Hey guys this is my first post so I apologize if it's in the complete wrong forum or whatever but I need some advice about xan. Ive messed around with it for about a year (very infrequently) but around 2 months ago I went through a pretty rough breakup and started taking 3mlgs every night for a few weeks to be able to fall asleep and I build up tolerances pretty quick and started taking 6mlgs a night for a week or two and then 8-10mlgs the past week to get the same effect as the 3mlgs. (there have been several nights throughout this time where I haven't taken any but id say at least 6 out of 7).

I couldn't get a hold of any for 4 days and definitely felt the withdrawal, it was pretty miserable but tolerable and went away immediately after taking 4mlg. I am 100% mentally prepared and willing to get off of this drug but I'm just wondering what to expect due to the physical dependance.

Basically what I'm saying is im freaking out a little and am not sure how serious this is or how to safely stop taking it, I have 40mlg to work with if tapering off is recommended but I know thats a long process and would require more. I could be completely overreacting or under reacting but from what I understand 10mlg at a time is a pretty heavy dose and I just want to know what to expect and how to quit without dying or anything. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks guys.

Hey turndownforthis and welcome to BL:)

Here is some strong information on benzos. it includes suggested ways of tapering.

BENZODIAZEPINES: HOW THEY WORK AND HOW TO WITHDRAW (aka The Ashton Manual)

EDIT: 10mgpd of xanax is quite a high dose. I would recommend seeing a physician and procuring the medication needed and withdrawing properly. Benzo withdrawal at this level are not to be trifled with.

I think the majority of people here will tell you to slow taper, to avoid any physical issues (seizures and such) and also prevent you from losing your mind, the doctors would agree.

I've been scripted 100x Klonopin & xanax monthly for the past 5 years, and my strategy is to get high on other drugs (or be sober) and save up about 3 months worth of pills (300 pills) and then go ham for a month straight. I've definitely had my bouts with addiction, especially when I was taking it as prescribed, which is funny to me.

If I could give you my side of the story, from my own experience, I would go for the fast taper, deal with the widthdrawls (making sure to still take enough of a dose to prevent seizures etc) and A) youll come out of it clean and sober and B)youll be much more mentally strong. But thats just what has worked best for me. Keep in mind if you do a fast detox, make sure to take enough to prevent negative physical side effects that could be life threatening.

My two cents.
P.S.: I know it says this is my second post on bluelight..... I had another account which I no longer use, with over 1500+ posts. I created this one to get away from some of the people my old account was associated with.

that's solid advice from neversickanymore. I also recommend going to consult a physician. They will probably put you on a slow valium taper. Unfortunately there is no quick way off a habit that large. BTW your not over reacting benzo withdrawal from that dose could be a life and death matter. Not trying to scare you just impress upon you the seriousness of the situation you are in. If you run out and cant procure more before you consult a doctor than you need to go to the ER and tell them what you told us.
keep us updated and welcome to bluelight!
