What's Good on European and African TV v. Walking the Dead

Just up to episode 4 of True Detective.

Easily the best TV Show I have seen this year. (bearing in mind I don't watch Game of Thrones until it comes out on Blu-Ray.) It really has all the production values of a film... seeing that more & more often these days.

I was quite surprised it was out on box set so soon... it only finished airing 3 months ago. I wish some of the other big shows would come to DVD/Blu-Ray that quickly. Will have taken Sons of Anarachy, 9 months from the last episode of Season 6 until its release. Apparently it won't be on Netflix until 2015. 8)

^^ It was almost an anti-climax the last episode... the series as a whole was kind of more the point than the actual ending, if that makes any sense. Bit sad that Season 2 will not be featuring either Matthew McConaughey or Woody Harrelson.

...

Take 2.

I just found out the Season 4 of Game of Thrones is available on Amazon Instant Video in HD for £23.99... not bad.

Didn't realise they had TV series you could buy without subscribing. Awesome... thought I'd have to wait until it was released on Blu-Ray. 8(

Considering the box set will probably cost around £35 when it comes out (which isn't until Q1 2015) ... I don't see how £24 to get it now is a bad deal.

You guys have unreasonable expectations.

Dexter is amazingly good so far, really enjoyed a marathon session yesterday, it was far better than i expected, the plotline development in series one is fantastic. All the supporting characters in the police dept are great too. Very impressed so far.

Btw did anyone else think that the car scrapyard used in Dexter for hiding the people trafficking enterprise looked exactly the same as the one used in those very memorable scenes in Breaking Bad? (Maybe the BB scarpyard was more sandy and desertlike, but the Dexter one was grounded on concrete, but they could have just laid sand on top of the concrete for the set :?)

I guess many scrapyards look very simillar, but certain shots of that one looked virtually identical (from memory), particularly the long rows of cars stacked 3 on top of each other.

Not at all, ive been buying box sets and dvds for years, recently i've downloaded a few. go and spend £24 when you can get it for free

Glad you like it. far better than you expected? its got a 9/10 rating, did you expect it to be a bit shite? granted it does get shite after season 5, but still

i try to go into things with lower expectations now, as i went into BB, Sopranos and GoT with sky high expectations. BB and Sopranos did deliver, but not so sure about GoT, though thats maybe more to do with me than the series itself.

Same as me - I've genuinely tried and just can't get on with it - any level of that Dungeon and Dragons shit is too much for me.

I understand what you mean... I too have also bought DVD box sets for years & I have also download some illegally too... same with music.

Thing is, I've matured now & realise that there is more to downloading things illegally than just 'will I get away with it'... I think it's bad practice (especially with regards to films/tv series). I know all the piracy adverts are a bit clichéd but it does amount to stealing. It's morally wrong & you aren't supporting the people who acted in & made it.

I'm totally for sharing music with friends (CDs in the past.... now taken further with YouTube, Spotify) or the likes of BBC iPlayer/4OD for TV/Film but just not illegal downloading. (unless it's something you literally can't acquire otherwise)

Yeah its bad practise for obvious reasons, i agree, if i had lots of money i'd buy everything instead of downloading some things. but i havent - so im not gonna. im sure many people dont know how to bypass the torrent ISP blocking, & theres probably always gonna be people that download stuff and people that buy it. im both and feel no guilt whatsoever, they make their 100s of millions, its fine as far as i give a shit. but obviously if everyone downloaded then it'd all go tits up

Why especially films and TV series?

That's fine.. you do what you want & I'll do what I want! =D (nice edit last night.)

Or perhaps I we should argue a bit more for no real reason & I could put you on ignore... that's the EADD way right? ;)

Why especially films and TV series?

There has always been people sharing music with cassettes/CDs etc. Most artists agree that there is nothing wrong that side of things...

If you're going to get all moral about it, stealing music is far worse than stealing a TV show. You're stealing an album that a band is directly trying to sell. With a TV show the DVD sales is just the side gig, the show has already been sold to the TV company that broadcast it in the first place, everyone who made it has already been paid.

No, both are equally wrong from a moral standpoint - it's the same thing! (doesn't matter who you are stealing from.)

You are looking at it from a technical standpoint, which really swings in favour of TV shows because they involve more people etc. (even if the actors have been paid already & don't get royalties) You are not copying a broadcast show. (even though that is what happens in practice) You are essentially stealing a DVD box set before it has been released. Yes people can record broadcast shows & keep them as long as they want but that's not what we are talking about.

If it pleases you to think you are right, then go on thinking so.

Right little couple you two are. ;)

*EDIT* - I do get what you are saying about the morals being different, but down to basics.

Musicians get fuck loads of royalties from being on the radio, adverts, tv shows, films, etc etc..

And obviously their tours :p

Not to mention they've ALREADY been paid by their record company for the album.

What is a bit fucked up is that the stuff made today that get tends to be paid most consistently for is the stuff consumed by the most clueless, and is therefore the shittest stuff going. As a result the good stuff is less likely to be come across by people who haven't specifically sought it out.

Therefore the chances of good music effecting a big change to popular culture like it has done in the past (i.e. through mass exposure/consumption) is next to none with the way things currently work.
