Hmm, I'm with you on nuclear power but not on fracking yet. I might be there at some point in the future, I agree with what you're saying about oil and dictators and I'd rather we weren't funding the Nigerian space programme so that we can get a sniff of their huile if they'll let us in the future but I don't know enough about fracking to make my mind up yet.

knock - glad to hear it. love me some women lawyers. round here theyre all usually either posh or asian, which i love. combine it with the mandatory intelligence and im a naughty puppy dog in the palm of their hand.... erm, sidetracks aside - if you need to dicuss anything on court procedure and dont fancy paying her for it, give me a shout. oh and six hours aint that bad, i did 26hours in one as a 17yr old babby with a heroin addiction. six hours = a kip and a meal (the beef hotpots aint actually too bad, better than 90% of the guff you get in prison - tasteless curries and cold pasta fridays... bleurrgh)

Silly to see the human race and the starfish as seperate entities.
cheesy but true.

which makes no sense whatsoever now pontifex has deleted his comment...

justin - wave/tidal power, like all renewable forms - are hopelessly inefficient and extremely expensive to set up and maintain. if it were possible to make it pay, it would already have been done. i guess the point is, yeah we're all concerned about the future.. but most normal people are more worried about getting through the working week. being able to afford to heat their homes, thus the main factor (in this age of scandalous energy prices) - is cost. just as with most lefty pursuits, its shows a seperation from reality usually associated with being comfortably well off and unconcerned with the opinions of those who arent. a generalisation, i admit - and in a perfect world, id want it all green powered too. alas, the world is anything but perfect - and nobodies paying my bills but me. besides, to be so reliant on shady and unpredictable sources for our power is an utterly foolish way of doing things

Eh... sorry for going mental last night. I had some Al-LAD which was, as I said, not stellar, but it was real. Then I decided to try to get some sleep as I had to take the car to get MOTd in the morning (5 months overdue). So I drank wine and had some etizolam. Not a lot, just a little. Next thing I remember is I'm in the middle of the gas works down the road, and some cunt is chasing me. I tried to get over a fence but failed. He phone the cops. The cops came. I got in there by going through a huge break in a fence, I've taken pictures now.

Anyway I've been charged with section 54 or something which is trespass with intent to steal! I wasn't going to steal anything! I was just out for a wander!

I'm making no comment....... whatsoever............................................... except can you open the fucked thread for later, hopefully you won't be joining me tonight haha

@ BHM
but as i said - heres a quote from the independent
"George Osborne's plan to drive down energy prices through a shale gas revolution was dealt a blow when Britain's sole active shale gas producer said that even a boom would have a “basically insignificant” impact on prices."

We're also giving them tax breaks, and ive already mention the EU thing [ cant be arsed to find a link or quote at the moment.. ]... EDIT but i did end up looking through my internet history to find the article that mentioned this EU price-fixing thing...and it appears that was all in my head and possibly not an actual thing...funny how the brain works ay?

To me it looks like the old boy network is gunna tear up the country side for a few million quid and normal people like us won't benefit in any way.

ps - as for you saying "if it were possible to make it pay, it would already have been done." I disagree I don't think any government anywhere has had the will to really try.

im sick of all this lefty shitestirring re fracking. its exactly what happened with nuclear power a few decades ago, absolute hysteria from idiots over something they have no clue about. if we'd been allowed to get on with it, perhaps we would be more like france, with 80% nuclear power - instead of in the state we are today, under the thumb of russia for our gas and the worlds worst dictators for our oil. i cannot afford to pay much more for gas/electric, and green technology has abjectly failed to deliver on its far flung promises. it looks like we're sitting on huge reserves of shale gas, lets use it. those with a problem can frack off

Hmmm, I wouldn't call the current debate over fracking as 'lefty shitestirring' at all. Unfortunately, there just isn't enough evidence that hydraulic fracturing is completely without serious risk to the environment. Also, your comparison with nuclear power is flawed because nuclear power CAN be completely safe IF properly controlled - and we have the knowledge and technology to ensure its safety (barring accidents of course). However, no-one currently knows the consequences of injecting millions of gallons of water under high pressure into the ground beneath our feet. All manner of substances could be forced into the water table - e.g. the rather dramatic videos on youtube of highly flammable gases coming from your domestic taps. Also, there is the risk of compromising the stability of the ground itself. I would normally be the first to support innovative scientific practices, but fracking seems to me to be rather lacking in proper scientific evidence, and the Government propaganda of 'cheaper fuel bills' just doesn't quite cut it as far as I'm concerned...

The first thing individuals can do is look at their own energy consumption and find efficiencies. The next ten years should see an improvement in batteries for common devices such as mobiles etc. even kinetic devices that charge from movements similar to wind up radios will start to see many people's energy usage decrease. If you compare the typical 70's house hold to today you see our reliance on multiple tv, computers etc that have drastically increased out individual power consumption. The use of solar might not be relevant in grey old England but mini wind turbines on top of every chimney would help generate enough power to charge a lot of these devices.

Next look at the poor heating efficiencies of our houses. Encouraging underground heat exchanges and subsidising energy efficient designs in all new housing would also help. For the most part though people are too lazy to change. They would rather blame the government that take any real personal sacrifices

oh yes, the solution to all our problems.. mini turbines atop the house

fubar - the anology was in sensationalist outcries on supposed dangers of a new technology that in fact, turned out to be unfounded. yet still linger on in a public dislike for said technology. theres nowt wrong with nuclear, yet nobody wants a plant within a hundred miles of where they live. besides, its all up north right? doubt i'll feel the earthquakes all the way down here. stop whining and clear the shelves of heavy objects, i say

Yeah, I get yer point man, I really do. There is always going to be resistance to new technology, but I feel that THIS technology is founded more on propaganda rather than actual facts..

It is all about the 1 precenters. If you had more than 3 hours of sunlight a year you could save yourself the heartache and go solar. Most of my neighbours generate enough electricity with their solar panels that they actually generate an excess which is sold back into the grid. In other words they make money from nothing. You can either complain about energy prices or be proactive.

You can turn your telly off standby, recycle your baked bean cans and take the bus to work and still won't make a dent in the amount of carbon the human race as a whole produces.
We all should do as much as we can, but the idea that its our fault is flawed IMO. Industry, shipping and power generation are still the main driving forces behind climate change and those things wont change with out some effort of will at the top.
So yeah. I do blame the government. I blame them for being short sighted fools and i blame them for sucking the cock of the oil and gas giants.
