Hello all,

I have been doing a lot of research after the drug GHB, beside the quick addiction it might create on humans it seems like a relative low potential damage drug to me. Metabolites h2o co2 and mainly working on the
gaba-b and GHB receptors in the brains?

I was wondering if some of you have more information regarding this topic.

Thanks!

Not sure what kind of info you're looking for, but Erowid usually has great info, and links to other resources if needed.

I don't remember the specifics but I think GHB causes neurotoxicity through the GHB receptor.

i have used gallons of ghb thru the years and noticed no damage physically or mentally...then again, its quite hard to tell if damage has been done mentally lol..with ghb the bigest risk is going into a G-coma at the wrong time, when you are driving or around family etc etc..the addiction risk is a little overstated....i know plenty of people that have used ghb and only 1 became addicted to it..

as someone above posted, GHB does exert excitoxicity through the GHB receptor. the same receptor has pro-convulsant and stimulating effects, and is responsible for the euphoric aspects of the drug.

however, one dose won't make you brain dead. alcohol is a neurotoxin and most people who drink occasionally have no problems or signs of brain damage.

GHB on its own is not neurotoxic in humans, i don't think. It doesn't activate the GHB receptor selectively, it also activates GABA-B which works to help stop excitotoxic damage. Most people seem to be able to use it for quite a while with no ill effects.

the two big concerns are acute toxicity (taking too much and aspirating or falling or otherwise injuring yourself while incapacitated) and dependence/habituation. Like alcohol, if you use it more than about once a day, you will eventually become dependent on it.

I am fully aware of this, although I would like to do more research in this drug. If this drug is really not that harmfull at all why isn't everybody using is more? Are there really this less risks (assuming you do not overdose ofcourse). Are there any ways to stop the small amount of damage it causes?
This seems like an ideal long-term drug and perfect replacement for drinking aswell? What am I missing here...

Like alcohol, if you take it regularly it will eventually lose efficacy. and if you take it consistently, you will eventually get dependent on it.

I am more talking about an usage of once a week, how about that?

^pretty clear above that once a week is not much of a risk at all. maybe if you used every single week for the rest of your life, but not likely

everyone's different... some people become fiends, others don't, maybe if you do it a few times a week you'll have trouble from holding back from using a little more often... maybe you'll be like me and get bored of it and move on to something else lol.

well i used ghb once a day for quite awhile, possibly a year or longer and i noticed no withdrawals when i stopped...if you are going to take ghb keep it to once a day at the most..strangely ghb is my favorite drug but i never developed addiction to it despite having lots sitting around..opiates on the other hand was a completely different monster..

The stigma of GHB being a rape-drug, even among drug users. Also, a lot of people use it recklessly in combination with other substances, including alcohol. Alcohol + GHB is a recipe for disaster, having led to numerous deaths. Then there's also the steep dosing curve, with a lot of (again, reckless) users not measuring their dose (in grams of GHB, not ml) exactly. A little extra can mean the difference between the best buzz ever and just nodding out randomly, potentially leading to very dangerous situations.
I wouldn't say GHB (or it's brother GBL, which I personally prefer) is completely harmless, but I will say it's safer than alcohol. As long as you're responsible in using it of course.

GHN has been used for upwards of 20 years now and nobody's observed brain damage from small doses, orally administered to humans.

.

You mean GHB right, small dosis as in the dose required to feel a good effect?

Link to the source? Would like to read more about this.
