NKB- perhaps a touch more acerbic then I am used to, but I truly enjoy and value your honesty :) I don't agree with some of your comments but I will always make an effort to read and comprehend them :) <3

A lil beloved birdy or two reminded me of the Goodness that is PD Social just recently. One of said birdies may well have been Xorky himself. Had no idea your goodself was back amongst us. Which is perhaps good reason enough to poke me nose in PD every now and then. Am not unaware I dropped it like a ouchyhot spuddy immediately after being demodded... but that really has nothing to do with prolonged absence. Reason for being demodded certainly does have relevance though. Hopefully I'm getting beyond that now...

Also, am not unaware this is a somewhat odd post to be making for first visit to PD Social in a dog's age, but I give not fuck one cos it means a thing to me and maybe does to one or two others...

Either way, hello, Swirlies =D<3

(blimey, that takes me back some :o)

Whilst large portions of your above statement were somewhat confusing to me, due predominantly to my temporary cessation of bluelight-inspired-time-wasting, it is more then wonderful to hear and see your syntactical craftsmanship blaze once more across my monitor. Hello Shambles :):) <3 Whats news?

I reckon it would be odder still not to post oddly in these parts.

I concur. But less of the "old timer" if you don't mind. I've recently sworn off bitchin' bout being old on the basis that I actually am so should stop bitchin bout it.

Large portions of all my statements are somewhat confusing to me, you get used to it.

Whatever reasons for prolonged absence may or may not have been, matters nary a fuck really. Is good to see so many familiar folk down in PDLand. I should make more of an effort. On the Social thing and the swirlsomes too. Those pesky other drugs do have a knack for getting in the way of a boy's vittles.

What's news? Removing said pesky other drugs from my system mostly. Although I'm not sure that counts as news given how often I go about it. One of these days I'll even get around to finishing it too. Maybe even this time, who knows? Not I.

Bleh. This is precisely why I don't visit PD more often these days. Aforementioned pesky drugs are considerably less :)<3:) which would be another good reason for seeing how far I can get along this whole finishing bizniz.

Don't mind me, hungover and withdrawing. Have some tunes instead - far better than me and me whinings.

Dr. Lily thinks whales are the pinnacle species on earth due to their enormoys brains. Like, maybe the water is like virtual reality to them or something? More conducive to manipulation through electrochemical impulse. Maybe they have psychic structures like cities made out of just water, held in place by the whales' acknowledgement of the form.

Also, some human women are tetrachromats and can see UV light.

I'm completely bonkers (IMO), so it's surprising how often people do agree with me.

your posts in the last few days were quite a bit more scathing than usual, for sure

You know when I make long, theoretical appraisals of this or that, I can think about the issues and hone my statements for hours. It feels violent, usually, the more factual it is, the more I am cutting someone's thoughts down. I always feel empty after, but that goes for intellectual stuff in general, even if I'm looking up a bunch of stuff to speculate an answer to a novel/uncommon HR question or somesuch thing. I like to think I'm good at it, but it's ineffective/impotent.

Ideas and understandings I come to wither and die, flitting to-and-fro across the seasons...it'd be nice to do something for a change. I've been getting frustrated lately, and it's oozing out of me.

Also, some human women are tetrachromats and can see UV light.

I knew that tetrachromats can see shades of blue that I can't, and that people with cataract surgery can sometimes see into the UV spectrum, but I hadn't heard this before.

Cool. And word. Do you remember me, maybe? My name was similar, but I can't access that account anymore, I forgot stuff. Also, it's going on four. Lol.

One more thing: I've noticed that some of you have reached the point of despair over voting/politics and its ability to lead to meaningful change. I was at that precipice myself a ways back, resolved to apathy on all except state & municipal ballot measures, when I came across this in a book of Langston Hughes poetry I was reading, it turned me around: Let America Be America Again. Maybe it'll mean something to ya. :)

NKB- Perhaps a fault of mine, but I enjoy scathing, acerbic, over-thought, and overwrought posts...:p I am perpetually the nihilist, working on that! Regardless, you never come across as an asshole...moreso one with a penchant for details, vocabulary, firm opinions, and facts. Nothing wrong there!

Shammy good to see you here. That commute to EADD gets exhausting...mind you, I'll still be there....still the home of many of my favs....I just wandered back into these parts myself after a few year absence, expected a bunch of unfamiliar names, but got quite the contrary! I hear ya on the phasing out of the non swirlies....was almost there, save for the wretched diazepam taper (benzos are the devil inna pill if there ever was one) and the probably too frequent use of dissociatives (not swirls in my book, but some may beg to differ....for me they are the ultimate escape, with just enough pseudo swirlz to convince the monkey brain they are "good" for me, ha)...but the last few daze have found me back on the goddamn Kratom. Ibogaine gave me a door, I stepped through it for two weeks....and stepped back. No one to blame but myself. Ibo did a great job on the opioid withdrawal and craving part, but nadda for the more insidious antidepressant like withdrawals. Still, I could have kept with it...but one flawed justification led to a "one off" and it's 24/7 again :( Will try again at the end of the week, with the ol' loperamide and exercise approach...sigh...

Some may scoff at Kratom addiction, but it is particularly nasty for me....granted, the years on, and 40-50 grams a day might have something to do with it, but it just gets its hooks in deep, especially compared to how mild the effects are. But in brighter news, I'm not shooting smack, guzzling methadone, guicing GBL 24/7, smoking crack, peevee, shooting coke, meth, or -insert anything here-...it's progress, slowly but surely.

I like the attitude Shambolic one...if yr not old, neither am I! It's just these kids that are young :D It's all attitude anyhow....NKB has been a sure geezer lately and I Know I have years and years on him ;)

John Lily had some interesting ideas, but also some seriously delusional ones. Talk about a bright mind fried on dissociatives! He always gives me pause when I'm overdoing them...well, lately at least. I didn't give a toss ten and more years ago when I was IMing a gram plus of ketamine night after night!

i don't think it is just you. i have been feeling that way, too, and many people i've spoken with recently both IRL and online have expressed similar feelings as of late. i think its called "spring fever". :)

xorkoth, did you ever play EverQuest?

I did, briefly, I couldn't get into it. When I was younger I played an online multiplayer text-based role-playing game (a MUD technically), called Dragonrealms. Best game I ever played, after a while you stopped seeing it as text and text commands and you started to see it in your mind's eye. This was mostly before I found drugs, it was my previous addiction, it was like my second life. The name Xorkoth comes from that, it was my character's name (he was a moon mage). It just came to me randomly when I was creating the character when I first started playing. Due to some shady circumstances I don't agree with, I got kicked out of the game, so since then in honor, I use the name for my pseudonym.

Ah yes, me too...

I have always wondered what it would be like to be a whale or dolphin. It seems clear to me they are highly intelligent. It could even be that the only reason they don't have cities and stuff is because they have no hands or other appendages to manipulate things in a complex way. I'm not saying I necessarily think that's true but they are very fascinating to me as a species.

wait for it.. O_O dat bluegrass! Utter insanity LMAO

Also, some human women are tetrachromats and can see UV light.

Almost:

Humans cannot perceive UV light directly since the lens of the eye blocks most light in the wavelength range of 300-400 nm; shorter wavelengths are blocked by the cornea.[18] Nevertheless, the photoreceptors of the retina are sensitive to near UV light and people lacking a lens (a condition known as aphakia) perceive near UV light as whitish blue or whitish-violet, probably because all three types of cones are roughly equally sensitive to UV light, but blue cones a bit more.

Interestingly Monet has been suspected to show unusual use of color due to this condition.

Hiya Shambs!! :D Cheers for cleaning up a bit, I'm trying to take more responsibility also.
Nice to have you here, you can contribute to our neckbreaking ramble record that is blowing up this thread. :)

I'm glad I inspired such good post rock discussion, most people I meet don't know what it is.

I'm glad people from far across the globe can come here and chat about their somewhat uncommon shared interests.

TNW I wish I had ogre battle to play but I have always somehow encountered problems with the rom versions :(

fire emblem is my video game/strategy/fantasy addiction but I have over played the shit out of them. Im currently getting through the gamecube one but my girlfriend hates when I play 8)

that's me and my girlfriend last summer after we'd been dating for a few months and we were still super happy just to be together.

I really wish I had more friends like you guys in person. My friends are great they just care too much about doing nothing like getting drunk and eating unhealthy food and watching crappy tv/movies

anyone seen Hard Ticket to Hawaii?

^I watched that the other night and it was unreal

Do you guys know or use Wolfram Alpha and have you seen the TED talk on it? It's pretty amazing :)

SONN, is that whole movie nicely ridiculous and culty? Might be a good one for a stoned evening..

It's about time you found your way over here Shamz. :) <3

i was so burnt out on it by the end that i just couldn't imagine going back to academia any time soon.

That's my obstacle. I'm afraid to go back.

I have a 1997 Volvo S40 which I got as inheritance from my grandpa. Only 70 000 kilometers in, works like a charm :)

Nice, when my mom upgrades I'm hoping to get a handed down diesel Jetta; oh the blessed fuel mileage. ;)

Yeah, V8 pickup truck for the time being. Good for camping, not much else. :\

bluelight-inspired-time-wasting

Yeah, this is creeping in on me too. The best times seem to be late at night, and I just can't be doing that and have a healthy, non-sleep deprived life.

I am feeling ridiculously better compared to a few days ago, man that shit is garbage. A big part of it is spring and warm days, but sleep is major factor obviously.

I got a new batch of poppy seeds yesterday and they're fantastic. I'm not sure if it's a new batch or lack of meth, but a 200g tea had me nodding all evening, and buzzed today. If there were nothing else in life, no people, and I never got used to it, lying down on a couch with a solid morphine buzz is a nice way to be. :P

I need to get up at 6:30 for the foresseable future, so going to bed at 10 is likely going to be the norm for me. It leaves so little time at night, but man I love sleep.

I'm glad I inspired such good post rock discussion, most people I meet don't know what it is.

Dude feel free to start mentioning some more obscure post rock bands than the ones we've mention already in this thread. I listen to lots and lots of it.

I actually ran a poll recently in Non-Electronic Music Discussion, and I shit you not, Post Rock was the most popular and listened to genre. It must be a druggie thing.

SONN, is that whole movie nicely ridiculous and culty? Might be a good one for a stoned evening..

It's made by this old guy who looks like a hawaiian tourist who tells you how awesome his movie is in the beginning with some hot girl. The entire thing is hilarious and there's this cheesy snake horror element that doesn't make sense the whole movie. It's great. Most of the lines are incredibly sexist and there are a lot of scenes with boobs in them. There are some scenes that are purely so there could be more boob time such as two chicks making small talk in a hot tub.

it's up there with one of the best/worst movies i've ever seen. I totally recommend it.

just like texas chainsaw massacre 4: the next generation, that's another really bad yet hilarious movie.
