that males of the same strain do tend to grow larger than their female counterparts, it is always a bit disappointing to have to scrap your biggest couple plants but after a few grows you pretty much come to expect it...

Comfrey

The most important nutrient for flowering is potassium (K) as you know, although others, including a relatively smaller amount of nitrogen are needed. If you're doing a grow that is as natural and organic as possible, especially if outdoors, comfrey (Bocking 14 variety used for gardening) is one of the best organic sources of K. You can make a concentrated comfrey extract by getting a bucket, maybe with a tap at the bottom, and stuffing it full of comfrey leaves and weighing it down with a brick or something heavy. It will rot down becoming smelly and a liquid will form and collect at the bottom which you bottle up to be diluted and watered in during the flowering period in increasing doses as the grow progresses. You can spray the underside of leaves with a very weak solution as a foliar feed. This is organic and supplies a whole host of nutrients, trace minerals, enzymes and other phytochemicals that conducive to plant growth. You can make or buy comfrey pellets that you mix into the soil or use as a top dressing which expand on contact with water and gradually release nutrients into the soil over time. The are sold online and can be shipped right to your front door.

Rock potash

The other source of K is naturally occurring rock potash, not to be confused with the chemical fertilizer called sulphate of potash. I'm a big fan of this as well.

All in one concentrated liquid organic feed

Although it might seem a bit obvious if you're growing organically (or as close to organic as possible) then I would suggest getting a complete organic nutrient meant for cannabis that has all the other macro/micro-nutrients in there along with potassium etc. With this type of nutrient you know at least that your plants are getting the ideal ratio of nutrients for cannabis. If you are growing outdoors in the soil rather than in containers I would wholeheartedly recommend the comfrey if you want to give your plants an extra kick and I also find it gives bud a better flavour. Why this is I'm not entirely sure but it works and is convenient once the stuff is made up so I like using the stuff.

Yeah Dutch Passion trashed their reputation but you have to give credit where it's due, in the last recent year or two they've really tried to turn the business round by getting rid of shady business practices and improving customer services. As for their strains, they definitely have some decent strains now even if some are not so good.

Their Orange Bud is one that appeals to me (here's a pic from another grower, not me). To find the best pheno you have to grow a whole pack out but those lovely orange phenos are not that hard to find:

Their blueberry also interests me as well as a few others.

Fair enough Drug Mentor, it's your money after all ;) Horses for courses.

I am interested in two of their CBD strains though for myself. One is CBD Kush and the other is a Nepalese strain crossed with an unnamed sativa, giving about 14.7% THC and 8.5% CBD, although since it's not a clone there will be some deviation from these numbers of course.

I suffer from neuropathic pain which is why I'm on a quest to find a good medical strain that is functional so I can use it throughout the day without feeling and looking altered.

I just read that now. They released the updated article about an hour after I had posted mine. I thought it was funny that I couldn't get an Australian source, so I'm glad you were able to help!

Thanks for all the tips. Will look for those.

Here are my plants today:

Only ladies left (culled another male today) + 1 unconfirmed - they aren't all the same age hence why the sizes vary. I added a small cup of bonemeel per pot in addition to the existing perlite then gave them a good watering (as you can see in pic) it was a very hot day today.

I see the potassium content of bonemeel is fairly high but found a blooming fert comprised mainly of nitrogen and potassium amongst others, gonna buy it in the next few days. It's for orchids tho, don't see why that matters tho. Called orchidbloom or something.

I would strongly advise against using orchid bloom fertiliser. If you are only able to buy from a garden centre your best option would be to buy tomato fertiliser. It is much more likely to have a better NPK ratio for cannabis.

Tomato fertiliser is one of the only fertilisers gardeners use for other plants species just as much as tomatoes themselves. It's a sort of general purpose feed gardeners use when they need a high K fertiliser for flowering plants. It won't be as good as a canna fert but it's still pretty good.

Cool thanks man wasn't 100 % about the Orchid one. Will ask for tomato fert at the garden centre instead. It's some what of budget conscious grow more so we don't really have much access to specialised cannabis nutes.

The only shop that might is a fair drive from me and is way overpriced.

Pretty sure this a product of Aussie bastard cannabis. Check out Wally Duck and the wizards of oz. great stealth. Fuck knows how they bred it but the mutation seems to have been stabilised. Read some old articles about it yesterday. Will link up the article if I remember to find it again.

The leaves look like stinging nettles to me. Pretty cool gimmick. I like it.

Wally Duck? Yeah that rings a bell, I remember reading about that years ago so his genetics have obviously been floating around for years so it was only a matter of time before one of the major breeding companies acquired a cut and incorporated it into a breeding program.

Whosajiggawaaa those plants are looking much better now. Just curious, would you consider topping them next grow or do you prefer single cola style growing?
