Stimulants Reducing tolerance when taking therapeutic doses of amphetamine for ADHD

I take 60 mg of vyvanse daily as prescribed for ADHD. It's been tremendously helpful and I didn't have any issues with tolerance over the first 8 months, but for the past few weeks I was taking 20 mg boosters of adderall every couple of days and I couldn't take my usual 2-3 days off a week due to finals. As a result, my tolerance has reached a level where my normal dose of vyvanse isn't as helpful.

I'm planning on taking a break to get my tolerance back down, but I just wanted to make sure I was doing it as efficiently as possible. Right now, I'm planning on taking a month off of all amphetamines, caffeine, heavily reducing my nicotine intake, exercising everyday and supplementing daily with low doses magnesium, zinc, l-Tyrosine, DXM. Does anyone have any advice or similar experience with this? Is this a good place/Do you think I'll see significant results?

Iv been in your situation and i empathize fully.
(not with vyvanse specifically, but prescribed amphetamines for ADHD)

Sadly your best option is just taking a break.
Take a break whenever you can! Seriously...like if you dont need it for even a day........don't, its worth it in the long term
Taking a month off is great!
Personally, id stay off magnesium, dxm and any other NMDA antagonist, unless you're currently taking amphetamines.
Not because its necessarily bad for you, Ive just never noticed any benefits.

Supplementing NMDA antagonists while using amphetamines does seem to have a noticeable effect on effectiveness with repeated doses, so id recommend that.
Also, taking l-Tyrosine does have an effect when taking daily amphetamines as far as overall mood.

I think your month off will be perfect for you.

Anything else you want to know. Any other questions....
feel free to ask.

It honestly looks like you have a pretty good grasp on the known amphetamine tolerance reduction/prevention techniques. I've never actually tried any of those methods so I'm not quite sure of the dosages or length of time that it takes to see results, but it's something I've considered putting into play recently. Do you ever potentiate your doses?

With regard to dosage for the DXM and l-Tyrosine, is the daily recommended allowance sufficient? I don't like to go over unless I know it's safe.

I potentiate them with coffee to draw out the duration if you'd count that, but not with any supplements or nootropics.

Personally i dont like using DXM, i know its probably better than magnesium, but i figure, how much damage can magnesium do.
As far as l-Tyrosine, im sure its safe to take a higher dose, as clinical studies I've read regarding its effects(although they're usually inconclusive) have used doses in excess of 6Gs.
Though i can't say wether or not it will make it any more effective.......

General rule of thumb tho, if you're worried........dont.
Better to be safe than sorry.

In my opinion, at the doses you were taking, your best bet definitely seems to be just following through with the break you had planned. Not to say other methods aren't worth a shot if you're going to be stopping anyway, but I'm sure most would agree that you'll yield the most significant results by taking the time off.

Yeah, you're right magnesium is good for you if anything and I can't find much research on long-term, low dose DXM usage. Maybe I'll just take DXM the first 10 days or something. God knows I'll have a nasty cough for a little while when I go from smoking a pack a day to 2-3 cigs a day at most haha.

I'm taking a month off regardless, and I suspect intense exercise, a healthy diet, and less nicotine will have a more significant effect on my brain than any supplements I could take. I just figured if there were any supplements that could help my brain readjust more quickly they would be worth taking.
