Hunger Games hehe loved it!

I know a lot of people are sayin "the book is better" but hey I enjoyed it, plus I really think that Jennifer Lawrence's acting was much better.

^
Did you just see the first film or did you see Catching Fire in the theater?

I might go see Catching Fire because of my throbbing love for Jennifer Lawrence. Definitely want to see her in American Hustle when it comes out in a few weeks.

I'm four movies past last years record of 156. So I'm now up to 160 for the mathematically challenged. Watched two yesterday, a Matthew Broderick double starting with WarGames [1983] and finishing with Biloxi Blues [1988]. Enjoyed them both a lot more than I thought I would, especially WarGames. Thought it would be corny and outdated, but I still found it to be entertaining.

Catching Fire :)

I saw Kickass 2 a couple of days ago. I was ok I mean it was entertaining but it was lacking something and I think it's the excitement on the scenes.

Nobody Walks

certainly not anything new. connection, time, being lost in life. i enjoyed watching it. reminded me of High Art. plot's pretty much the same, minus the dope. the actress is cute. got the androgyny down, feminine. and praying mantis eyes.

the second lena dunham film i've seen and not disliked. too bad Girls looks unlikable.

I liked the twist in this movie. Very entertaining and I give it a 4 out of 5 if you ask me. The first scene is very unique compared to other horror movies I've seen. Kudos for sure!

Friends with Kids

even my friends know about my Adam Scott problem. And it had fucking Ed Burns in it *fist to mouth*

It was alright. Great Sunday afternoon movie, very dialogue-driven (my favorite!), romantic-dramedy (the best the genre I've made up to date!) yet it felt like I had seen it before.

That's all the review I have in me.

ender's game

ugh, does anyone know how to ADAPT shit any more? does anyone know what adaptation means? this is more of a highlights of scenes from the book, skimming over interesting concepts and plot points as a paint by numbers task. i only kept interest because i was recently made familiar with the source material. if i hadn't, i would not be following much at all, let alone caring. probably the same reason i hate the harry potter films, all complete non-events.

ben kingsley is awesome as usual.

now you see me.

it was a great watch, and very intriguing although in parts out of nowhere it got super cheesy and waned my attention. overall, i enjoyed it and loved the psychological/magic side of it, but something was severely lacking. it was like the writers got excited during the intense scenes and laid bore some dragged out fillers inbetween. still worth the watch for a lazy night in :D

...kytnism...:|

^looked pretty if you really didn't want to think anything. try not to think at all about it, it will spoil very very quickly.

it's been several years so i wacked in a high quality copy of jacob's ladder. as awesome as ever.

The Family

this isn't a real movie. it was just picked by my family as something to watch after xmas. dinero shines. versatile. amazing action/comedy. about the mob.

Frances Ha

really cute title. the whole movie is cute. the lead actress is very likable. i felt so bad for her when she's at the airport after visiting her family. i thought she had to do it without pills. easy to relate to the content. lost and alone in life (not as expected), with the end of your 20s very much in sight. time jumps forward in the same fashion as other artsy films on similar subjects. even though the last scene is adorable and a smile, i'm not sure about the few before it. compromise leading to content. just snaps into place. so bill murray's right, and it does get easier? the movie came short of offering the same escape. awkward and often pretty.

Might go to the movie theater shortly and have to decide between American Hustle and The Wolf of Wall Street. Want to see both, but not sure which one I should go to. Leaning toward American Hustle because it's 50 minutes shorter and I've got stuff to do afterwards.

I don't know though. WoW Street has Leo. LEO! Hot! But on the other hand American Hustle has Jennifer Lawrence in it. HOT! Decisions decisions.

Oops, was supposed to put this in the random thoughts thread. Last movie I saw was Cloud Atlas. It was alright. Kept me interested for majority of it's 2 hours and 40 minutes worth of film. I have to think more about the film before I can come up to a conclusion. It left me with a lot of questions and I haven't thought enough about the connections between characters and between time periods. It had a lot going on.

The costumes and makeup in the movie were amazing! I was very impressed with the transformation a number of the characters made. I didn't even realize a few of them were playing the characters they played because of how well the makeup/costume was. I'm surprised they didn't get more nominations for that.

Re-watched Fail Safe and I have to say it might trump Dr. Strangelove on my list of nuclear holocaust films. If only for the ending.

Irreversible (recommended to me by Black Rabbit of Inle ;)) - directed by Gaspar Noe starring Monica Bellucci, Vincent Cassel and Albert Dupontel is a 2002 French mystery thriller film. It is a movie about two guys who tries to avenge a raped girlfriend. Excellent movie with brutality so if you are not used to scenes that will make your stomach turn upside down then get ready for this.

Also the only confirmed use of infrasonic sounds to instill fear and dread into the viewer (if your speakers can actually play the sounds that is).

I remember watching that in the cinema. The ticket window, and two ticket checkers on the way in all warned me about it. A woman left the cinema halfway through calling the crowd sick or something. It was an interesting experience.

But I find the film's ad lib dialogue dull and boring.

The Downfall, or Der Untergang. German language film starring Bruno Ganz as Adolf Hitler in one of the best performances I've seen in any film, pretty much. It's the tale of Hitlers final days in the claustrophobic Fuhrerbunker, as Berlin falls to the Russian onslaught in scenes resembling an apocalypse. My favourite war movie of all time (I've seen it quite a few times now). This is a shocking film; in one scene, Magda Goebbels is seen poisoning all of her children to prevent them from "living in a world without National Socialism" and this is based on fact, as is the whole film.

4.5 out of 5 IMHO

Edit: just watched Filth, the film adaptation of irvine welsh's novel about a corrupt cop, it stars James mcavoy, as a coke-addicted, sociopathic, bipolar cop who makes Bad Lieutenant look like a stand up guy. If you've read an irvine welsh novel or seen Trainspotting, you'll know what to expect: a cynical film that shocks and pulls no punches. (The direction kind of reminded me of Trainspotting, actually).

3 out of 5 IMHO

i just wanted something about a cute, lost mid 20s that i could crush on. this was an alright fix. it being korean made aspects of the plot confusing as fuck. nothing important. the girl is nice, shy, and pretty. it takes a long time to become the cliche, quirky romance. all the nonsense about money is unnecessary. could have chopped it shorter.

Rush 2013

A movie about the rivalry between former Formula One racers Nikki Lauda (Daniel Bruhl) and James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth) in the 1970's. Daniel Bruhl is nominated in the Golden Globe wards for his performance.

12 years a slave.

Absolutely amazing. One of the best movies I've ever seen. McQueen's direction is superb, Chiwetel Ejiofor's performance is stunning. Gut-wrenching drama. A must-watch in my opinion.
