I thinking of getting this from my dr. here in Canada and I know now in the us the fda has approved use by paitents. anyone here got it? tried it in an OD?

nobody has this stuff for OD? I would like to get it, the wife has to take a 15 min course from nurse here before they give it to you.

I would change your title to "what is your experience with Narcan" or "Who has used Naloxone for an OD" or something similar because your title is kind of confusing.

What exactly do you want to know? What opiate/opioid would you be using it for? Yes, naloxone (name brand Narcan) can reverse an OD and has saved lives. Just try and be more specific ;)

i only thought ambulances and er's had the stuff on hand. had no clue it was approved for patients to take home.

my 1st thought when i read your post was, well i wonder how many addicts are going to take their next shot right to the edge knowing theres a safety net located in the med cabinet

Just becoming available in the UK. So far all the research has been positive, it appears to save lives without causing any particularly untoward unintentional consequences. I cannot believe that it has taken us so long to get to this point, how many people have died across the world because politicians wouldn't give them the antidote, doesn't that sound a lot like a crime to you? it does to me.

I see where your coming from but I don't think this will be the case I mean how many addicts already do this without a safety net?

Also being injected with narcan is not something a heroin addict wants to go through it is very uncomfortable you go from being high as hell nodding out to being in full on horrid withdrawals in seconds(precipitated withdrawal). Doesn't sound fun to me and every person I've seen injected with it has gone through a terrible time. But they lived.

when i od'd the ambulance medics hit me with narcan to bring me back. it worked and it totally killed any opiate high i had but i also had a 1/5th of bourbon in me. i guess thats why i didnt find the experience to be very bad.

Ha yea that would definitely help sedate you a bit for the process good ol bourbon. In a hospital setting if they do this to you in ideal settings they will sedate you then send you into precipitated withdrawal while in a coma like state. But But his is only if they have the time to do so and the patient is even healthy enough to be sedated.

thanks MOM. I thought the question spoke for itself. anyway I was wounding if or how many knew that you could now get this stuff in Canada and the us now. its about 50-50 to people I talk to in real life.

good question, I bet some will, I know here you have to take some 15 course to get it from a nurse or dr. I think the general thinking in the medical community is that its better that people have it on hand than wait for emergery services and some people wont call emergey services when there is an OD.

The dude is politely trying to help you get more replies and your response is to be an asshole. Classy.

Ahhh did I hurt your sensibility’s? I’m not looking for apopularity contest with most responses it was a question that spoke for itsself .

Exactly. Narcan saves lives and in no way encourages addiction. But it's commonly misunderstood and I always tell people they should research the subject and educate themselves on what Narcan is and how it works.

I'm FB friends with a lot of people in recovery and just last week my friend posted an article about Narcan being legal in Rhode island and CVS carrying it and his family posted all this shit on his wall... how they won't be vacationing in RI, how they're not going to spend any money at CVS now, and some shit about how addicts SHOULD die from OD and that my friend is living a sinful lifestyle (he's sober, they were referring to his homosexuality).

Ugh. That's obviously an extreme case, but it's been my experience that a lot of young people overdose (AKA people that still have their lives ahead of them and death would keep them from getting sober). And of course there's the assumption that all drug addicts are shady homeless junkies and I think they assume Narcan would only be used for them... like their lives aren't worth saving /rant

I'm not a dude, haha. But thank you :)

There's no need to get upset. Your post was vague and confusingly worded, I had to reread it a couple times. Because you bumped your post asking for responses, I made some suggestions to help you get more replies.

I try to keep a shot of narcan nearby whenever I use. Here where I am (midwest US) I can get it for free from the county public health office.
I started this after OD'ing (heroin). Luckily I haven't had to use it.
But I do recommend seeing if any local services can hook you up with it.

naloxone finally is available here in germany and i carry it with me. we have a pilot project running here in frankfurt. they give it out without a needle but a nasalsyringe. i think this is a very good solution (compared to i.v.).

That's pretty cool man I wonder how long the nasal spray takes to start taking effect? Thats a lot easier than trying to find a proper spot to inject the narcan quickly.

once again thanks mom, half the people on here did not know what it was, that was the problem not my question as you can see, if you did not know the drug by its generic name then oh well. I sure there is a post somewhere else on here that needs help from you hurry go help....

a nurse who is trying to get me to get this stuff said the nasal spray takes a matter of seconds.

Oh is that right that is very cool I've heard nasal naloxone works good in terms of bioavailability but i had still never heard from someone who had seen it for themselves in a nasal spray.
