First I want to mention that I'm fully aware of the dangers of MAOI interactions (Serotonin syndrome, seizures, hypertensive crisis, etc).

So I've tried MDMA (5-10mg) and moclobemide (150mg & 300mg [On separate occasions]) and both times, I've noticed some very strong somnolence.
This seems strange, as on their own, both of these drugs are known to be able to cause insomnia.

I was wondering if anyone knows the cause of this.
Could it be because MDMA releases serotonin into the synapses and MAO-A can't destroy it so much more of it is left to be metabolized into melatonin?
Also, is 10mg MDMA enough to reverse SERT flow or does it only act as a reuptake inhibitor at such a low dosage?

Could you describe what you're experiencing a little more? This isn't necessarily paradoxical, you can feel sleepy and still be unable to sleep. Also intensely pleasurable feelings can feel almost like drifting into sleep.

The experience was very strange, and my memory of this event (which happened a few months ago) is very cloudy.
At first, it was slightly stimulating (maybe in anticipation to the result of my experiment), but then my alertness level rapidly dropped (it greatly diminished the symptoms of my Generalized & Social Anxiety Disorder).
I felt ever so slightly relaxed on a "peripheral level" (the Sympathetic nervous system perhaps?) to a point where I felt a bit weak (somewhat similar to someone waking up in the morning).
The experience was certainly pleasurable, but I wouldn't consider it intensely pleasurable, but then again I don't seem to get much pleasure form opiates such as codeine(60-80mg Oral) and Hydromorphone (1mg Oral).
It felt quite dreamy and was different from Antihistamine, Benzodiazepine or Opiate induced drowsiness.
During most of the experience I felt the need to lay in my bed in a state that I can only describe as feeling as though I was awake, but at the same time having just been pulled out of deep sleep during the entire duration.
During this, I even managed to fall asleep even though it was 6 PM (18:00) and I have delayed sleep phase disorder.
