Lets say a person is addicted to oxycodone. They schedule an appointment with a GP and tell the doctor that they messed around with oxycodone that was not prescribed to them for too long, and wanted to seek help getting off because they have become too dependant to go cold turkey. Will the doctor help or would he just refer you to a rehab or something. Would he give you a lower dosage of oxycodone? Methadone or suboxone? Just wondering thanks.

No GP is going to give you opiates to taper with if you come in and say you're addicted. That's a good way to never get opiates ever again actually.

If you want methadone or suboxone you have to go to a methadone clinic or private specialized suboxone doctor.

No doctor is going to give you opiates to help you taper. Your best bet is to gather some WD supplies and tough it out, or if you cannot function with out opiates then go to a bupe doctor and tapeer.

It depends on where you live, how long you've been seeing this Dr., and the doc's practice philosophy.. If you live in the US and just starting going to this Doc, chances are he wont prescribe anything scheduled.. most likely you will get a sub referral. However I have heard of ppl getting oxys prescribed for tappering in Canada.

Go to the UK and get put on a diamorphine taper, that'll fix you up reaalllll nice...

lolzjk. what he said is very true^^^^ but if you see the doc and he's good at all you will no matter what receive some form of help for your addiction.

This contradicts entirely what you said in your last thread which got closed, amidst the waffle about how you could not get addicted or brain changes could not occur with once weekly use of heroin/Oxycodone and tolerance to Oxycodone could not occur under this once weekly regime, despite the dose having more than doubled, yet here you are, asking how you can withdraw from oxycodone/get subs/methadone.

Addiction is not about what you think it is and free will becomes eroded when the reward centres and motivation area of the brain undergoes significant change with repeated use - this is partially why addiction is classified as a disease. Add in physical dependence as you have found, where users will do anything to avoid withdrawal and the cycle begins. Once you are staving off withdrawal, the psychological and physical changes are underway.

No doc will prescribe you opiates "to taper" and you'll never get any opiates ever again in a medical setting if you go in and admit illicit i.e. non prescribed use and addiction - you need to either go through withdrawal and never touch opiates again, or get a sub or methadone doc. If you think oxys or scag are hard to quit now, wait til you try and quit a long half life opiate.

You can get out now, or trade your soul with the devil.

I'll say....the original doctor that prescribed you opiates in the first place may taper you using the same drug, but the standard protocol in most cases would be to refer you to either inpatient detox or ORT of some form, buprenorphine or methadone.
