Bloodshed in Gaza: "It's a hell of a pinpoint operation"

If this were the paedo thread, we'd have 20-plus posts in an afternoon. Shameful. Perspective? What's that? :\

local news always out does international news. As Gaza burns & Malaysian airliners are shot down, the British media was leading every hour with the fact that we're now so fat that the NHS is going to start giving free stomach stapling operations. This news was apparently of more importance than both the international stories of the day in which hundreds of people had been killed in deliberate actions.

It's not a lack of perspective, it's cencorship. If a person can't see something, if they don't know anything about something, they can't comment on it.

Gaza / Ukraine has been at the forefront of every news-based website I've come across. Perhaps I'm reading the wrong papers, but even if that's the case, it's no secret to anybody with half a brain and access to any media whatsoever...

If a person can't see what's happening in Gaza and Ukraine, it's because they don't give a shit, or they choose to ignore it.

also, stomach stapling & fat folks is nice easy news to digest. This depth of the story with Gaza, the war in Ukraine with Russian backed seperatists & this business with the airliner are probably all a little bit too complicated for the average Sun/Mail reader.

obviously the coverage of these two stories has intensified recently as they've both become too huge to ignore. Initially, any local news was being used to push the Gaza story deeper into the news, & as soon as the plane went down it pushed Gaza almost completely out of the news. There was an enormous Israeli push yesterday & overnight & the loss of a bunch of their own soldiers in the process, & God knows how many Palestinian civilians, but still this garners much less newstime than the loss of Westerners on the plane. No-one really gives much of a fuck about civilians of Gaza, seeing them as being an unfortunate fodder between an admittedly militant Hamas & a doubtless trigger happy Israeli force.

I rarely read papers, nor online sources for news generally, & tend to channel surf the news channels when this sort of thing is going on, so perhaps we're getting two different perspectives because we're focused on differing media reports.

hopefully the israelis will plough bulldoze on with the operation. we're having far too much fun playing hamas exponential guessing game. closest to the terrorist organisation's daily report of palestinian casualties wins - all helpfully recited for you verbatim courtesy of our beloved bbc, who clearly have themselves their own bureau of statistics operating efficiently within palestine, as obviously - they wouldnt be reporting casualty figures without independent confirmation each time, particularly from a group of neanderthal misogynist nutjobs with ak47's and the old testaments' retarded younger brother as its moral compass, cos that would be against its very core, sacrosanct ideals of non-bias n all that jazz. gaze in wonderment at the apparent preference for a superbly accurate statistic bureau over and above hospitals, medicine, basic hygiene for its populace, shake your communal heads at the apparent proclivity for unarmed women and children to get themselves in the line of fire by the hundreds each day, bamboozle thyself over the bizarre paucity of armed combatants within the casualty figures (human shields again, clearly). try it, hours of fun guaranteed. dont bet too low now!

The two-state solution is dead. Palestinians & Isrealis should share the Holy Land.

I don't blame Hamas for firing rockets at Israel or trying to infiltrate the country to harm it's citizens. They have good cause imo. Neither do I blame Israel for attempting to defend itself or even attack it's enemy, even if I do think they are being a little heavy fucking handed. I do accept that life in Israel would be much better without Hamas in control of Gaza, & I am certain that life in Gaza would be much better for Gazans if Israel would lift the blockade & allow the only genuine Palestinian run enclave on earth an opportunity to grow economically, estabilsh a proper goverment, Police Force, club-scene etc etc. It's little more than an extended Ghetto, with walls all round the bits not protected by the Mediteranean. I don't spose there are many buldings in Gaza without a human shield, the place is incredibly densely populated.

It's all very well wishing that Hamas would spend more money on hospitals & other vital infrastructure rather than spending what little they have on generally useless rockets. I wish we'd stop building aircraft carriers whilst pensioners die of the cold in winter & young people sleep on our streets.

World just ain't perfect at all, is it. Hamas will continue to fight Israeli occupation & Israel will continue to occupy the West Bank. I see no end in sight. I see no right or wrong. It's ALL wrong.

Something I suspect is impossible, otherwise they'd have done it by now, but if Israel even came close to something like that, it would draw every bordering Arab country, every Jihadist, into a war to destroy Israel.

The yanks will never stop the support of Israel. Hamas & other millitants will continue to resist at the expense of their own people, & Israel will regularly use it's millitary might to trim Hamas back down to a controllable level, which is basically what they're doing now.

What I truly fear is that the Wests support of Israel & our recent & past history of interference in the affairs of the Middle East & the Arab world will eventually draw us into a global conflict between us & them. Although this is a war we seem likely to win at this stage, there's nothing to stop some nutter getting into some major western city with a suitcase nuke or some deadly chemical & exact their vengence on us all. The more civilians I see suffering & dying the more I fear we're in line for some of the same...

"Mowing the lawn" I believe they call it :|

Aye, I also fear that could easily happen.

When the oil starts running out in the Middle East, is when it's all going to become interesting. All the Western money is going to dry up along with it. Maybe Mainland Europe will have pushed hard enough for renewables to have broken their dependence on oil altogether, and will be OK; the UK will be led by the USA and will be taken by surprise, as though they didn't know it was going to happen.

This is all just a matter of time .....

while the region is so unstable, I think we can be relatively certain that there is still a huge amount of oil to fight over. I'm not sure we've hit Peak Oil yet but I watch closely for signs of a coming economic apocolypse, something that suddenly running out of oil could bring almost overnight.

Aye.. clearly unarmed, walking around with people in high-vis vests :\ (although there's a chance the sniper didn't see the vest.. it's still blatantly obvious he's civilian)
