Hi guys, I hope you've all been well.

I love the olympics:

I have made the same observation. Canada's existence is forgettable 95% of the time, then comes the Winter Olympics and they're total badasses who brutalize us six ways from Sunday. Also, way more fun to watch than Summer Olympics.

So we got like, nearly .25" of rain over the course of two days recently, and of course there's a car smashed into a tree in the center divider just down the street. It's just too much to handle after the brutal Arctic weather we've experienced lately.

Much, much better. Let's just say I tend to learn things the hard way.

Winter olympics are SO much better. There's the distinct element of thrill and speed that the summer olympics just don't have. I would love to try flying down an ice track on a luge or skeleton; that ride must be so intense. Even though we spend much more time with summer weather, winter is where we make a big deal of sporting events.

I actually love that 'forgetableness' (except to be honest I think it's more to do with your media that doesn't look beyond your borders). That easy going, "it's all good, nothing to report here" is part of the identity and it's actually a great way to have a country. I must say if we stopped functioning you'd know pretty quick though. The catastrophic shortage of lumber and petroleum would be kinda noticeable. Thanks for keeping the soviets at bay though ;)

It's interesting, we're seen as laid back but we're quite aggressively patriotic, to the point that it's on par or above the typically intense American level. When travelling abroad we go out of our way to indentity as Canadian; we don't want the north american accent to mislead people. ;)

And yeah, when winter olympics come, it's a big deal. I got in crap 4 years ago for always having a live stream on my computer at work, it sort of impeded my productivity. :P

I don't know what you're talking about. We have extensive coverage of newsworthy events in both continents of the Western hemisphere.

As shown in my handy graphic:

But does a sizable portion of your population believe that your nation was literally chosen by God to save the world from the forces of Evil? Just like we saved the world single-handedly in WWII, and probably WWI (but we don't know what happened in that war, something about some guy named Franz Ferdinand, trench warfare, and our BFF Britain was there).

^ Smuggle some of your cheap liquor up here.

I just remembered the words of Kevin Smith. He's pretty much an unofficial honorary Canadian citizen up here. As to why he gravitates towards Canada; it's the Jersey thing. We have a very loud and identifiable neighbour, just like New Jersey (Can-US / NJ-NYC). We're like the mellowed out older sibling who just says "yeah, US is great". His words, not mine ;)

I concede, just like New Jersey's patriotism, ours is somewhat fueled by an inferiority complex.

NKB; I've heard that analogy before lol. South America? You mean the states below the Mason-Dixon line right?

LOL beat this level of democracy: our elected officials can be caught smoking crack cocaine, and the only way they can be removed is by the people, in the next election! =D

so good to see you around. what have you been up to, man? you still working on motorcycles?

I haven't thought about Salvia in a long, long time until I came to this forum. And I probably won't after I tab out of this page.

Here's to LSD, I always found this quote to be relevant regardless of how non-spiritual the source is

"I'll smoke it with ya bro, we'll go to the loony bin together. I don't give a fuck."

Roger man! so glad to see you kickin around. You're one of those voices in my head that keeps calling me back here. Every time I leave I can never completely disconnect and not return. I can hear you guys wondering what I'm up to, just like I do the same for you guys. I've been feeling the pull for a while, but was procrastinating; mainly from the guilt of dissapearing from my mod responsibilities. I can safely say I won't think of touching one of those positions with a 10 foot pole. Not only have I proven my flaky-ness and wouldn't be given one anyway, but that kind of stuff is in the past for me. It's a good way to get involved, integrate and contribute something, but time and again I've found it eventually becomes a pressure that turns bluelight into a chore; even in the ultra low traffic DS. To anyone thinking of modship reading this; that isn't a universal truth; just my experience. If it was that way for everyone we wouldn't have long term smods and admins. Even given that it turns into a chore for many people I highly recommend it. Modding PD was fun and I got to meet a lot of people (who are still in my head with voices of concern, wondering how I'm doing; a true sense of belonging).

And then if you decide to drop the modstick you can be one of the crew; except for me at the moment. I'm in an interesting state of limbo. The order goes like this Bluelighter > PD mod > BL crew > DS mod (required previous crew status to apply) > disappeared; now Bluelighter. Sent in the request for crew access again, just find it funny how I reverted to the state I was at before PD mod, not the state I was before DS mod. I think it's just an oversight though.

Oh ya, Roger's message :P

I've been taking it easy, gathering myself up. Mentally I'm the healthiest I've ever been, but it took a complete collapse to start rebuilding on the rock bottom foundation. Back in September I lost my shit, hospitalized; delusional psychosis, tachycardia, angina. You could say I was consuming more than my fair share of uppers. I'd always been good at moderating my stuff, as was seen by my legendarily low tolerances I used to post about here. Well I ended up being able to consume ~200mg of amps a day and not feel high. The line between the dose to overcome tolerance and the dose of psychosis was very thin and I sure as hell crossed it.

So that's over and done with. It did require taking a break from school though; a wasted year. Wasted academically anyway; I'm dumbfounded by how my thought processes have changed and comfortable I am in my own skin; paradigm shift. Of course it's not perfect yet, but it's in the direction that I'm going where the change is profound. It's just a positive feedback loop from there.

I'm kind of working on bikes still; I have one in the basement right now, but it never turned into a a steady paycheck. It's really just a hobby with a few bucks on the side. I think it's for the best though; want to hate your hobby? Do it for a living. I'm going to get a landscaping job when the thaw comes, and from there go back to school or get a job in a lab again.

And.. it's an honour to be bestowed the title of "equivalent" from you :D <3

Some nice craft beers? We'd be happy to, bootlegging is in our blood. We'll throw in some bourbon, 'cause it's what we do here.

Interestingly during American prohibition, our supply just went under a state run liquor store (LCBO in Ontario) which remains to this day. Our liquor control from the 30s never got repealed, which is why we pay socialist style taxes on the stuff.

Back to my point though; because it was never actually prohibited here liquor was smuggled through a maze of channels between islands in the St. Lawrence river east of where I live; aptly named Smuggler's Cove. Beautiful piece of nature, part of the Thousand Islands.

And that's ANOTHER reason why Canada is better than America =D ;)

(our heritage of smuggling you the booze, not our current liquor prices) :P

Harper hasn't been a Reagan or a Thatcher for you, eh? It's obviously your socialist healthcare system that's to blame. It's like you think that a human life has value outside of the amount of green paper it owns, or whatever color your money is. I don't even know (I actually don't). We only get your coins that jerkasses try to pass off as quarters or whatever. So aside from maple syrup and, you give us fake money, only suitable for the garbage bin, or as a gift to amuse a kid for a few minutes. You also gave us Justin Bieber, but that's more than made up for by our snagging Bryan Lee O'Malley.

Props for helping us fight the good fight against the Temperance movement though. And it seems you're ahead of us by one medal, well played ya Canucks. Well played.

part of the Thousand Islands

Is that where Thousand Island dressing was invented? If so, our delicious hamburgers thank you.

Do you really have a new hat Rog? I haven't been wearing hats much lately, I was trying out a matching beenie/scarf combo, but it was only cold enough to justify it for like 3 days. OTOH, I got a couple new tie clips for Christmas, so it's all good. My point is that hats are great.

Funny how that works. Go big or go home. The thing about collapsing in dramatic fashion is that you have no choice in the matter; it's not a drawn out state of miserable limbo that can be lifelong. It's a total fuck up, and in the aftermath there's the clean slate to work with. :)

Harper hasn't been a Reagan or a Thatcher for you, eh? It's obviously your socialist healthcare system that's to blame.

Harper has got to be the most moderate right winger ever; but I guess he has to be to get/maintain power in the exemplar of liberalism. The vocal left up here hates his guts, but given the options we've had to choose from in recent times he's the only one that seems to have a stable, logical head on his shoulders. As my bro-in-law says; no one really likes Harper, he's just the only reasonable option right now. It is true that he's a hard guy to like; ice cold, smug, not someone I'd like to spend much time around.

I'm sure in the past you noticed my drift towards the right wing side of things, but I've mellowed quite a bit. I honestly think amps can drift one's thoughts to 'everyone for themselves', 'cut off the leeches' kind of shit. Almost Hitler-ish (liked his methamp). Anyways, I find myself in the most uncertain voting position I've ever had; it changes by the hour when I'm thinking about it.

If there's one thing our government knows not to mess with, it's health care. That's such a bedrock principle for what we stand for, to cut it is akin to shutting down food banks and watch people starve.
Even in the peak of my right wingishness I never thought we should reduced spending on health care. I still find it hard to believe the most wealthy nation in the world (US of course) has only recently started to implement socialized medicine/universal healthcare/obamacare/whatever it's called. The rest of the developed world has had it since, well I'm not sure, but I'm thinking it came in the 50s; long time anyway. That's the part that amazes me. What has me scratching my head to baldness in a total state of "does not compute" is the vehement backlash it's gotten. I know those Fox news folks are simply stupid but it's not just them. This day in age in the sole superpower the arguments against universal healthcare are a manifestation of undiluted greed and apathy for the less fortunate.
If there's someone here who disagrees with universal healthcare I know my schpeal is going to seem inflexible, but that's just the way it is. That's my view, and out of all political issues, that's one that is a bedrock principle for the rest of the developed world. No bankruptcy here because you have an incredibly expensive-to-treat illness, and the way we value our system, there never will be.

Sorry for getting overly passionate, I'm a bit drunk, and that just grinds my gears. ;)
