Oh no, where am I?
To the sneaky alterator who renamed ED!!!

Good choice on the rename... should be a lot more clarification in here :)

But goodbye ED :'(

Everyone elses thoughts?

I thought this didn't seem like a waste of creating a new thread BECAUSE I NEEDED TO SAY A PROPER GOODBYE TO ED.

Since I joined here, ED has been where I like to come and chill, it has the coolest and most loving crowd that seriously is a community that cares about everyone's serotonin levels and making sure everyone is drinking water without any dramas or fighting. I seriously love this place, that's why at heart WE ARE STILL ED !!!!! <3

I like the rename and even though nothing has changed apart from a name, my soul is still intact and I haven't had an emotional breakdown yet.

JUST IN CASE IF ANYONE WAS WONDERING.

Maybe this thread can also serve as a recovery support to all effected in this very troubling time for us all 8) <3

A better name would be:

MDMA & Entactogens

because it conforms to nomenclature presented by Nichols et al in the seminal paper on the class: Derivatives of 1-( 1,3-Benzodioxol-5-yl)-2-butanamine: Representatives of a Novel Therapeutic Class (J. Med. Chem. 1986, 29, 2009-2015)

Nichols et al said:
The a-ethyl phenethylamine derivative 1-(1,3-benzodioxol-5-yl)-2-butanamine was prepared. An asymmetric synthesis was used to prepare the enantiomers of this compound and the related a-methyl homologue (MDA). The racemates and enantiomers of both compounds were evaluated in the two-lever drug discrimination assay in rats trained to discriminate saline from 0.08 mg/kg of LSD tartrate. Stimulus generalization occurred with the racemate and the R-(-) enantiomer of the a-methyl homologue and the S-(+) enantiomer of the a-ethyl primary amine. No generalization occurred with the other enantiomers or with the N-methyl derivatives of either series. Human psychopharmacology studies revealed that the N-methyl derivative of the title compound was nonhallucinogenic and that it had a new, novel psychoactive effect. It is suggested that this compound is the prototype of a new pharmacologic class that may have value in facilitating psychotherapy and that this class be designated as entactogens.

Rog for ED mod 2013/14

+1!

Where the hell did you pull that from, I could in no way remember that subconsciously and remembering to quote it IN THE MOST RANDOM EVENT EVER THAT ED WOULD GET A TITLE CHANGE like sweet almighty googness gracious hahahaha +1 indeeeeeed Rog that was very smooth!

There isn't much room for debate, imho. "entactogen" is a formally defined term, coined by Nichols in the seminal paper that introduced this class of drugs to the world; "empathogen" is not a formally defined term, it was made up after the fact, and therefore is closer to slang terminology than an actual designation.

Empathogen isn't necessarily incorrect, but entactogen is much more correct and is the term that should be used formally.

Totally off topic but Roger... you avatar is dancing along to Griz quite magically! RIP ED!

Am I the only fucking person who still calls MDMA ecstasy?

I do! Well depending on who I'm talking to. I wouldn't dare ask for Ecstasy around where I live cause I'd end up with a cocktail of chemicals just like "Molly"

But when I'm with my friends I'll call it MDMA or Ecstasy. :)

I don't think the fact that it's been defined by one person means it's any more formal or not. Nichols could just as easily written his paper using another term, they are near completely interchangeable.

"Empathogen" vs "Entactogen" vs "Entheogen" is just a matter of semantics
