i have a spinal infection and am wondering if that could be caused by using IV pills with bottled distilled water and clean new needles everytime also rub the injection site with rubbing alcohol

^THIS. It's very possible, seek immediate medical attention. This can happen when you IV as you are bypassing every last defense mechanism your body has against pathogens. It's great that you're never reusing a needle or inserting anything into your veins that has been exposed to air let alone touched anything, whether you isopropyl it or not, be damned sure you keep EVERYTHING sterile for every step of the way. And a 0.2um micron filter is a MUST HAVE. It's the only way I can inject pills and even this doesn't protect me from infections but IIRC, most problems can happen as a result of somehow contaminating either the solution or the needle that is going to be going into your vein with germs from under your fingernails, your mouth, and other places that accumulate and are breeding grounds for bacteria.

thanks tricomb i'm being given anti biotics for it right now and pain meds and seeing drs regularly
also side not tricomb your the guy thats friends with my son right (mrflowers) i wanna thank you for letting him know about micron filters it did us both a lot of good to start using those and i buy the .2um filters but i'm trying to quit injecting it's just the infection is making my back hurt so bad and dilaudid is so week orally that i kinda have to IV it but i take the oxycontin orally

I'm glad I could help encourage him to make the right decision and eliminate the bulk of the inactive ingredients in all pharmaceuticals which can resolidify in your veins in the fine particles of your extremities and in your lungs, which is why it's CRITICAL to always use a micron filter the 0.2um are great for filtration needs. Hope mrFlowers00 feels better soon

IVDU can cause an Epidural abscess

"Epidural abscess is a rare disorder caused by infection in the area between the bones of the skull or spine, and the membranes covering the brain and spinal cord (meninges). This infection is called an intracranial epidural abscess if it is inside the skull area, or a spinal epidural abscess if it is found in the spine area. Most are located in the spine.

The spinal infection is usually caused by bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus is most common), but may be caused by fungus. It can be due to other infections in the body (especially a urinary tract infection), or germs that spread through the blood. However, in some patients, no other source of infection is found.

An intracranial epidural abscess (within the skull)."

What happened to the QUOTE function?

my gf had this lat year, spent 11 weeks in the hospital. They say she got it from IV'ing drugs, however our best guess is that she got it from her last back surgery, where they used cadaver bone instead of harvesting bone from her body. She has IV'd drugs for a long time, and had her first spine surgery 16 years ago - one of 5. Spinal infections are hard to get rid of, and they refused to do surgery on her because it was 'too dangerous given her level of infection'. I believe she had VRE. I know of other people with spine infections (all women) that got them after epidural during childbirth. Hospitals are rampant with diseases, so if you've had ANY invasive procedure done in the last few years, that could likely be the source of the infection. I hope you get better soon, this is nothing to screw around with.

Im curious as to why you would assume that the infection was from the surgery rather than her IVing drugs? It is a fairly common way of acquiring a spinal infection..IVing drugs that is..

Although noscomial infections are also fairly common, just because they used cadaver bone does not necessarily mean that would be the source of the infection. Using cadaver bone is also fairly common practice and is usually very safe.

^ because hospitals ALWAYS put this on IV drug use, which, while a prime vector and suspect, is not the only way to get a spinal infection. I have no faith in the hospital she went to, because they focused completely on their perceived source of the problem instead of fixing what was wrong. They botched all 3 of her biopsies (invalid results) and tbh we have shared gear and Im not sick. A friend of mine got a spinal infection, and they automatically assumed IV drug use... the only IV drugs she has used have been on other people, being a RN and all.... funny she was fine until about three months after the epidural given to her for her first kid's birth. The cadaver bone may have very well been fine, however the surgery and her somewhat compromised immune system may have let in something that may very well wind up killing her. The other reason we suspect the surgery is that the infection was in the spot where they did the graft and fusion.

i'm on ciprofelaxin or something to that effect and baclo somethin rather never heard of them before so i'm not sure if i'm giving you a close enough name to know what they are
