Blond Hair - White or Golden?

I apologise in advance if this thread is similar to my last. But, again, I'm just curious about people's tastes, and this time it's about something I can actually exert control over, even if it's not an issue of world-size proportions or staggering philosophical depth.

The time has just come for me to dye my naturally dark blond hair. I've had it like this for a while now, and it's healthier for it, but there's nothing quite like having really blond hair. And it's also what I was born with, so I just identify with it and don't quite feel like myself without it. Maybe stupid, I know, but that's how it is. At least I don't come with the dumbness that can go along with it (although a pointless concept in a part of the world where most are blond).

It's just there are so many, or practically endless, blond hair shades for you to choose from. I don't want it too light or too dark, too white or too golden or brassy, but something in between. And I especially don't want it gray, or Ash-blonde like it's called, as I find this to be a rather dreary blond hair-shade (if you're going to be blond).

Now, I was born with completely white hair, and it stayed like this for 10 years or so before I gradually started to darken. So I guess you could say I'm a natural "Platinum" blond, but I have a more warm or golden/yellow and rosy skin tone with gray-green eyes, so I suit warmer shades more, and also prefer a more golden tone myself.

I know many just think "blond is blond", and just let the hair-dresser dye it how they want, but I'm quite colour-sensitive (and benzo withdrawal - talk about the colour/light sensitivity that comes with that) and the subtle differences in shade and brightness makes a difference to me.

To mention some examples I find real Platinum blond, like Marilyn Monroe had, too harsh for most to pull off (although it suited her with her snow-white skin and cool blue eyes). I also find the golden blond shades Brigitte Bardot had mostly a bit too much on the yellow/orange side, although she was a natural Brunette with brown eyes so the warm palette suited her more.

Britt Ekland also went through most blond hair-shades, and she was one of the few who suited both, so I think I'll use her as an example.

Like here, this is a colour I would normally find too harsh and white/light, but it looks wonderful with her deep blue eyes and beautiful soft features (what wouldn't?). Although her skin-tone is a bit more on the golden side so these shades also suited her:

I really like this shade and am leaning more towards something like this, my skin tone is also pretty much like that, just a bit more yellow. Or what do you think? Here she also strikes a good balance:

See, I don't like it too bright.

Any comments/opinions/examples are welcome, but try to keep in mind it's just a silly thread about blond hair colours and nothing that needs to be taken too seriously, and also, if it's not too much to ask, try to keep it reasonably civil. If you find the subject pointless and mind-numbingly boring you're also very free to stay out.

Thanks, and have a good day.

How come some just can't resist plain old trolling?
I think that after the last thread, he's frustrated because he was waiting for you to post nude pics of yourself.

Back to the subject -- I don't like obvious Bottle Blondes (there are attractive ways of doing it and your pics above are good examples) or the 2-tone style of hair dye. I don't know what it's really called, but it's where some locks are blond and some locks are dark. It's very popular in the suburbs and screams Frumpy.

If you have a golden or rosy skin tone, you could pull off the platinum nicely. I'm real pale skinned and once I went too blonde, and needed extra makeup because the hair made my face look sort of washed out. Also consider the lighter you go, the more frequently you will have to touch-up the roots.

The thing about blond hair is that 99% of those born with blond hair become considerably darker over time, so that most you see with real blond hair have to have it dyed, and it will invariably end up considerably darker than any hair on the rest of their body. The idea of the adult blonde is mostly a myth, apart from a few exceptions who are born to be light blond for life. Like my sister's boyfriend who belongs to the demographic with the most natural blondes in the world, and even there it's rare for LIGHT blond hair to carry over into adulthood.

So, being realistic, I don't see how it being many shades lighter than other bodyhair would be a turn-off. It's just reality and the price you have to pay for having light blond hair when it shouldn't be. People who weren't born with blond hair, or didn't grow up around people who were, don't always seem to realise this. Eyelashes/eyebrows also looks better in a darker shade on blondes as it makes them more defined and frame the eyes better (as long as they're not too dark - dark blond - brown is okay, black not as much).

Expressions like "A fake blonde" are redundant as there are almost no other blondes in existence and that's something you just have to deal with. But there will always be people who find blond hair beautiful, and people who like having blond hair, and as long as it stays like that it will always be that way.

You could be right about that, actually. I tend to think that warm/cool tones should go together, but Ekland pulls of the platinum look so well because her warmer skin tone balances out the coolness of her hair and eyes. Come to think of it, MM also had more of a creamy, or warm, skin tone. But I do think platinum is only for cold (blue, gray, or blue-green) eyes, even if I wasn't born that way. It just harmonises better, and I have proper green eyes, leaning more towards yellow.

Hair and skin virtually the same colour - looks good - but if you have pasty skin it might not be a good look.

By the way, Marilyn Monroe reportedly had a 90 minute make-up routine and did her own make-up. She apparantly alternated many layers of vaseline and powder to make her own foundation (her skin was flawless - and she also had daily enemas to achieve it). Makes you wonder what make-up can achieve.

Blond hair FAIL

She looked like a perfect Eastern European beauty (i.e. "grey") before and really suited that dark blond hair. Some do, for some reason. While others, like Marilyn Monroe, Britt Ekland or Brigitte Bardot, are made by light blond hair.

Grey-blond hair, grey-blue eyes, and greyish skin can make for a stunning look for someone with real beauty, the Vanessa Paradis look (in plain women it just makes them more plain). But that overly white hair with her cold white skin makes her look like a ghost and totally ruined her unique beauty.

You just don't enjoy looking at her anymore. Weird how much difference hair colour can make. That's why I'm choosing mine carefully (and going for a warmer blond as I have a Spring palette, or ivory skin, green eyes, though my hair was originally a cool white but that's more for children).

Nothing unreal about that ghastly blond colour - completely washing out the woman.

(If she was beautiful she would have pulled it off better)

Challenges, challenges...

That photo above is a character from a book/TV show. I think the character is supposed to look washed out. In real life, I think she keeps her hair brown and does look much better with her normal hair. Also, she looks better on TV than in photos.

I was born with blonde also, still blonde but have gone black and dark brown, to white even in the past. I guess today I'm lazy and do nuthin much with it. :\
Platnum can be pretty harsh, but I guess it's what one likes on him/herself. I'm sure you are beautiful with the color you have. It is fun to alter hair color though…

I have platinum blond locks.
Granted, I'm not a woman.

But it works for me.
