ok so as some of you know i have been taking hydros at first for a stomach issue, but then switched to oxys. (oxycodone) . i just want to make sure that im not going to get addicted to these drugs! it cant be an option for me . so i need to know the warning signs of addiction from someone who is or was addicted to pills. that way i can look out for it and stop if need be! thanks!:?

I know it snuck up on me but the first signs were the thoughts coming into my mind that I was really looking forward to that next dose. Even if I really didn't need it I would rationalize why I would feel so much better if I took some. Then I would feel a little guilty about it but that went away once I consumed that dose. This was the very beginning stage but it didn't take long for it to progress and get worse.

^^^ I agree when you start to crave the drug or think about how/when you'll get the next dose is the first sign. Since it's a prescription obviously take it as prescribed, but I had a script for klonopins and I abused them like crazy because I loved the feeling. I don't anymore. And if the oxy will relax your stomach you might feel a lot better than the hydros so just be careful.

you know you are addicted when:
a.) you crave the drug
b.) you take it everyday for more than a couple weeks
c.) you have a tolerance to the drug
d.) any of the above

....( d.) is correct

being physically addicted is acceptable in medicine but do not seek psychological gratification from opiates, you will not get out intact if you do.

"Drug addiction is defined as a chronic, relapsing brain disease which is characterized by compulsive drug seeking and use despite harmful consequences."

Opiates/opioids are the road to heroin IMO. Not that you will end up addicted but it's hard to resist Nod-land.

Once you begin justifying your usage. YOU ARE BECOMING ADDICTED.

Well, basically if you take opiates everyday, you will become addicted it's a fact. But as long as you wean yourself off when it's time to stop you should be fine. But psychologically you will probably still crave them for awhile. You should make sure you have somone to talk to who knows what withdrawals are like.

thanks for the input everyone! i am just making sure that it dont happen. i cant get addicted to these drugs. i cant allow myself to. i have babies to take care of . i really appreciate the feedback and i will watch for all these warning signs!

But if you need them it shouldn't make you afraid to take them. A ligitimate reason isn't something to be afraid of. ;)

If you went from hydros to oxys, then you're addicted.

Sounds about right. If you need to start upping the dose on the oxy I'd be careful. I was pretty much addicted from the first time I took an oxy. After being off them for almost 5 years now I can honestly say, unless you are in crazy amounts of pain oxy is unnecessary. It is a pain in the ass to get off, even if you are not "addicted". If you are taking them for any extended length of time, I'd say more than 1-2 weeks, you might have noticeable withdrawal symptoms. The last time I used them was for 2 days in a row and I had at least 2 days of not feeling well. When I stopped using after 3 years of constant use/abuse it was a horrific experience of getting clean. Basically locked myself up in my bedroom without being able to eat or sleep for a week, the second week was better but still tough to keep food down / get out of bed. Just my personal experience, I wish you the best OP.
