Russell Brand: End the Drugs War, BBC 3 at 9pm

I wasn't aware of his abstinence stance. But he's someone who's gone through the wringer and came out the other side, so if that works for him, fair enough. He should not be mistaken for an authority on every subject.

I happen to love the fucking weirdo, and have read his books, and enjoy every second I see him on the telly. (After a couple of years discounting him as a media whore simpleton, which I think he was for a while).

Comparing him to politicians, and that fucking bellend Farage brother on Question Time who said he should stand for parliament if he wanted his voice heard, IS COMPLETELY MISSING THE FUCKING POINT.

More power to him and those like him.

Repeat of a post on another forum -

Just got round to watching this. I have severe reservations about RB, but I thought it was a really good programme. His take isn't exactly mine in that the programme didn't spell out that each and every drug requires a different approach and there also needs to be a different approach to recreational and addictive use of any drug (neither of which should make a criminal of the user). I think people have an actual right to non-problematically take other drugs as an alternative to alcohol, and that should be one of the things underpinning drugs policy.

I also think Nick Clegg did very well in this. I helped them into their wee bit of power and subsequently felt guilty about it, but now actually feel if they were the sole govt that could be one of the best things for the UK.

I saw him once at half time at a Sunderland away game at Upton Park......well my mate said it was him....I thought it was Jesus.

don't worry, he thought the same thing. (about himself, not you)

hypocrite with crazed eyes. He's following an agenda. "profit is a filthy word" so ell us 'ow much you are worth then Russell? are you receiving a workers wage and donating the rest to a fighting fund?

I would give any man, woman or child twice the budget for the "war on drugs" if they allowed me to beat Russell Brand to death with a rusty spoon. Can't stand the fool.

I'd highly recommend everyone here watch a few later episodes The Trews (Russell Brands youtube thing) episodes (There are about 220 of them now)..

Basically him talking about current event and politics in a way the mainstream media never will.

I didn't really like him before but <3 him now.

I'm not a huge admirer of Russell Brand,i like some of his comments but at other times i get annoyed at his use of pointless flowery language that doesn't seem to actually say much. Anyway i watched his live stand up show 'The Messiah Complex' yesterday on Youtube and surprisingly i found it to be bloody funny and it was good to see him taking the piss out of himself also. Rated his stand-up show but still can't call myself a fan of his but at least he is out there trying to do something and wake people up to what is going on around themselves and the world

Agreed Rickolasnice, The Trews are sometimes very interesting indeed to watch.

I agree too - whatever you think about russel, the trews is some of the best news-related visual media we can get in britain right now (people are snobbish about americans, but where's our version of Democracy Now!, the Young Turks or even Jon Stewart or John Oliver (i mean he's ours anyway (i remember him off the now show)) - what's the best we've got - News Quiz, Have i got news for you and Mock the week? Pathetic really

Trews episodes are brilliant, been keeping up to date with them for awhile

Yep. Last Week Tonight with John Oliver was probably my favourite bit of TV viewing this year. Unmissable stuff, and very funny. The fact that it became so popular in the US (and actually made a huge difference in people's awareness of many issues) must surely prove that there's a demand for something similar here too, even more so???

I heard him described the other day as a stupid person's idea of what a clever person should sound like :)

I think he's a funny comedian but overbearingly pretentious at times.

I've watched loads of the Trews. I find them more amusing than informative. After all Fox News (his usual targets) set them selves up to be shot down...especially that Bill O'Rilley cunt

His spats with Fox News are very funny. Fox news is quite unbelieveably bad as a supposed news channel

Yeah that bill o'rilley is an utter bellend, Fox appears to be an absolute joke of a news channel

Personally never found Russell brand pretentious, & love his wide range of vocabulary

Do you not think though that sometimes he's just using "big words" for the sake of it and probably doesn't even know himslef what he's saying.

No-one in their right mind would seriously say...

"This attitude of churlish indifference seems like nerdish deference contrasted with the belligerent antipathy of the indigenous farm folk, who regard the hippie-dippie interlopers, the denizens of the shimmering tit temples, as one fey step away from transvestites"

I mean come on......what the fuck does that mean??? hahah!! :)

EDIT - just found another classic:-

"The internal mayhem I'm feeling is spilling out everywhere. I loved it, and felt very connected to activism – particularly activism that feels loaded with potential. Not the oppositional activism that seems like there's a stasis around it - earnestly sincere, but a monolith equal to the establishment"

I'm sorry I know some of you guys like him but for fuck sake!!....speak plain English!! :) :) :)

I've read that too. But I suspect such comments are only made by people with an agenda, or who are insecure about their own vocabulary.

The Bill O'Reilly show purports to be on the side of "regular Americans", but it and others like it only serve to dumb down 50% of the population and have done more harm to the US than the Taliban ever could. No subtlety, nuance, or middle ground. Everything is either black or white. Fucking shameful shit that only makes people stupider.

Watch this segment of Last Week Tonight, in case you haven't seen it. It shines a huge light on the dishonest and unrepresentative tactics used by O'Reilly et al, and the rest of the US mainstream media. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjuGCJJUGsg

Watching him (Bill O'Reilly) he's such a cunt that you think "is this a wind up?"

Is this actually an ironic, sardonic comedy?

Then yu think "Oh no....it's the news read by an American so far to the right that he's about to fall off the end of the world!"

Polarising debate results in higher viewing figures, and more money for him. I think it really is that simple.
