Hi:

I found this site by accident. But I think it might be right for me. I live in New England and am a journalist. I became an accidental addict to both Norco and Oxycodone after two knee surgeries. Both the pain management doctor and the surgeon told me they would not taper me off these drugs "because I was no longer their patient." I asked for a bottle of pills so I could do it on my own. I took a wild guess and dropped 5 mg per week until they were gone. I had no s/x except for severe sweating. But my real problem is benzos. My ignorant doctor gave me a high dose of Klonopin and didn't bother to tell me it was addictive. I was clueless. I was on it for 10 years. Luckily, I found a very benzo wise pdoc and we are tapering off it at a snail's pace. I lost my job, my husband and my home because of these horrible drugs. Plus I could not drive for 7 years. I had to move back from the Midwest to NE. This has been the most horrific experience of my life. I haven't slept for more than 2-3 hours per night for more than a year. Plus, many other terrible s/x. I wish I could say what I think of the doctor that put me on these pills, but I suspect it's against policy to do so. Stevie Nicks was so right about Klonopin, when she stated that she went into the depths of hell getting off the drug. It is a true nightmare and I am still not done with my tapering, although I went from 10 mg of K down to 1.25 mg. I would like to find the chart that says what is the hardest drug you have come off, but don't know where to find it. I would like to add my two cents. Anyway, I'm happy to be here and hope I can learn more about the nasty drugs out there so I can avoid them. I am also a member of benzobuddies.org and they saved me from insanity, so far at least. But who know what will happen to be with post taper withdrawal effects? I even hate to think of that.

Welcome Benzogirl I had to quote in order to reply. I personally have dealt with benzo and opiate dependence my self. I was able to quit on my own fairly easily but I realize how lucky I was. Some of my closest friends struggled to and ultimately paid with there life's. Honestly I personally wouldn't worry to much about withdrawal effects if you are tapering. I'm you will most likely deal with irritability and insomnia but you will get your life back. Try to look at the bigger picture IMO.

OK. But I've kindled twice so that's what worries me. Plus I had a pre diagnosis for severe anxiety and that's how I got here in the first place. I'm so happy that you were able to get off your drugs with little problem. You have to bear with me as I don't know yet how to navigate this site. Do you know where I can add my opinion on the withdrawal chart? Thanks for your response. It means a lot to me. Yes, I think you were lucky, just as I was lucky with the opiates. BTW, I am already an angry person and have a bad case of insomnia. At least I got my emotions back. So that's something anyway. xoxoxo Benzogirl.:\

Hey, I've also just joined and am also a member of BB. I've been tapering for over a year now from
The benzos and am on 28mg of suboxone for oxy and other opiates so have some things in common. I came close to losing everything due to drugs (husband, 5 kids, business) and I'm sorry that happened to you x.

Benzos are freaking hell to get off. I did a rapid last year or the year before, it's all a blur now and it was the worst experience of my life.

I'm really sick this morning so won't type more atm but see you around x

Welcome , glad you decided to join us. By the grace of God getting off benzos (xanax) wasn't as bad for me. I thought opiates were the worst to kick. But since I joined B/L 3 weeks ago I've read some horror stories from quite a few people kicking benzos. I have a new found respect by proxy for benzos. I think as far as "what's the hardest drug to come off of". I believe that's personalized to each individual. For me opiates but I wholly believe for others it's benzos and for still another it may be something else. My mantra has become taper and hang in there. That applies to many including myself. Let us know how you're doing.
