Technical skill and creativity in my opinion, you can have all the skill in the world but create stuff like that takes a lot of creativity. and dunno about far less oriiginality, depends how hard you look, but its certainly changed everything a lot

I'm not denying that there's lots of creativity at play, but don't you see why others maybe struggle to see it as being on a par with actual performance? I do.

As for the originality thing, all we get are subgenres of musical styles which were for the most part established 30 or 40 years ago. The hip hop music that's being made nowadays (on state of the art equipment) doesn't deviate all that much from the blueprint of the music that was being improvised on crappy equipment before I was even born. Most of what falls under the huge and inadequate umbrella of 'dance' music is hardly that much different from what experimental arists have been doing since the late sixties. People are still making jungle, and that was big when I was a pre-teen. It's disappointing on one level that for all the advances in kit, we're just hearing rehashes of the same old same old.

My point? There isn't one as such, other than people should discard the notion of 'old' and 'new' music, because it ain't happening.

I'm not exactly sure what you're point was, a few hours deep into this acid trip, however that sounds fucking amazing.

Hopefully gonna be a slightly more productive day today than yesterday.

Got FA done, watched some scmaltshy film about Will Ferrel overcoming alcohol addiction overnight in Everything Must Go.

Spoliers, i wouldnt highly recommend it, but in the absence of anything better it was watchable.

NSFW:
overcoming alcohol addiction overnight with nothing more than the aid of 2 valiums!? He went from loosing his job, wife, car, house, money and being a full blown alcoholic to being back on track within about 3 days or so. The best scene was when a neighbour gave him some valiums and he launched into a brutally perceptive 'truth telling rampage' on her. That scene kind of rang true. More than most others in the film.

A bit of a load of tosh really, didnt really merit the 3 stars it was rated at, but it was watchable and passed the time. His wife had chucked all his possesions out onto their lawn, and he eventually decided to have a yard sale, but giving away things like his prized armcahir to some guy, said he didnt want the money, and just a big man hug was all he wanted. :o :sus:Also gave away his retro camera to a camera collector neighbour. He the gave away all his profits to the kid he had befriended who helped him get things together. Some lame pontifications on 'what is normal'. The film could have been so much better.

Hot cup of tea, valium under the tongue and now headphones going on and gonna chill out to some Bob Dylan, Blind Melon and perhaps even The Eagles.
Love these chilled out times. Have a good evening folks.

Nice choice in music max, though i cant say im familliar with Blind Melon. IME the other 2 go perfectly with benzos though, and weed if you're that way inclined. Ive got a load of Egypation papyrus pictures to hang up, had them for about 5 years without getting round to hanging them, might do that today. Also need to tax my car and then i will be skint enough to claim benefits.

Thanks Mdb,you may know one song by Blind Melon which was their biggest hit.It titled 'No Rain' & the video for it was quite popular at the time as it featured a chubby little girl dressed up as a Bumblebee.
Good luck with yr benefit claim, worth looking into claiming ESA if you feel your current health isn't the best it could be at the moment rather than claiming JSA straight away.

I just watched one of those 9th Wonder things up there ^

Am I correct in saying that they take a sample from an old soul record and repeat the odd line or word over and over on top of a modern beat? If so, this goes to prove why I really don't understand electronic music. Where's the creativity or the artistry in that?

No offence to the guys on here having a go, I'm just talking about the genre in general.

9th Wonder is a hip hop producer. He makes beats such as...

It's not meant to be it's own genre of instrumental music or whatever, it's simply beats for rappers.

This video explains quite well what he does - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q4ecvR8_GTg

I'm not denying that there's lots of creativity at play, but don't you see why others maybe struggle to see it as being on a par with actual performance? I do.

It's not meant to be performance though. It's probably closer to composing. Some of it is simple looped up samples, some is much more complex.

I agree that some genres haven't really evolved much since they started, but I don't think that's a bad thing if it still sounds good.
