How do drugs fit into your relationship?

My girl and I are both recovering opiate addicts, shes a year clean from all opiates (took her last sub a year ago almost exactly now) , and im still on sub maintenance. We both have history with almost all types of drugs but we have quit everything except my sub, and a roll/trip every once in a while. Weve had some amazing experiences together on psychadelics, mind blowing sex and deep conversations that have helped us become very close. Shes like my best friend, lover, and sponsor all in one :) shes the most beautiful and intelligent girl ive ever met.

Honestly, drugs have helped in some ways but wed be fine without too.... but if we would have started our relationship 5yrs ago it would have been terrrible for us probably, but since weve both grown and are in recovery, I think it helps to know what each other is going thru. Idk if id be where im at in my sobriety if it wasnt for her... I love her and am super lucky to have such an open minded and awesome girlfriend :))

well for a while in high school my girlfriend would crack the shits if i smoked weed, which i wasn't that into at the time so i just laid off
aside from that i haven't really been serious with anyone. recently though another girl seemed to up her consumption of mdma, and im almost certain it was to impress me lol. didn't like that
now thinking about if i did get a girlfriend drugs would probably be some kind of issue, and my line of thinking is that if she's into drugs, i'm gonna start hemorrhaging money, especially since i'm a pretty good 'person to know' as well and i can see myself getting paranoid that i'm just getting used for my sourcing abilities plus other people's drug habits often concern and/or repulse me, which is almost definitely hypocritical seeing as if i saw my habits on someone else i would probably have the same/worse reaction
on the other hand do there even exist girls who are not into drugs themselves, but comfortable dating someone with an all-encompassing poly-drug habit?
the other thing is whenever i start seeing girls they start wanting to get into the same things im into, sharing experiences with me, etc, which understandable as it is i don't feel good about getting people into it

I've never dated or been in any sort of sexual relationship with a drug user, unless we are taking alcohol into consideration.
My on going drug addiction and mental health problems have been the downfall of every single carnal relationship I've ever had.

I am a firm believer that I'll never have a true relationship or even frequent sexual encounters with a single woman until I am sober and in a much better psychiatric state.

i like drugs but i can say no to excessive intake. everything in moderation

what annoyed me recently is my housemate got really thick and angry because i pointed out how many more people alcohol kills than mdma. he's in essence supposed to be evidence based but he cant let the media brainwashing go and its very stupid. he got annoyed and left the room. because i was right after showing him the death rates and he couldn't accept it. which is a shocking level of ignorance from an otherwise intelligent person.

he kept saying drugs are illegal because they are bad. well yeah retard what about fags and vodka? exactly so shut up

my last relationship broke down because they didn't mind me smoking weed but did have a problem with once a year use of mdma. once a fucking year. come on! they drink every week. every single week. hypocrites and philistines

ridiculous. also i split from them because they had a shitty very low paid job at 34 and made no effort to have a proper career even though trained with a skill which could have made them loads. stupid behaviour

I have been in one relationship where the girl did not mind as long as I tried to stay away from the I.v. opiates , she didnt mind that I partied and used drugs... and this was when I was younger and really crazy with it.. she rolled with me 2 times but besides a few hits off of a joint that was her entire drug history.
She even went and got a prescription of suboxone for me for almost 2yrs.. she would drop a teeny peice of sub in the urine sample and never took one
... just so I could stay opiate free.

Anywho..it was probably a fluke because every other time ive tried s relationship with someone who didnt share my interests it failed horeibly lol

First post here, so Hi everyone.

My wife and I are true sole mates, our relationship has got so much stronger since we started taking MDMA about 7 years ago. We do it every weekend maybe 0.5g each because we love the feeling it gives us and we love having sex on it, we do go out clubbing about once a month (it used to be more) but more often these days we just like to stay at home, take some MD and a blue pill for me and then have sex on and off for about 8 hours. We have a far better sex life than anyone I know and it really cements our relationship together. I can't imagine ever having this sort of connection with someone else.

We have been heavy evening and weekend cannabis users as well, though now my wife just uses a vapouriser (had a bit of lung trouble thats all sorted now) which I do too and the odd single skin joint. We are always worried that using MD like this weekly over a long period may be damaging but we love it SO much. We have decided to cut it down to once or twice a month. We do the odd bit of coke, shrooms and speed though this is very occasional and light.

We have never been addicts to anything physically, BUT we do accept that we are just to type of people that love to get shitfaced together, so we try to keep everything in moderation and look after ourselves with a great diet and 5:2 fasting every week as well.

Well if by drugs you mean intoxicating drugs, my current gf drinks very rarely. We share an odd joint here and there, and she always takes her hit via my mouth....That's about it.

Aside from that, she is on 'the pill'. I also sneak in the odd Valium or Xanax, of which are not currently hard to source, if you understand what I mean by that...

Since my last post in this thread (~4 months ago), I've ceased all contact with the meth using ex. A mutual friend told me he's now dating another heavy meth user and has lost the right to see his children. I remain single and abstinent from everything except pot (medical) and alcohol (a few nights a week). I'm in the phase of "let's see where this goes" with a guy who drinks and smokes less than I do. We haven't had any arguments or issues.

I'm most heartbroken over the fact that my ex allowed drugs to get in the way of his relationship with his sons. I'm a grownup and can handle heartache. They aren't, and they can't. I fortunately am friends with their mother (who does not use drugs beyond a beer or two), and I help the boys with their homework somewhat regularly.

Mostly psilocybin, cannabis, and other Psychadelics. Our spring cleaning consists of a massive switch to a protein-heavy, vegetable based diet, and we go on a week-long speed binge.

19 year relationship with drugs, particularly MDMA, at the epicentre. Without MDMA our relationship would not have survived extraneous circumstances in the first 12 months. Still going strong. Yeah drugs are central, but not essential. Know this because we went travelling the world for nearly a year and had coke once and spliff not until we reached SE Asia, some 4 months in to the journey.

Drugs are cool with us but then neither of us is into H or crack. I imagine that makes a difference.

We take drugs that particularly enhance sex. To me, this is good living.

I used to have relations with woman who did drugs.. It's not as cool as it sounds. I mean, snorting opana (rip stop signs) off her tits and sexing it up for hours is fun, and having a girl buy me tons of coke everyday was fun, too. But, in the end, it wasn't as great as it seemed. For every fun thing about it, there was probably 2-3 negatives.

Meth (which I do not use, haven't even seen it in years) has essentially destroyed any possibility I had/have of anything lasting with my partner. This is not intended to sound judgmental, but I won't associate with people who use it. He recently confessed that after he and I had a relatively small argument, that he had sought some out and used it to get back at me. He then asked me for my forgiveness, which I gave - I did not yell. The next day, he continued to behave very erratically, even punching a fan over something stupid that happened to him at work. Already he is bipolar I.

I do not see this getting any better. I am heartbroken. I broke up with my former fiance 7 years ago because of a hidden meth addiction for which he refused to seek help. He knew this. I won't be emotionally blackmailed like that again.

I drink maybe twice a week now after daily drinking for way too long. I like the green, but not all day every day. I need a guy who knows how to handle himself and does not use hard drugs. :(

hard drugs like speed are fine about once or twice a year for each drug i.e. coke once then a month later mdma then two months later a trip, etc. this way no one form of thought alteration is getting too strong a hold on you and altering your daily activities and body in a specific way. its when one becomes a regular pattern hat you should worry big time

2 nights on speed six months apart=fine. speed every week=big problem.

you want someone to not be causing erratic moods in themselves via their drug intake including alcohol. and you dont want them wrecking their health. you can only get away with so much for so long in life and everyone is different in what their body will handle. one mans still drinking at 70 is another mans dead from liver disease at 40. true

They don't. I'm sober, have been for awhile, and want to stay sober.

I only date, have relationships, and partnerships with other people who are sober who do not drink excessively or nightly, and who do not use illegal drugs. This is my preference.

I have dated and had relationships/partnerships with people who smoked cigarettes, tobacco pipes, and who even used even chewing tobacco. I do not use any tobacco and if they wanted to smoke in their house it was fine but I just didn't smoke or chew any, and in some cases they used mouthwash.

This is a little delayed, but if u end up reading this... hangovers are caused from dehydration, as well as most headaches. Whenever I drink I always drink a full glass of water before I go to sleep, maybe more, and since I've started doing that I've NEVER had a hangover

Just look at all those pills and shit for not having a hangover the next morning. They're filled with vitamins, maybe ibuprofen but most importantly WATER!

I never took those hangover pills they sell in stores, and advertise on TV. But if you drink way too much alcohol like I used to drinking lots of water isn't going to get rid of a hangover or prevent it.

i made huge mistake going on acid together with my only gf i ever had, that stuff doesnt make social or confident at all.I regret it everyday

moral of the story, dont do anything more than weed with your GF,even if u are reincarnation of Timothy Leary lol

From my experience, you should just be honest...I was with one girl for a few months and I was smoking weed pretty much everyday but she told me up front she hadn't smoked for 2 years and wasn't about to start now...but she was also a bit of an alcoholic, so, yeah...but we were cool with each others DOC because we were straight up about all of it. It was cool mainly because she already knew everything about weed, so it wasn't like I had to explain anything to her about smoking or why I liked to smoke - that was dope as shit, actually. Lol, she'd also wait for me to get fucked up at a party, off of weed and alcohol, and whenever I had gotten to this point of just being fuckkkkeddd for the night she'd find me out of nowhere and be like, 'Heyyyyy'..

Was with another girl a while back and we smoked weed together all the time...it was pretty tight, for a minute, but I was always really self-conscious when I fucked her, since I knew she was stoned as all fuck...even though it was just weed, it was kind of weird that we were both fucked up on it, I don't know, I'm also a Scorpio so I have these really dark thoughts on jealousy of all types...not saying that I bring that up on my first dates though.

Also remember this girl in high school who I courted for a few months, and we were just starting to date, but she very randomly found out I was smoking weed from a friend of a friend and she was PISSED...it's funny how she excoriated me at the time considering how much more harmful shit I've come into over the years since then...

We are both bartenders at different places; we both drink & I have a Costco sized bottle of Black Label on the bedstand. Before him, I only kept a little coke in my bag for rainy days & it would last forever. Now we go through a ball in a month. I know that's not a lot (& I'm glad!), but we have enabled each other in that respect.

Just last week I asked if he thought we were bumping up (hah, a pun) our usage more than we should, & he said he did. His sinuses have been getting really jacked, so I suggested he snort only on one side, since that has been working for me (at least I'll be able to breath on one side the next day). We have been doing a lot less in the last few days & I'm quite proud of us.

We've done MDMA together; I've rolled for years (not often, maybe 2-3 times a year at the most) but he was my first MDMA sex. I hadn't even thought I'd want to, but it was very nice. We stick to blow now because MDMA doesn't seem to have much effect on him (I think something is off with his stomach absorption). I've tried to convince him to plug MDMA, but he won't. lol

He works a lot & sometimes I feel like he relies on drugs/alcohol to be good company to me because he's so tired. I haven't decided how I feel about that, & frankly I don't really give myself the opportunity to process it since we're rarely ever sober together. Being both bar people, it's just our lifestyle. I don't know what it'll be like when we get too old to party. I figure we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

I could never be with someone who isn't at least tolerant of my drug use. It's not important that they use(in fact, I somewhat prefer that they don't...), but we shouldn't be fighting about something that I don't plan on changing.

I know it's a bit of an old thread but it really relates to what I'm going through at the minute.

Me and my ex partner had always taken drugs together. We were both so alike and both enjoyed all sorts of recreational drugs whether at raves or house parties. We were just really close friends at first but over the time of a few months we grew closer and closer and ended up together.

Both our views on drugs were the same, they had been a major part of both of our lives for as long as we could remember...it was 'our thing'.

We both started experimenting with downers to take the edge off the comedowns after raves and full weekend binges, up until this point although we both LOVED drugs and lived to get fucked up on a weekend, it was only recreational. This changed when we both picked up an Oxycodone habit...we just used that and H to come down at first but then tried it once in the week, then twice and before we knew it we were hooked.

We both got onto MMT as we were both working but we'd still use daily in the evening after work. Now it just ended up that our relationship was just centred around opiates. Yeah we'd still go out and get wired but we were always using opiates together. The MMT all but killed my libido which didn't help things and I also lost my job which put a strain on the relationship as she was paying for us both to use and because we had made it into a habit of being together = using it was really hard to break.

Anyway as of about 5 days ago she just wants to be friends, this kills me as I still love her more than anything and I know she still cares for me but having an addiction associated with your relationship makes it so much more complicated.

Now she still wants to be mates but I only really hear from her if she wants to come round for a quick smoke and I just feel like I'm being used there massively as she knows I still want to see her.

All the drug use made us closer at the start but it's deffo come full circle and contributed to the end of the relationship.
