Flying Dreams

^^Yes, there is nothing quite like them. Apparently they are rare for folks. Many I have spoken with say they've never had one; well, not that they remember anyway. Ah, if only we could fly every night.

yes, awesome.

and interesting with the beams of energy you cast from your hands Xorkoth.

thank you kindly for sharing

strapped down with my cat, a pack sack and bungie cords to hold everything together, I float above city streets doing my best to avoid the wires laced throughout. The work to stay afloat is hard but doable. seems the ground wants me with it but I am stubborn and prefer the open air. My cat holds on tight and the dream goes on all night.

I generally seem to glide in my flight dreams.
I can use my wings although they are my hands.
I always start from somewhere high.
Its like, uh oh, im really high and im falling,
guess I better fly.
They"re fun, but scary at first.
I cant rember ever having a flying dream where I decided to "take off" from the ground/runway.
When I get close to tbe ground, I just ride the wind back up again.

Probably has something to do with fear of falling from high place. Heigts dont bother me,
its action of falling that gets me.
If you notice alot of dreams seem to stem from fear, even if they end up cool.
I have memories of dreams I dreamed as a small child that are more vivid than some of my
"real" memories.

Has anyone ever had a dream where you cant see.
I mean you cant open your eyes and you try as hard as you can? Dam, I hate those dreams.
Hard driving or fighting someone with your eyes closed.
WHEN I finally get my eyes to open, I do it in real life. I guess my sub consious kicks in.

I don't recall ever flying blind but sounds daunting. Flying dreams vary from running off cliffs or down mountain sides to leap and take flight Or, working really hard to take off from ground, hands/wings thing. Always avoiding wires though, so many wires even through mountain passes, massive cables.

Yeah ubi, I get sthing like what you describe with the wires. I spent a year, last year, in the desert, mostly off the grid, and not a wire 20 miles from me. The flying dreams were hours of flying and exploring uninhabited wilderness -- forest, desert, mountain, gorges, coastline, etc. It was always pleasant and had the feeling of freedom that flying gives. I was able to keep track of time bc I wasn't in a deep sleep, but had the sense of bi-location on many nights.

Now that I'm back in a populous city, the flying dreams aren't so good. If my dream starts from here, I've got to stay focused or the dream goes wrong. The grid of wires has the effect of creating an electromagnetic field that traps my point of view, as though I'm a moving charged particle moving through a complicated network of interacting magnetic fields generated by the city's electrical infrastructure. Flying over the city-scape, I go through the electromagnetic vortexes that extend 100s of meters above the ground where they are generated, and times when I'm caught, I'm caught in a downward spiral, drawn into what is happening on the ground, and earth bound.

I used to have very vivid flying dreams. Once I got the art down how to take off from the ground I would fly every night. I have not had those in years!

One time I had a dream where gravity stopped working for me, only me. There were people walking around my house and I was floating up against the ceiling asking if they knew what happened to gravity

Curious as to how many of us get to fly and control our flight when we dream. Do you fly at night (in your dreams) or is it daytime hours. Over mountains or through City scapes. Do you have to work at it hard or do you get to soar?

Personally, I have to run, commit and launch but then I'm up. I also find allot of telephone wires and other wires in the lower levels I must watch out for because when I do hit them, I get shocked and I actually feel this shock. Weird. Usually fly when it's dark out too.

Anyone else?

op,
I've heard theories that this ties back to ape evolution of living in trees. same with falling dreams.

^
made me chuckle
Sounds like the other side of a special K-hole.
I litteraly couldnt pick my face up off the floor
once.
If you never experienced a similar event, imagine being on a Gravitron at the fair and trying to run as soon as you get off.
Best proof of gravity you'll ever need.

I would imagine the opposite would be pretty cool.

I guess most of us have this dream or state of mind.
It feels like you can see yourself when you are above and flying but once I felt I was dying as I had been high the entire week.

Yes, I wonder if there are some that don't fly. I do know some folks don't dream. Or at least they say they don't. I bet they just can't remember their dreams… perhaps?

^^
I think we all dream, but the really good ones go on in REM sleep
At least thats what my doc told me.
Im a deep sleeper, and I clock into REM sleep quick, and seem to stay in it too.
My Dads same way. He was way worse when I was growing up because he wouldnt get on a set sleep schedule cause his work.
His doc told him he could clinically diagnose him with narcolepsy.

Typically, falling asleep is no problem for me.
Turn the lights out, and Im out.

I dream pretty much every night and all night. May sound cool if you're a "non dreamer"
but honestly I enjoy a a night without dreams.
I guess the grass is always greener on other side....

I also believe that everyone dreams as it´s part of our brain functions, a compensation for realizations not done as psychologists often say.
But I have also hear that the Rapid Eye Movement is what is counts for a good night (or day) of sleep and that´s when you dream in color.

Yes, I don't always like my dreams.. but I am grateful to remember them as they can point to what I'm not dealing with on a subconscious level… similar to what Erik points out.
I love how Jung spoke about dreams (can't say much for freud), and the collective unconscious on an archetypal level. I can't fall asleep but when I do I sleep pretty hard in REM. My deepest dreams seem to be in the early morning.

As I understand it the typical person begins in non REM sleep and switch to REM and repeat cycle every 90 minutes or so. Each time Non Rem getting shorter, and Rem getting longer. Probably why most recall dreams right before they wake.
You "dream" in both stages, but Non REM tends to be more mundane. REM is usually more "eventful".

So when your free and clear of cables in the realm of reality we walk through, when you fly from those locations, nothing but blue skies; yeah, that is really very cool and uh, some more food for thought for me. Ya, a charged particle needs space to move freely

When your in the Cities, interesting how you try to fly up and away from them. Maybe mountains, desert and forest need you out there.

When I'm in the cities (flying) I do allot of launching from skyscraper to scraper. some scaling. Always trying to get to those high places with a tree on the balcony or some posh abode to rest in awhile for free. Allot of launching. ha.
Next time I'll go higher and sense for that vortex.
I prefer the woods, mountains myself but seldom do I experience even a mountain range these days without those massive cables at least somewhere. Hey, thanks for sharing, very cool.

Interesting the deepest come in the early a.m for you. I find afternoon naps very vivid and busy. I use to think it was because outside was so busy with the hustle and bustle of folks doing things around me but these dreams were so vivid even out in the woods. Seldom fly in the day though but when I have, it is something else.
When you say the 'collective unconscious on an archetypal level', care to elaborate? please? I have an idea what you mean and I could look it up but we are here now.

When I fly, I feel so responsible for all that is below me, woods, grassy plains, lakes and when I do hit the Cities or towns and float above their streets, people look up at me and I feel responsible for them too. It is an odd feeling for I know I am just me and usually I am dressed in rags or have no body at all, least, not one I see. Use to wonder if I was just a weirdo like that but after reading 'smoky's words, wonder if my waking hours concerns spill into the dream world and my job is the same.
anyway, really enjoying reading what others share about their own experiences. all of them

I get these about once a month, usually when I become lucid. Sometimes I will return to the land that I was born on and check out the scenery from above.

^ Interesting. When flying I used to return to a place in youth often…

Ubi,
Archetypes are collectively inherited in life, shape human behavior to an extent I would say, and are reflected somewhat in symbols noticed in waking states or more often as unconscious ideas, images that come to us in dreams, sometimes repeatedly.. if there is need to resolve. They are universally present in every individual… inborn.
Jung passed in the late 50's or 60's (?), he describes them as innate, or primordial… very deep elements within us, of ourselves…
A scientist might see archetypes as more innate patterns of behavior… or as a more modern concept, not so jungian.

Anyways, you mention, -- that you are flying above people, and feel responsible for them.
This means a lot and has archetypal meaning we all share… This is innate I would say, but also points to happenings in our lifetime. I don't feel it's one or the other. Do you feel you must save any of them? It's such a compelling dream I am just curious.
Also, people have jobs that fit their typology sometimes… What do you do for work? Is it a helping type role of any sort? Would anyone you work with represent these people you feel responsible for?

This is a common simplistic example of some archetypes, more societal examples, visual types
www.soulcraft.co/essays/the_12_common_archetypes.html

But they have deeper rooted meaning. The above is very simplistic.
