Breakfast is a super important meal for me and it needs to be a good one. I've been struggling to come up with new breakfast ideas for a while a now. The two meals that I've been rotating are yams with seeds and nuts mixed into them, with two eggs on the side; and the other one is quinoa with almond milk, hemp hearts, sunflower seeds, and pumpkin seeds.

I'm getting bored.

My diet is dairy and gluten free, and recently discovered eggs are a problem as well so I've cut them out. I also can't do tomatoes or potatoes.

I need suggestions for high calorie, protein rich breakfasts that are also additive free and avoid the food groups above. I'm a little stymied to say the least.

What do you tend to have for breakfast? Any suggestions?

Sounds like you're screwed. Have you thought about lowering your austere demands on self? Either relax a bit on what you allow yourself to eat or simply exercise less so you eat less.

Fruit/veggie juice LDO.

I have oatmeal, most have gluten but Bob's Red Mill has gluten free versions, have seen the brand at most supermarkets. Whole-grain oatmeal is a great source for carb, protein and fibre.

I can totally sympathize with having to cut out so many foods and getting bored and frustrated with it. I have a really sensitive digestive tract and I've gone gluten/dairy free for long periods of time before to settle it down and try to isolate foods that bother me. Guess what? It was the dairy and gluten :) I can eat them in moderation now (extreme moderation), and I can tell immediately when I've had to much because I start to have really painful cramps and bloating.

That's unfortunate you've discovered eggs bother you too, because I was originally going to suggest this recipe which I used a lot when I wasn't eating gluten or dairy:

2-Ingredient Banana Pancakes
2 eggs and 1 banana (mashed well) whisked together and fried in your choice of oil. I used peanut butter or fruit as a topping sometimes.

But since you can't have eggs.... what about just having non-breakfast foods for breakfast? Like chicken, veggies, and rice. or some beans and corn salsa in a wheat-free wrap. You could also do something like a dairy-free rice pudding that you make the night before and it's ready to go in the fridge for when you wake up. or a hearty smoothie with fruits, veggies, avocado, nuts, and almond or coconut milk.

This blog has some amazing recipes, a lot of which would prob work for you (and I know for a fact she has a couple of those make-the-night-before pudding things on here): paleomg.com

Here's a couple from the breakfast section of that site that at a glance look like they dont have dairy, gluten, or eggs in it:

Good luck to you man! You're not screwed. Keep thinking positive and focus on what you CAN eat, and how you can make that be delicious and versatile. There's so many food blogs out there nowadays that feature stuff for people who have food allergies, so don't tell yourself you're screwed! You're definitely not alone in this!

I can't... if I eat any of the wrong things I get inflammation and it hurts like hell.

My other half is currently doing a "Juice+" diet plan, which is gluten and dairy free.

He just has rolled outs with fruit in the mornings now. You can actually do a lot of variation with rolled oats, and it's nice hot. Besides that, I'm interested to know what anyone else can come up with.

Thank you! That sounds delicious, and like something my stomach would actually tolerate in the morning.

I usually can't eat much of anything in the morning, just a protein shake or something for the first few hours is usually all I can stomach.

Juicing for me. I have the same diet and issues minus eggs, I think. What do you notice from eggs?

Chia pudding - Endless possibilities! I like to soak it overnight in coconut milk, with various dried fruits (goji a favorite for health).

Stewed apples and pears.

Pho for breakfast! : D Any broth with protein and noodles with veg is a favorite indulgent breakfast of mine. I've been juicing 1 beet 2 celery sticks 1 apple 1 cuke daily (Yea time to switch it up and hit up more greens)

Have you tried lactase supplements ? They provide amazing relief for my dad who's lactose intolerant. You can also get lactose-free milk, it tastes almost the same as regular milk.
Rice and chicken breast is gluten-free, diary-free and rich in protein. I would eat this with some kind of sauce. Hope this helps

Just wondering why most oatmeal contains gluten. . .shouldn't it just essentially be oats, at whatever level of refinement, thus bereft of wheat, thus gluten free?

Mmmm...I'm wondering if one could retool this recipe to work with some egg replacement. I'm guessing that the typical flax-meal/water 'egg' wouldn't fry too well. Using besan (chickpea flour) might work, though it might be better in savory applications, so one could substitute plantains as well.
...
My favored tofu scramble uses frozen silken tofu. There's a lot of water to fry off (maybe less so if you begin with "firm" silken tofu), but it yields a really pleasing texture. You can throw in 'hella vegetables' as well. You can use Indian black salt to confer an eggy flavor, but this works especially well with besan omelets.

I eat oatmeal as breakfast. Im on a (almost) gluten free diet (actually Low FODMAP diet for the time being) as Im gluten intolerant which, in my case, means that I can have very low servings of gluten without a problem so I use regular oats for this but as they can be cross contaminated with gluten from production, you will have to buy the more expensive glutenfree version if you have celiac disease.
Anyways, I make my oatmeal from the following ingredients:

Oats
Coconut flour (not the high fiber one)
1 banana
A small table spoon of almond butter (Roasted with skins, you can use the off-skin none roasted version too but its not as good for this purpose)
Powdered ginger and cinnamon for flavor

Which adds up to a meal with a nice consistency and taste while being rich in healthy fats (it has some saturared too though), protein, hign quality carbs and fibre (most of which is water soluble) + magnesium and potassium

Sorry this is kinda long but I can SO relate! Im currently under a docs care trying to fix some of my issues, but I cant have ANYTHING. I have a gluten intolerance, lactose intolerance and a histamine intolerance which I wouldn’t wish on ANYONE, that last one is by far the worst because you cant avoid it because its in everything! Its just higher in of all things MEAT.. and it SUCKS. So I can have very little eggs, no nuts, gluten or ANY grains , corn, soy, dairy and very little meat.

Many people are able to stop theirs from getting to the point that I am. I didn’t start off this way but over time its gotten worse and worse. Sounds like you might also have what’s called a leaky gut. Id look into doing first an elimination diet and then a rotation diet with the safe foods you uncover on the elimination diet. This will prevent any new foods from becoming problematic as they sometimes tend to do over time. A rotation diet just keeps you from becoming sensitized to new foods while maybe even being able to eat restricted foods every now and then.

One thing I don’t know if you’ve heard but I also used to eat grains as well until a went on an elimination diet to see where my problems were coming from and actually found that all grains hurt my stomach. This is because although they do not have wheat gluten they still have their own form of gluten such as the gluten in oats is called avenin, so many researchers have found that depending on how gluten intolerant you are, that all grains could interfere with healing. Heres a good website and article on this..
http://www.glutenfreesociety.org/gl...g/are-oats-safe-to-eat-on-a-gluten-free-diet/

Anyways, not saying you are that intolerant, but an elimination diet could help you to uncover if this is true. Yea I know, it sounds like you wouldn’t have anything left to eat,but there are more foods than we realize and the most important thing is knowing that your not still eating anything that is keeping you from healing.

Lastly, I cant but if you can still tolerate nuts then almond milk would be a good substitute as well as coconut milk. I also like having fried plantains in coconut oil or butter for breakfast( I can still handle small amount of butter). They taste fantastic especially when your as limited as we tend to be. Another option is acorn squash with cinnamon, butter or coconut oil. Trust me, I feel your pain- you can get better but you just have to be willing to do anything it takes. Heres another website Ive found VERY helpful for explanations of whats happening in our bodies with these sorts of reactions and good recipes too…..

Gluten free oats! Seriously, I eat oats like every morning. Super easy to prepare.
