Ok so I just wanted some info on prescription pain killers being the cause of headaches or even migraines.
For the experienced users and well informed: Why is this so common?
: Who here deals with this issue?
What prescription pain med are you taking and what dose ?
What OTC med do you use to help alleviate the migraine ?
For instance pain killers like Vicodin and Percocet you most likely don't want to use Tylenol in addition for your head so I would imagine an NSAID ? Aspirin , ibprophen, aleve, ??? Thoughts??

i get headaches from tramadol but never percocet or hydrocodone. i'm assuming this has to do with their APAP contents, and tramadol is just a weird fucking drug. i use BC powders, which is basically just NSAIDS in powder form to thin my blood, and then sit in a hot shower with the water running over my head to open the capillaries. works like a charm.

Doesn't thin blood lead to expansion which creates pressure thus causing a headache ? I am confused and would love to resolve this side affect .

thin blood will allow the blood to flow more smoothly through the capillaries. basically anything you can do to improve your blood circulation is going to help, this is just what works for me. give it a try, BC powder also has caffeine in it which helps with headaches. but of course too much caffeine will cause a headache so be careful with that, for instance don't down the BC with a 2 liter of mt. dew or anything lol.

You may want to try some form of NSAID in combination with caffeine.Like a lot of stimulants, caffeine is a vasodialator and since a lot of headaches are caused by a constriction of the blood vessels in your brain the caffeine may help in combination with aspirin or ibuprophen.Personally,I've always found naproxen (Aleve) to be useless even for a headache but it may work well for you.I would try whatever you choose in combination with some caffeine.I've always gotten the best headache relief from BC or Goodys powders which,as someone else mentioned,is powdered aspirin with a little bit of caffeine.Sine it's already powder form they kick in faster and work great IME.

see, i'm not the only one lol

^ I hear ya. .... i totally had this opposite, I thought caffeine constricted vessels and opiates swole vessels and swollen vessels caused headaches. ...see this is why I love BLUELIGHT, I learn a ton from a lot of knowledgeable peeps!

Opiates can also cause rebound headaches and many doctors will only prescribe them as a last resort, provided you don't act like a drug seeker!

I don't have a lot of trouble with headaches. I think it may have to do with me being on warfarin, a blood thinner. I also take 800mgs of ibuprofen twice a day, along with two 20oz cups of coffee a day. Must give me a natural "immunity" to headaches. ;-)

depends

when you get nausea, constricted pupils, constipation, etc... it's easy to get a headache

if you get euphoria it's easy to get rid of a headache.

If I had the world's worst migraine or something, I'd prefer a xanax and just get 8-10 hrs of sleep.

caffeine is by far the most susceptible drug to rebound headaches, unfortunately it's a catch-22 in that too much caffeine will also cause a headache. the reason medicines like BC powder and the like include caffeine in their formulations is because caffeine aids the effectiveness of the actual pain reliever in whatever medicine you are taking.
