Retro Game Emulators?

The Pokemon games are like all your other retro jrpg styled games, except it's a holy grail for competitionists and ocd collectors/hoarders, since you can catch and train them all!! As for starters, Leaf Green ofc =D

If you like those, try the Megaman Battle Network series, same genre, but more twitch heavy on the battles.

I've got nes/snes/gba/ps1/ps2/n64 emulators, and nes/snes/gba/ps1 on my android. On PC some of the different shaders you can use really make some of the older games pop.

I've never played a pokemon game in my life, I might have to check one out to see what all the fuss is about.

I LOVE the harvest moon series, and right now I'm playing an excellent little strategy game for the SNES: Aerobiz Supersonic (the sequel to Aerobiz). It's an RTS and you play as the ceo of a plane company, you have to set up from scratch and set up flight routes all over the world, buying better planes, and advertising etc.

^What's up with the Pokemon games, btw? So many people say how great they are.... are they pretty much like other RPGs, but better somehow? Which Pokemon game would you suggest I start with? Thanks :)

hey didn't seeyour post maybe it's a bit late to answer... anyways I've played pokemon since I was like 10, and boy I was hooked. have played over 400 hours of pokemon emerald on my old gameboy advance.
I thinks the best one is pokemon red tho (if you can't get past the outdated graphics try fire red, an updated version)
actually don't really like the newest one, pokemons are becoming too strange looking 8(

I wish I still had my psp, it deserved so much better success than it got).
yeah man there are lots of good games for psp. ever played monster hunter freedom? one of the best game ever created if you ask me, HUGE longevity (played well over 500 hours ) and it's just friggin rewarding when you manage to kill a huge monster after a 40 minutes fight!
also prolly the most frustrating game ever, when you lose for the silliest reason after 30 minutes of grinding a monster's balls and having to begin the quest again...

Funny you should say that - I'm actually playing MH freedom 2 Unite right now, excellent game. Right now, I'm using an emulator, but soon I'll be buying a proper PSP handset; they're cheap, but the games can be pretty expensive and difficult to source. Can't wait to play vice city stories and the MGS games on a proper handset - it's not the same on a phone or tablet (touch screens are a pain in the ass).

Yeah, the on-screen buttons are uncomfortable and imprecise; and those old school games are tough. At least you can buy little infrared game controllers though.

If you've an android phone there are dozens to choose from, but here are some good ones: nds4droid (Nintendo DS- frame rates are slow but updated regularly) epsxe (playstation-works perfectly) SNES9x (best snes emulator I've ever used). n64oid (also works brilliantly) PPSSPP (psp emulator not many roms work). These are just the ones I use, but there are shit loads more out there. You do have to pay for the emulators themselves, but the games are all free from rom sites. Obviously, to play stuff like psp and playstation you'll need a pretty decent phone.

If you want, I can pm you how to get the blackmart alpha app; it's like a pirate version of the play store, only all apps are free. You can also get all these apps for free from the Aptoide website.

On an unrelated note, the video mix pro app is awesome: it's free and they have links for pretty much every film and tv show ever made, including the latest cinema releases; this can also be downloaded from Aptoide. (Play store pulled it for blatant copyright infringement).

Got ps1 and snes game emulators on my phone a couple days ago. Ive been playing chrono trigger and legend of legaia. nostalgia overload.

I love those games, but my favourite SNES game of all time has to be Earthbound. I'm frustrated right now cause I cant get MGS portable ops working on my phone. Also, the memory requirments of psp roms is just wiping out my sd card; some of them are up to a gig in size. Can't wait to get my actual psp console -I had one years back but sold it.

I also want the NDS4droid app to get the framerates sorted out, many games are just too slow. I managed to get GTA Chinatown wars working though - great game. I'm also playing Urbz, the Sims spin off.

^I wasn't very impressed with GTA Chinatown Wars. Switching back to a top-down perspective was a bonehead move, imo.

Still have yet to play Earthbound, though I did find a copy. I'm currently playing through Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance for GBA again. Great game, though obtaining the Bolt Book is a bit taxing (but worth it, since the Bolt Book + Holy Book spell makes the rest of the game relatively easy [it's practically a game-breaker]).

It wasn't the best handheld gta (IMO that honour has to go to vice city stories for the PSP), but it was pretty decent; I found the top-down view pretty nostalgic actually. I was never really into side scrolling games much, although I loved the metro id series for the snes.

Not exactly retro, but I'm really into my PS2 right now - play it far more than my neglected 360, cause the library of games is so strong, not to mention dirt cheap. I'm playing Scarface and the Warriors, and I've got a massive pile of them to dig through.

yeah there are lots of great games for the ps2 if you can get past the outdated graphics. take as an example gta s.a., I've played out for years and still find it fresh and quite enjoyable. I even consider it better than vice city stories, and that's saying a lot

Shit, I actually preferred SA to GTA 4 (havent played 5 yet). There are just too many good ps2 games to even list. Yeah, the graphics are nothing special, but can be pretty impressive on the later games. I wonder if theres a cable you can get to somehow convert ps2 to play in HD? That would be amazing.

word man. GTA s.a. is waaay better than GTA IV. haven't really played it a lot but s.a. has a big ass map with lots of different enviroments and stuff to do, and a hell lot more of cheats.
also san andreas has that unique nigga-gangsta feel to it esp in ganton (being the reproduction of compton ), and the nostalgia factor is very prominent too.
truly a masterpiece.

Damn right a masterpiece. Rockstar just nailed that boyz N the hood, early nineties LA thing, just like they did with vice city. And the music, whoa...They know their underworld Americana. In contrast, their next gen offerings are very of the moment ie meh.(except the flawless Red Dead Redemption)Let's face it, they perfected the sandboxer, and the ps2 was loaded with their copycats. Mercenaries is fantastic, right now Im struggling to enjoy true crime NY; Just enough to like there, but just enough to hate to give up on the thing.

I can't help mentioning RE4, MGS3 and 2, also loving kingdom hearts and PGA 06,07. Can't forget GT 4, too.

I can honestly say I'm not tempted by the nextbox (or nowbox) or PS4. I've got my ps2, my 360, and like 8 emulators on my phone; I've got more games than I'll play in a human lifetime right now.

I'm with you man. why bother with these new fancy ass games with spectacular graphics but totally lack the appeal of old generation games. I would rather play a older game like half life (the first, another spectacular game) or tes morrowind and there are tons of little gems to play so really why bother? also to me outdated graphics are a plus sometimes.
because in the end it's the gameplay that matters isn't it?

and yeah how couldn't I mention the music in gta s.a. ... I could spend hours just driving trought the desert listening to radio x (excellent selection of music there) or hanging out with my niggas in da hood killing ballas listening to radio los santos.... good times

Haha, I did end up buying the SA soundtrack in the end, and the vice city one as well. In contrast, I felt the GTA 4 music was just Horrible, so bland. I think I will end up buying the new gta tho.

But yeah, it's seems to me games are getting shinier and prettier can't argue that -but they're too easy, it's like they're designed to be interactive movies more than challenges, and so the gameplay definitely suffers in the end.
