Hello,

I (22yo male) have recently started to study, namely Chemistry, and so far I like it quite a lot, but at the same time, I feel like I lack the energy and focus I need, because it is quite demanding from the beginning (who would've guessed? ;) ).
After university I'm very exhausted all the time (especially after lab) which makes it harder to study...
I'm having problems with anxiety and depression as well, which doesn't help either. Actually, my problems eased quite a bit since I've started to go to University, because doing something valueable with your life helps a lot (imo), but I really want to improve my focus to keep up with it.

I already exercise quite a lot (mostly riding the bike) and eat somewhat healthy (not 100%, but still more than most people, I think), but what other things could I try? Anything from supplements to other stuff...

greets :)

I noticed that whenever I forget to take my supplements I also lack energy and feel tired. Here is my current supplement list:

Multivitamin
Vitamin c
Omega 3

I was taking Magnesium until last month but decided to stop taking it because I felt like my anxiety weaned down. What current supplements are you taking? For me, these supplements are enough and of course eating healthy. If you are not taking any supplements maybe you can try to see if this will work for you and give you a boost to your energy and focus. Let me know what has helped.

I find rhodiola rosea and green tea in the morning with a balanced breakfast energizes me and helps me focus all day.

Exercise before studying vastly improves cognition. Read 'Spark' for more.

Need specific background information. Drug history? Family issues? Relationship problems? What has your living situation been like for the past year, your lifestyle -- food, exercise, etc.

Quantify. How much is quite a lot? What do you eat? Do you write down what you eat and what activity you do? If not, that's a good start.

Sleep is the most important. Then food intake. Then exercise.

Do you masturbate often? Watch porn? Smoke weed, cigarettes or consume coffee? These are all massive drains upon your energy. Just trying to pinpoint things.

I was a uni student for 6 years and for me nutrient-dense food and sleep were the most crucial, sleep being the utmost important. Students do so much mental processing that they burn through important nutrients a lot faster than other people.

All the nutrients which reinforce the nervous system are critical for students, such as magnesium, calcium, zinc, saturated and unsaturated fats (including the omegas), and whole protein. Simple carbs will ruin a student faster than anything else.

Tonics and stimulant herbs are generally reserved for people with a sluggish constitution who can't get moving, or they are used in people suffering from burnout but combined with a LOT of rest. Tonics increase the metabolic rate so if you use that energy to rest, your body will regenerate; however, if you use the pick me up of tonics to do more, you'll end up way worse off.

Avoid stimulants whether they're caffeine or herbal supplements. I think rhodiola is an okay short-term supplement but it is for sure stimulating. It would be better to go for a nervine tonic like chamomile, tulsi, or ashwaganda in the evening. I never consumed caffeine as a student and just listened to my natural rhythms. I know there can be deadlines which require you to push yourself but in your average day to day with so much excessive thinking it's not good to add stimulants to the mix.

coffee/caffeine/cocaine/methamp

if six year olds can get dex so should uni students.

exercise and sleep helps too.
