I'm from UK and I have never in my life time came across anyone that says pip pip. wtf does that even mean?

heard people say cheerio but thats either on tv or in really posh areas. I used to hate Clarkson but I don't mind him now. those pompous twats you see on top gear are not your typical working class englishman and most of us don't like the royal family.

but UK is such a diverse country for its size and different areas have different views on things. we don't all think like londoners ya know

Never seen what the fuss is with clarkson, hes just a tosser most of the time

I only use tosser and that is usually in reference to red coat. Coltdan thanks for the origins of pip pip cheerio I knew you guys used it.
 
Fair enough - that's your views. Though i don't think an honest appraisal of your history is far left (or even left) - Would you rather not know about the genocides etc.? Do you believe the gentle advanced Iroquois people deserved to be crushed? Do you agree with the slavery? (my country's history too).

And it's not hating your country, unless by your country you mean the elite and not the actual population. Do you feel less in common with the oppressed people than with the opressing elite who write the usual history (in their own favour).
 
I think that may be a bit paranoid - i'd have thought that to truly love your country, you should look it's nasty origins (same as all countries') straight in the eye, rather than using the excuse that other people want your country to feel weak to not address it. Also, the constitution and the political structure of the USA is very much current, and often brought up by conservatives, so knowing some of the truth of its origins could be instructive (eg in issue like gun control).

i'm interested in the history of the people of any country, not just america. I have alliegance with the common people of all countries and against the elite of any country (i don't just pick on the american elite :)). And anyway, having hassle from the provinces goes with having an empire (whether covert or not)
 
@Droppersneck: Cool - i know not much about your history, but Howard Zinn helped me there. He was no tosser though imo - he was biased like all historians, but his bias was clearly stated: for the people (supposedly the important ones in american politics). You'll be hard pressed to find inaccuracies in his work.

I personally don't like patriotism or nationalism because i recognise the part they played in the worst actions of states in history. It allows the elite to mobilise the population for its own nefarious ends far too easily (eg ww1/2, mcarthy, vietnam, iraq etc). I can feel patriotic to the people of my country, but i see less difference between these people and the people in any country than between the people and the elite of my or any other country. I'm patriotic for the world you might say (no, not a 'globalist' (don't be fooled, they're full on capitalists).

The american revolution should have stuck with Tom Paine i say ;)

@ScotchMist: Depends what it was a war for, but america spends about the same on its military as the rest of the world combined, so that might swing it (they'll pull out all the S4s, nazi ufos, space-based maser platforms, and haarp if it came to it ;))

Yeah agreed. Well actually, wars are for the bottom line ("war is a racket": Smedley Butler); and for shock doctrine ('just had a war? we can build you new buildings, just take this IMF loan!').

I meant is it territorial invasion, cos even with all the tech and hardware, americans might have trouble doing china and/or russia (they've got plenty of bodies). If it's just nukes from a space bunker until someone runs out, US.

(this is actually a serious question at the moment: america recently changed it's military doctrine to include the possibility of 'First Strike' nuclear attack :sus:)
