What's Good on European and African TV v. Walking the Dead

It truly is. It's really in a league of its own....educational, entertaining, funny, believable, Human. There are no good people or bad people just different people in different circumstances. The game is what it is, ye feel me.

A major positive of The Wire is that the programme doesn't use music to manipulate our emotions e.g. there's no emotional music playing when someone dies or w/e. You need to use your own judgement. I could praise The Wire forever. My major problem was trying to adapt to watching other tv programs once I'd completed the set. Everything just seemed meh in comparison.

I tried getting into it many times.. never kept me interested long enough.. I'm sure I'll get back to it someday and love it..

Dexter on the other hand <3

The Wonder of Animals on BBC iPlayer is worth a watch..

I loved both Dexter and The Wire. I've not watched The Wire for about 10 years or longer, so could easily re-watch the whole thing again now. If the DEA had those kind of snooping abilities back in the 90s i dread to think what they are capable of now. No matter how clever the 'drug kingpins' were the DEA were always playing catch up, and were never far behind, forcing the gangsters to keep changing and updating their MOs.

The Wire boxsets are probably pretty cheap by now on ebay or Amazon etc. I liked the slow pace of The Wire, the way it slowly built up an incredibly detailed picture from many different angles of what was going on. Only certain episodes were 'slow' they were just setting the scene for future episodes wher everything kicked off and were very action packed imo.ime.

It's one of those series that probably needs a second viewing as there was so much detail going on, that it probably easily needs and merits a second viewing, as on first viewing a lot of time was spent on character development sometimes leaving the viewer wondering wtf was going on. :\

Its had such a widespread impact that ive heard kids in this area mutter "5-0" whenever they see a police car, im sure they have absolutely no idea where the phrase originated from, as they are far too young to have seen The Wire. Unless im underestimating the kids of today but i think a series like The Wire might be lost on some of them. :\

Dexter is wicked.. until season 6

Been watching Sons of anarchy for the first time in years.. half way through season 4 at the mo

Its strange how the thread is titled "whats good on European TV" yet most posts are commetning on American series. I guess the UK just cannot compete with the quality of some of the greatest american series over the last 10-15 years, i found it surprising how many of the charcters in these series were actually Britsih and not American though. Like Dominic West and Idris Elba in The Wire i was amazed to discover that they were Britsish actors as they were so convincing in The Wire. And then ofcourse we have Adrew Lincoln as Rick and David Morrisey as The Governor in The Walking Dead.

As for uk stuff being no good - i liked 'The Intruders' the other night on bbc2. Had a suspicion that it might be the same as a book of the same name by Michael Marshall (as in Michael Marshall-Smith) and it was, and pretty close to the book. Starring john sim with a slightly dodgy american accent, but even so i got into it (i want to like any michael marshall stuff though). Supernatural-ish thriller-y type of thing, with a creepy transmogrified child. Epsiode 3 tonight (rest's still on iplayer)

i didnt mean that the british stuff is no good, far from of it, some of it has been excellent, like, er, The Missing, and Peaky Blinders, to name just two from the last year or so... It looks like they blown their budget on Peaky Blinders as it looks so stylized, cinematic and well produced. Well worth it though. Great series.

They are onto series 2 now, gutted that i missed the first 3 episodes, and fucking i player is falling short of its original promise in that it was neant to have the complete series available to view but that doesn not seem to be the case, at least not on my Virgin Box. Maybe it'll be a different case on the computerised i-player. Hope so.

I suspect that if you are anything like a 'typical EADDer' then that statement is dripping with sarcsam. TV cant get much trashier imo, aiming for the lowest common demoniator, w.e that means in that specific context :? i know some people like that kind of thing, and like to watch a bunch of vain over preened mornonic poseuers go "glamping". I cant say its for me though. \:

Worth tryin again Rick

Love nature programs mysel so will have to check The Wonder....at some stage. Am currently recording Life Story and
Blue Planet for future watching

It's not the traditional David A style which i found refreshing.. more of a focus on the abilities of each animal using the latest research..

Yeah 6 was poor.. 7 was good.. the last season is shite and it's worth turning it off before the very last scene.

Sons of Anarchy.. my girlfriend recommended that to me.. I take it it's worth a look?

Homeland series 3 boxset arrived today, Damien Lewis is on the cover, i thought people had said that he wasnt in the 3rd series :?

You probably saw people talking about the 4th series which is on TV at the moment. Channel 4, Sunday 9pm. Or are you talking about SoA in the other post?

narh, Homeland season 3. Season 4 hasnt even registered with me yet. I dont mind playing catch up, infcat i prefer having the complete boxsets so that you can go on mad over indulgent multi epiosde sessions. Having to wait a week for the next epiosde doesnt work for me atall. All the atmoshphere, tension and momentum gets lost, and i prefer my gratification to be a lot more instant. :D

I remember when i first got the Dexter boxset, i found it so good/addictive nad compulsive viweing that i stayed up all night to watch the whole of the fisrt series in one go iirc.
