Coroner calls for 'legal high' ban after death of Swindon man

A coroner is to write to the Home Secretary asking for a ban on a "legal high" drug known as AMT following the death of man from Swindon.

An inquest at Salisbury Coroners Court ruled the death of Christopher Scott, who was 23, was drug related.

He took two green pills during a night out in Swindon, which tests found were alpha-methyltriptamine, known as AMT.

Mr Scott had bought the tablets from a friend and died in hospital five days after taking them, last July.

Coroner David Ridley said he will write to Home Secretary Theresa May with his concerns about the death and another fatality involving AMT which occurred in Dorset.

He said if Ms May does not consider banning the drug, he will want to know why.

Mr Scott's father Michael said: "The term legal high is very misleading. Once you start saying it's a legal thing people assume it's been tested and is fine to use."You get the misconception that it's an OK thing."These legal highs are not worth the risk. It's like playing Russian roulette out there now."On Thursday Mr Scott's family is due to meet Conservative MP for South Swindon, Robert Buckland, who has been campaigning for AMT to be banned.

Any information about how much aMT was taken, or whether it was mixed with anything?

Is aMT next on the ban list? That's one we really don't want to lose

It has indeed, and it's been around on the RC scene for many many years, and used responsibly too.

My concern is that since the UK RC vendors have started pressing aMT pills, there have been an increased number of negative stories in the press
 
I don't think so Albion, pretty sure that was just the APBs and 5-IT, and I've got some aMT from a UK vendor recently
 
aMT is still legal, it was 6-APB & 5-IT

Those 5-EAPB things are just nasty, I was sure 6-APB was going to be the new MDMA, shame it got banned.
I'm no fan of stims but that had promise in my view.

Still never tried aMT myself, anything 12 hours long these days is too much for me, even if it is banned it will be tweaked & back out on vendors sites in 3 weeks like everything.
 
Rip to that guy. I first saw this on bbc West Country news on the tv and they had a pic of a green pill in the background and it had a $ sign on it and I'm sure thats those pma pills that were going around a while back. Maybe the pic was unrelated to the story but it was defo a green dollar sign pill.

Amt has been around for years and has always been legal in the UK tho I'd never heard of it until legal highs started getting big.

Used to love the stuff but gone of it lately it just don't feel the same anymore dunno why.

Its always managed to keep under the radar until now I think its cuz its just notas ppopular as the other RCs cuz its a required taste most people prefer stims this is more if a psychedelic. The guy more than likely took too much expecting a stim buzz. Also it can take nearly 2 hours to kick in it creeps slowly.
 
might just get some as it's dirt cheap.

I thought the body load killed it and said i'd never take it again, but it was damn good when it was good, lovely euphoria and accessible trippiness. Shame about the puking though.

luckly we re fortunate that people are concerned about us and ban what may harm us.
 
im sure that was dripping with sacrcasm king me. You know fuckin bee stings or weird allergies kill more people that this one person that has died. Obviously its terribly sad for everyone who knew him, he might just have been allergic to it ? What does it feel like to people that have taken it ? Dirty and nasty, or clean heavenly bliss ?
 
How does it feel? It's hit and miss. Though the times when it's 'hit' are very enjoyable indeed.

I've taken it on occasion only to feel like I had the flu, and the nausea / shitting can be a problem but most times I've used it it's been a great experience. It's like a few different drugs rolled into one.

I wouldn't characterise it as either 'clean' or 'dirty' though - it's fair to say that it can be both.
 
I just really hope etiz doesn't get banned.

if that happens a lot f people are truly fucked.

Well said mrcientist - I've always had mine in a solution where I've known the mg/ml or straight powder.
Pill-pressers will be putting xxx-mg in their wares and won't know the first fucking thing about aMT!!! :X
It's ofcourse very possibly that they're whacking other stims in there too, and even though aMT has very slight MAOI properties that don't usually warrant concern for most people, if taken in massive doses and then mixed with booze and Tryptamines or Phenethylamines or both!!!..... :|
