As I'm fascinated to the point of obsession by words, I have to ask: How did the word "beetle" come to refer to a blob of molten gear? Is it because it moves a bit like a beetle? Because if you let it cool and go solid, then bend the foil so it flakes off, it looks a little bit like part of a beetle's wing case? Or something else?

(Also wondering if this is the first time anyone has combined etymology and entomology in one question .....)

No, I've only been getting gear cut with benzo the last 4 weeks, before that I was just getting barely okish gear. It seems that the benzo cut gear has been going around the UK much longer.

I've been off the cigarettes nearly three months now and I don't miss them at all! Although I have an e-cig stuck in my gob 24/7! I wish there was a good substitute for heroin seen as things are still fucked up in Dublin!

Ructions I think I may have had some gear similair to what you described about 3 weeks ago - it made me fairly tired which gear doesn't tend to and I have a pretty huge benzo tolerance ( I still don't think it'd benzos in that gear but it definite was something sedating like an anti-histamine effect or maybe a barbiturate)..but it has definitely picked up where I am and it all comes from Dublin anyway. I will PM you the area in Dublin that it is got from (though the deals have gotten terrible as the fear gets better - I'm talking .15 for €25'so
I don't know if the weight is more
Expensive in Dublin or if the dealers are being jus greedy here

I've been searching the internet looking for the statistics for the number of drug related deaths. I remember I posted these statistics on one of the early heroin drought threads here on Bluelight nearly 3 years ago, but our old posts are gone. And I can't find the chart now.....

I'm looking for figures of people who die from alcohol, cigarettes, benzo, heroin, coke, Hash (zero!) MDMA, etc.

I'm trying to show how legal drugs kill far more people then illegal drugs do. It doesn't matter if the figures are from Ireland or the UK. I've been searching for ages, but I can't find the info I'm looking for. Its gone 1am and I haven't even started this damn essay yet.

If anyone knows of such figures can you post me a link? I know the Irish magazine "Brass Monkey" printed the figures a few years ago (that is where I originally got them) and it was shocking to see how much more people die from alcohol, cigarettes & benzos. I wish I could find that link or any link....

Hey ructions. Not sure if you're looking for Irish figures but here are charts for drug related deaths in the UK for 2011 (also 2010)....

This compares to 81,400 tobacco deaths and 8,644 alcohol deaths last year. The ONS records alcohol and tobacco deaths differently from “drug deaths” so suicides and deaths such as road traffic accidents while under the influence aren’t actually included in the alcohol death statistics but they are included in the drug death statistics making the real disparity even wider than is apparent here (more on this in the footnote).

Just a quick question here, has anyone else come across this really light gear atm?
It is a slight tan colour to it, it seems to be very lumpy compared to usual stuff & is what I call a "creeper" as it doesn't hit right away but when it does it knocks you out, i've had this stuff now for a few days but it gives you a really savage headache after.

I will get a photo later on today & stick it up to show you what I mean by the colour & texture.

This is the exact info that I was looking for! Thankfully the class I was doing the essay for was cancelled today, so I can add these figures into my essay now.

I don't know why I couldn't find these charts? I was googling "statistics for drug & alcohol related deaths Ireland" then "statistics for drug & alcohol related deaths UK." Then I googled every variation of that sentence you can imagine, but I came up with nothing. It was really late last night when I was doing my homework, I left it all till that last minute and I was rushing. Nothing has changed since I was in school 25 years ago, I still cram everything in at the last minute!

So thanks for posting these charts, I couldn't make my point properly in my essay without these figures, but now I'll be teachers pet!

You gotta take into account that waaay more people smoke and/or drink than do heroin. I mean, like 20 or 30 percent of the population smoke, but only zero point something percent of the population consume heroin. E.g., if the group of heroin users was 1/200-th as large as the group of smokers, the data would indicate heroin is deadlier.

That's probably the reason why this BBC programme put alcohol at number 5 & tobacco at number 9!

Problems caused by alcohol and tobacco go beyond death. Death can be simple to deal with. Alcohol and tobacco cause physical and mental problems (ever worked in a psycho-geriatric ward? I have) that are much more of a burden financially and emotionally on society than illicit drugs.

Noooo! I never put any of my kids pic's on Bluelight, I've never even put my own pic on Bluelight. With the stigma attached to heroin I'm not gonna post photos.... My kids are grown up now, they are adults. Its a long time since I had a wee boy. I've gone back to college as a mature student. I'm a bit old for all this homework craic!

Thanks for the video. Your a star! I'm gonna watch it now. "Heroin on the NHS" is another great video that we have all shared many a time on this thread. Its a documentary made by Doctor Clive Froggatt who was Margaret Thatcher's adviser on NHS reform, but was forced to resign when it was found out that he was a heroin addict. I spoke about him a lot in my essay, he is a pretty cool guy! Not coz he is a heroin addict, he just has great ideas and views!

In another year i would have been sitting going woe betide me at the week I've just had cursing myself and my life for my silly weakness and why me. Not tadya, for tomorrow I still live. I went back to work last week, had little money, then got money at the weekend , had a cold, had period pains, couldn't keep up with the life rushing from here to there and there to here, needig the gear to keep me a going. well today i am penniless till the weekedn so i can't do gear, I don't have rushing around to do, but that's the way it goes. I quite like feeling normal but i also like that gouchiout feeling. It does get too much though. I'm rambling and slightly under the influence. but this is the level I like to be at, it's the greed that gets me but also the mad rushing around. I'm just happy that i don't get really depressed about it any more and really glad that my cold has gone as have my period pains/ next moneth I'll see if I can go it alone/
