New server/upgrade issues and comments

For some reason tonight BL didn't allow me to log in.
Loads of times I entered my username & password but it would just bring me back to the log in page again. It didn't say I had entered the wrong details. it was just not signing me in. Eventually I got in.
 
Things I have noticed so far:
- can't enable "remember login info" to auto login, so have to login each time
- after logging in, the redirect page doesn't work
- edit post doesn't work, so posts must be perfect the first time around

If the tech team already knows this then disregard.
 
^ I've been getting them, but hours delayed. Good you mentioned it, as I'm not sure if anyone was aware of it prior to this. I thought maybe it was just me, but this means it probably has something to do with the server switch.
 
Probably already been mentioned but none of the buttons work when you try to edit a post.. save, delete, advanced, etc..

And "What's New?" is all screwy.
 
Has every long-time poster and staff member forgotten how to use a forum? "We're not going to spoonfeed you", "UTFSE", does any of this ring any bells? It's just so dismaying, you think threads form repositories of information, and then it turns out that no-one gives a large enough slice of a fuck to consider seeing if their concerns might already have been addressed.
Courtesy of Erich Generic, as a work around, the EDIT and QUOTE buttons are still functional if you open them into a new tab instead of clicking directly onto them.

i bet ali and aby are thinking having a gripe thread in EADD was not such a bad idea after all =D

if they're not thinking that then they need their heads examined.

btw edit and quote ain't working...


on the bright side babylon golden boy, i think more people do read the threads than the lazy balloons here might suggest.

You may notice I actually provided the information that you needed to solve your problems, a courtesy to which you responded with not gratitude, but with a trite insult that had all the wit and pith of a dull 12 -year-old. Your banal repetition of an issue that has already been discussed ad nauseam by an endless stream of similarly thoughtless posters before you doesn't serve anyone whatsoever, in fact it demonstrates a total disregard for the efforts of everyone involved in a fairly major upgrade, and a profound lack of understanding of the most basic ways to use a forum that you have, apparently, been a contributor to for the best part of a decade.. I hope so, I can scarcely think of a possible world in which people read threads any less than this one! I guess there's a silent majority, all the people who manage to just read some posts, and then learn the information they didn't have, and just put it to direct use to solve their problems, which is obviously the sensible and considerate way to behave.

rickolasnice is hardly a n00b, and not actually stupid either, though the fact he's not beat raas_2012 at theology is worrisome.


in a way all the posts repeating the same issues are useful because they demonstrate how important these features are, if no-one was complaining staff might think "oh well no-one cares" and do nothing.

Yeah, I was being a dick, I was unnecessarily rude. I just got frustrated, at the way this thread is going in general, and nickrice happened to get the shitty end of my moodstick. You are right, and I apologise. It was not nice of me to call him stupid. I'll say that it was the fact that I know he's neither stupid nor a n00b that annoyed me so much, and that was kind of the point I was trying to make, but that's an explanation, not an excuse, and as I say, I am sorry for the things that I said. Thank you for calling me out, knock, you are absolutely right. I just think that the admins and engineers know about the very obvious problems, and are working as hard as they can to fix them. I'm going to unsubscribe from this thread. rickolasnice, I am sorry, and you were right, I have got a sandy fanny, I'm going to have a nice long soak in the bath and a thorough douche.

Dude, that was all sarcasm, if you read through the thread and even a couple posts up, it is said multiple times how the quote and edit buttons can be used. Damn, there sure is some thick headed people around here. ha.

because it's pretty obvious what's wrong and it's highly unlikely to vary much between different members, because we're all running the same code, with a few clear exceptions which are already pretty well captured.

a really bad argument for the reasons i gave above; it is normal for "brick and mortar" user bases to discuss their problems without reporting every instance of the same problem in full to the helpdesk.
 
First of all, I want to thank everyone involved with the upgrade and migration. Engineers, admins, donors...everyone! I think this is a great move for us and moving from a .ru to .org gives more legitimacy to the uninitiated.

A couple features I can't seem to find and would love to see reintegrated if they aren't already in the works. I understand there's much to be done.

-The VB code buttons like img, video, etc. I mainly stick to EMD and it would be nice to have those buttons re-enabled.
-The "What's New" button at the top returns all the avatars, etc. I prefer the old way with a simple list of most recently updated threads.
-The "Check Threads You Have Posted In" button on the mobile skin. I really enjoyed that feature.
-The "Advanced Search" function is lacking selectivity between "return as threads" and "return as posts".

Again, thanks for everything. Sorry there have been so many bitchy, entitled posts from people about this amazing free service we all get to use. All your hard work is really appreciated and if anyone has info on those points I made, like ETA, etc. that'd be great.
