The EADD Metathread - "HR approach to dangerous drugs" branch

You need some sort of "Hope for Change" campaign slogan. I'm helping.

We could turn this into a General Discussion & turn the EADD Events forum into EADD Drugs Discussion... There was talk of doing something with the EADD Events forum, but nothing happened. I'm nt in favour of any change, nor am I against it. I haven't thought about it enough yet but that's an idea IF we wanted to seperate drugs from general discussion.

The proposal of splitting EADD into social and drug subforums has been raised a number of times as a possible way to help keep a bit of distance and separation between the more community aspects and the "proper HR" stuff. I've always argued strongly against that in the past - and have no idea if it's been suggested any time recently anyway - but I can see that there could be reasonable arguments to be made for keeping the "business" and "pleasure" side of things a bit more clearly delineated. Have no particular suggestions yet but am open-minded on the matter.
I think this could work.

How would you do it with a [TAG] for each thread, or like a totally separate forum like Events was?

I'd prefer the tag option personally but maybe that's not distanced enough

What are the reasonable arguments for such a "split"?

Spotting & dealing with problematic use might be more easy if one did not have to wade through threads about music or movies or speed wanking ;)

I hope there is a vote on what ever ideas are taken forward, and not just talk of a vote.

Not just a decision taken by a few who think they represent EADD.

That's not what we're talking about here though =D is it? This is confusing :?
Sorry boss ... I did put in some constructive feedback to Shambles tho, so I'm not just being totally flippant & delirious (currently running on not even 1 minute of sleep last night ... about to collapse. Slurring my words from tiredness and I'm only 100mls into a bottle of westons)

There is groundswell on this. 100% increase in RLPMOD membership in 24 hours. You can't quell the uprising if it continues at this speed, it'd be as relentless like the American Revolution, Arab Spring or Nigel Farage's UKIP.

Let's do this.

A tin can Squirrel Hat .. see? he's already pioneering HR in his community, and you've not even modded him yet.

^ it's not THAT complicated ... I'm sure we'd get used to it pretty quickly. Wouldn't it promote better quality drug threads too? I recon it would. Less inclined to chatter and derail

Yeah, more convinced now. Makes sense. Would probably promote the opening of more 'drugs in the media' type threads too, which we should doing more of I recon

See, this is the disgusting, selfish drugs use I'm talking about! You can't into my thread & start ranting about getting twatted, we're trying to stamp out this kinda thing! I've wasted every word, havent I, every word?

WTF is Westons anyway, some sort of foul Ale or something? ;)

So Marms is leaning towards, & MDB, desperately trying the get the last word in, is leaning against... I don't even know what I proposed... oh yeah, sorry, I'm back.

It's not come up, that I'm aware of. Not sure how that would work either. Where would the "I'm fucked" thread go? is it a business (HR) thread, or is it a pleasure thread? Would it not be OK to pass on HR information in the Fucked thread, if it was in the pleasure forum? What are the reasonable arguments for such a "split"?

It was a "thing" when I was on staff. And in the example you give I'd say the Fucked Thread would go in the social side and of course you could give HR advice in there. There were a lot of arguments on both sides - was discussed by staff at all levels at the time but was quite a while ago and can't recall the arguments off the top of my head. Not off this particular head anyway. I was dead against it and still am on an instinctive kinda level. But I can see that it could make things easier for passers-by, lurkers and the like. Pretty sure I'd still have have some of the some - or similar but moved on a few years of whatever changes have changed in between times - concerns too but it was only really discussed by staff at the time from memory. But... my memory... hehe. It's also something that would be good to get feedback from actual users who may not be such regular posters from cos we really can only guess at what they think from the bubble that we post in.

Hehe. What do you think of the fact that if the mods do let you vote on any changes, it would only be because we felt inclined to do so :D Your ability to make your desires known still rests on our whim.

I don't think I represent EADD. I don't think I represent anything or anyone, and no-one represents me, they may claim to but they don't.

However I am a moderator, it's more of dictator-like position really, although you get to complain about us to our masters all the way up to Liberal Media's mates. And at the point, you have no recourse.

The powerrrrrr!

Might be a good idea to collate all the ideas we've had so far in anticipation of a (non squirrel related) poll?

Think so far we've had: Split off the forums, have a harm reduction sticky, edit posts that give questionable advice to reflect that, mod harm reduction posts more stringently.

Doesn't necessarily have to be a one option only thing, could do more than one of those. Or none. Or we could re-purpose ourselves as a basket-weaving forum or something. Have a poll on this in a couple days when more people have had a chance to weigh in?

I vote basket weaving. It sounds not only therapeutic, but positively useful. I have lots of stuff lying about that I could put in woven baskets.

Christ doing that for knock's posts alone will be a full time job!

What better timing to create a new Squirrel Overlord?!

The current EADD mods do a fucking fantastic job.

But Dans is correct here (surprised he never posted a photo of beetroot in here TBH). All anyone can do i highlight when a dodgy combo or dodgy behaviour is discussed. This already happens.

Any time i have asked a question about combos or dosage I have always had a correct HR answer. I ve never had "its not recommended but you'll be fine".

There is a lot of baiting and string pulling going on in this thread.

EADD is a excellent source of HR.

See, that's how I see it too, although my confidence about that was shaken a bit. I was starting to wonder "what's the point?"
