Why don't more Opiate addicts switch over to Kratom?

I hope some of you can shed some light on this, and if not then maybe Kratom simply has not caught on enough yet. This has been puzzling me for awhile now though, and seeing how at least around here Kratom is available OTC at head shops, I don't understand why more junkies don't take advantage of this awesome plant.

Dosage is def. tricky, so maybe that plays into it. I recall many first time users would either dose too high (its hard on the stomach till you get used to it) or they would, more likely, dose waaaaaay too low...

Anyway, my dad has been off IV morphine, and a much too large script of perc 10's for the past 3 years or so, and in my eyes it seems to be thanks to Kratom. And for me.....well, kratom takes away dope-sickness, even adverse reactions to Heroin that has a shitty cut in it, and it definitely smooths things over and offers a much more manageable and pleasant series of effects compared to legit opiates.

Kratom does not work for people with large habits. That's why.

If you haven't been using a long time and aren't using large amounts of strong opiates, than kratom might be a good solution... but for everyone else.. it really doesn't do anything.

I can think of alot of reasons...Most people with heavy IV habits don't even get full relief of withdrawal symptoms from kratom, consumption is a chore, stupidly short half-life, doesn't get most addicts high, heavy bodyload in high doses, can be costly if people are taking say "16 tablespoons" a day. Kratom is a beneficial plant that can wean people off opiates but the user must be willing to give up any sort of high and most likely taper their existing habits to not be partially sick when making the switch if the habit is large enough. Also when dealing with large amounts of bitter plant material it becomes tedious just to not be sick and gain no high.

^this applies to addicts with a moderate/heavy habit, with little to no tolerance kratom can be very pleasant and the switch can be easily made if the addict in question wants to get off a small hydro or coedine habit.

Yeah, the half-life is proper short, meaning it's not great for maintenance/replacement. I'm on 12 mg of bupe daily, and when I wean myself off (eventually), I'll be using kratom in combination with other drugs, to ease the withdrawals. I'm not expecting miracles from kratom, but I've heard it's been used successfully for this. I imagine I'll be using pretty high doses for the analgesic effects I need. If you're dependent on weaker opiates with shorter durations, then kratom could be an ideal detox aid. A relative recenty picked up a moderate codeine habit; she used 300 mg daily for 4 months, and when her stash ran out, she got sick, of course. I stockpile kratom for my future detox, so I gave her some Red Sumatra I'd put into capsules (she couldn't tolerate the bitter taste of kratom), and around 5 grams of it did the trick: she detoxed painlessly.

I read that in Australia, there was a rehab clinic that used kratom to get people off of heroin. Strangely, they smoked the kratom; they were told to smoke some every time they craved. Kratom apparently has zero to little effect when smoked, so I guess the placebo effect played a part here. I'm not sure of the success rates of this clinic,

Also, ain't legal everywhere.

These sum it up IMO. One man's panacea is another's Hell. Everyone reacts differently, clearly the OP benefits a lot from Kratom and it's extracts, and I've heard some of my friends compare it to oxycodone due to it being also somewhat stimulating... However, as a long time oxycodone dependent individual, I must say it's apples and oranges... And I'd rather take a tiny ass, super-mildly tasting, highly bioavailable Roxicodone than have to deal with raw kratom or even the extract.

Kratom did fuckall for me. It just doesn't work for everyone.
This. I'm closing this thread on this note. Everyone has unique body chemistry that will react differently based on so many factors there's no point in us speculating further.
