CEPS Well Hung Parliament (CEPS Social/Off Topic)

I keep over-hearing people wanting to leave my state (Oklahoma) and go to Washington/Colorado. NORML just did a study and 51% are in favor of outright legalization...And people are moving. Lazy and selfish.

Pretty much everyone I know wants to live somewhere else, and this in a subtropical paradise.

You need to organize a referendum and put the law on the ballot, because your state legislature will never move on it themselves.

A national referendum process would begreat too.

I've been thinking lately, what's with all of the lawyer and soldier presidents? Are these qualities that are inherently compatible with governance?

Just under 16% of all US presidents were neither lawyers or military men. I didn't run specific numbers, but the number of soldiers were pretty much equal to the number of lawyers who have held office.

As far as I know, only one diplomat has ever been president, Buchanan. One Tailor, Andrew Jackson. One engineer, Hoover. One school teacher, Johnson. One clothing retailer, Truman. And one "businessman", Bush II. The rest were all either military men or lawyers.

As the US government has an army of lawyers and an actual.....army to aid these matters, is it that important if our leaders are career lawyers or soldiers?

Andrew Jackson was a soldier as well, he fought both in the Indian Wars and in the War of 1812.

Bush II was in the National Guard.

Truman served in WWI.

I guess you have to expect that a larger proportion of people who practice law would be interested in getting into the business of writing law.

Or economists, or diplomats, or sociologists or other people with experience in dealing with foreign affairs or social problems.

As the president is largely just a face in a suit, these qualities seem like they would be very important.

Already tired of hearing about Michael Sam. He is on every channel all the time now. I'm surprised he hasn't pre-empted the Olympics on NBC.

When does coming out as gay stop being newsworthy? At best, it should be relegated to the entertainment section.
