[St.] Mary's Church (Llanfair) [in] the hollow (pwll) of the white hazel (gwyngyll) near (goger) the rapid whirlpool (y chwyrndrobwll) [and] the church of [St.] Tysilio (llantysilio) with a red cave ([a]g ogo goch)

;)

That is quite poetic really. I guess the guy was more of a poet than a dick. Wales was the land of poets and drunkards at some points in history.

It's not really poetic though, is it? It's exactly the opposite. It's extremely prosaic and literal, all romantic notions of Celtic identity aside.

I'm firmly in the 'guy was a dick' camp, I'm afraid. :D

In the hollow of the white hazel near the rapid whirlpool and the church with a red cave. I'd call myself a poet if id written those words. Remember this is just a part of the the name of a railway station, sure beats Old Ham or Bury or Hull etc., It sounds better in welsh of course, and something is lost in the translation. Its the opening line of a poem, i wonder if he continued to complete it.

'In the hollow of the white hazel' i reckon thats the best bit, now im stoned and benzoed. I think he should have stuck to that, and would be remembered for better reasons than he is now, he got a bit carried away with himself didnt he, to say the least.

Im coming round to join the 'dick camp' so to speak, though there does seem to have been a spark of something extraordinary about the guy.

I've forgotten about bupe wds for the last few hours, maybe beer really does help, even though i dont like it, ill have a medicinal can for the next few weeks and see if it consistently delivers.
