Hey all-

I have been prescribed Benzo's for years, about 8 to be exact. I go on and off of them to avoid a life long addiction. I went to my new general physician who happily gave me 2mg Klonipin a day he just asked I go speak to a psychiatrist he asks this of all his benzo patients. So I did I have seen shrinkys for the last 8 years as well.

The second the psychiatrist saw I received a Klonopin script she immediately took it away from me her exact words were " This medication is addictive and has no benefit, it works on the same receptors as alcohol"

Now I have to go see her again tomorrow she put me on Limotrigine and Hydroxizine which made for a terrible month, and IMO this is terrible medicine.

Here is my situation, my Father was a chronic PCP user and dealer he has Major Bi-polar disorder now, and I do to, I have been hospitalized for schizophrenia and Bi-polar disorder. Me and the doctors came to the conclusion, My fathers days of Blasting PCP in drug houses could have cause hereditary chemical imbalance. Some times when I was young and laid on my back my body would seize up and I wasn't able to move until someone rolled me over my entire motor skill system would shut down.

Now I have tried every chemical balancing drug on the planet, seroquel works perfect for me, however the physical side effects are unbearable (tremors in my legs and head) and twitching.

The only thing that takes away my brain disease ( I know its just temporary ) Is Benzos.

I am a happy guy with a good life and family I can make it either way but this BIACH shrink is making it so I need to go get alpraz and klonaz on the black market when I really need it to preform normal activies like walking out of my front door.

Plus benzos help me not use any other street drugs, when they are pulled from me I start tripping and using MDMA when I am steady on them I can avoid drinking and drugs all together and live what I believe is a normal life.

What do I do? If she doesn't help me tomorrow is it wrong of me to write a letter to my clinic as a complaint? What can I bring to the table as far as information on the benefits of benzos?

I can obviously just get a new psychiatrist but the rest of them are booked three months out, she is only booked two weeks out.

My general physician said if she wont give them to me he will, however again I will have to wait a week or two to see him.:o

Doctors don't have to prescribe you anything. Sure you can complain, but I'd find another one.

Clearly you are one of the people whom benzos really do help, although I certainly can't blame your shrink for what she said. The number of people who are scripted benzos for no good reason and get addicted probably outweighs the population of legit use.

Another thing this doctor may have considered is your age and maybe just thought automatically you were abusing them. But she should have taken in consideration also the fact you have seizures before abruptly cutting you off. That's probably why she prescribed lamictal because that's supposed to work for seizures too.

Thats a pretty crappy way to treat a patient but as the above poster said, the docs dont have to write a script.
I would advise against complaints and protracted arguements with the psychiatrist as she wont admit fault and will proberly turn it around and make you look like a drug seeker.
If she does that then it might cause issues with your GP (who sounds pretty cool) and make them less willing to prescribe for you.
I would try and get a telephone consult with your GP and explain what happened to your last script and hopefullyyou will get a replacement.
Oh yeah, book in with a new psyche or you might end up in the same situation again.

If you are not really wanting/needing the input of a psychiatrist, why not just let the GP prescribe or you. Seems odd he insisted you see the shrink, but will go against the advice of the shrink. I started off going to a shrink, then when stable, switched to having my GP prescribe for me. I liked the shrink, but trying to schedule with him was nearly impossible.

A lot of GP's don't prescribe benzos other then small dosages for short periods of time.

"My fathers days of Blasting PCP in drug houses could have cause hereditary chemical imbalance."

I'm sorry, but this is just wrong. There is zero evidence to support such a theory and any so-called professional who would say such a thing is an idiot. Find a different psych doctor stat.

Mental illness is hereditary to a large degree, as is drug abuse/addiction. Your dad was likely self-medicating his symptoms the same way you're attempting to. Hydroxyzine/Vistaril is a truly horrific drug in my experience. While I agree that daily use of benzos is not ideal, it shouldn't be a problem if you're taking them as directed and not abusing them.

It is illegal for her to take the drugs from you that your paid for and were prescribed, I would write the medical board a very professional letter asking for them to pull her license, ESPCIALLY if she didn't dispose of them in front of you. As far as the law is concerned she stole a schedule drug from you and can be charged with petty larceny, and as far as the law is concerned she should be drug tested to see if she took your drugs to use herself if you didn't see of her flush them down the toilet or properly dispose of them.

I mean why do you think the DEA has drug disposal days? B/C passing controlled substances is a huge deal, even to doctors as they aren't above the law.

How do I know this? Most of my family are doctors, maybe differetn states different laws, but one thing is for sure. I had major surgery and then chemo and first stopped subs for 1 day, then got a crapload of dilaidud pills, and then switched myself back to suboxone for the chemo. I wanted to be good and so I took the last 6 dilaidud pills and a script of ativan all prescribe from other docotors he knows I was taking for him to get rid of to show I am serious. He said he can only do one thing with them, destroy them. So he we counted the pills there was some sheet, and then once by one dropped them into water and let them dissolve and counted them and flushed them and had me, him, and his NP sign as witness.

No fucking way a doctor who didn't give you the script can take or demand your script from you, even if you abuse the. THey aren't the fucking police, she woudl actually have to call the police and tell them you are abusing your prescribed meds even if that is a crime in your state.

Write a letter to the medican board of the state, i swear to god they love going after doctors or even the smallest things.

if i was in your position i would have called the police, the state police b/c they know state narcotic laws very well and could have arrested that physc in front of you.

Meh the Doctor is right in a way, i'm on a low dose of clonazepam daily (sometimes higher when i feel) and i know i'm gonna go through some hell getting off them. They are just a mask, they make the problem 5x worse when coming off them.

But what she did was pretty unethical.

i feel ya mate.
but our health care, judicial, legislative.. whatever the branch or case in the united states are unethical by nature.

i self medicated after putting up with therapies and drug pushing doctors for years. not advised, but plausible.
they just toss you around, go see this, then go here, pay that, then this.. all the while we are suffering. sickening.

Have you tried to call you GP and ask them to call in a new script to last until you see him/her next week? I would just ask for the exact amount needed until you see him next.

Good luck. I rely on benzos much like yourself and would be a much different person without them.

Go to a different psych and get the meds from your GP in the meantime. A doctor shouldn't just take away a medication away from you like that, especially if you've been using it for 8 years.

Writing a letter of complaint might help, but I doubt it'll get the doc to give you what you want - it's just best to move on.

Also, your dad's drug use didn't affect you directly. He could have been on the most ridiculous drug combination when he "made" you, but it would still not fundamentally change you. If your mother used drugs while she was pregnant, that's a different story.

Man you fucked up. Look, when you go see a female shrink you must:

1) When you enter her office, look sad, look at her and then look surprised, then gradually begin to smile as though she brought light into your life.
2) Look embarassed by looking sideways while smiling and avoiding to stare at her directly.
3) Cover your crotch and keep your butt restless on your chair to make her think you got a hard-on.
4) Agree to everything she says, while gradually staring longer into her eyes, looking mesmerized.
5) No "but", "no" or anything of the kind.
6) If she gives you other medication, go to the ER with "severe reaction", book another appointment and tell her what happened.
7) Repeat the procedure until she prescribes Klonopin.

They're all controlling bitches, if you make it look like you're weak for her, you got her in your left pocket.

Well first off thank you everyone for all the pro-active insight. First off My GP is making me see her, I ended up going in this morning and told here the lamotrigine and hydroxizine were of no benefit, the lamotrigine helps regulate mood but has poor side effects and the hydrox is just weak and makes me drowsy.

So she asked me what helped me in the past and I told her seroquel but I cannot find anyway to get rid of the tremors so I cannot take it, and the only other meds that really help me live a normal life are Benzo's.

She jumped back into her saying that Benzos are like alcohol today she even compared them to a cocktail and they do not serve medical benefit only in severe circumstances.

I was keeping my mouth shut I did not want to say to much. I simply got a firmer voice and informed her that is just her opinion and people who battle brain disease can find a benefit and can use benzo's correctly. I informed her I have been seeing a Psychiatrist and psychologist for the last 8 years and I have always taken a one week break every month to avoid long term addiction, I also informed her I was using 5-HTP and GABA and I use essential oils and all positive holistic medicine.

I told her her opinion seemed biased and I simply would just go get other counseling. She looked at me and said alright you know what your talking about, she said it was only right I try Buspirone but she gave me my script back for Klonopin.

WOOHOO No more melting brain due to panic disorder !!

BTW whoever said children of PCP users cannot receive hereditary symptoms is absolute BS. I have had CEVs and OEVs since I was 5 years old and a traumatic motor skill impairment. My grandparents did a lot of H, Crack cocaine and LSD, These could have effect on me as well, however I am almost positive it was all the angel dust my parents were into that messed with me, it was the thing to do in the early 80s here in Minneapolis.

Earthbound did your parents blow pcp hits in your face as a child? Thats about the only way i could see it affecting you. PCP was used in medicine until the early 60s when more effective anesthetics came on the market. I have never seen a study or even theory that pcp damages dna in offspring.

^^^ No they didn't blow hits in my face but it was very common there friends would gather and blaze PCP all night in our house as a child. It wasn't anything out of the norm back then. However I firmly believe this could have trickled down to me when I was born or it was my Grandparent's LSD use My grandpa Graduated Harvard right after Leary was fired. I got no idea what drug issue I got hereditarily but my doctor was very intrigued in the PCP past of my family

Keep in Mind street PCP isn't as clean as what was used in medicine brother, the PCP game and reality is fucking crazy and disgusting all in its own right.

Most of my dads team from then are in Prision for life thats how big it was for me growing up, my parents had to end up cutting peoples faces out of pictures in our house to avoid affiliation. My dad fled the game when two of his crew were murderd right here in Minneapolis found in the trunk of cars.

Unless anyone else has grown up in an angel dust family please keep your comments to yourself. Your right the psychologist at minneapolis's biggest pysch ward was probably wrong when he discussed this with me, ignorant bluelighter's are probably more intelligent then him and his 20 years field experience.

But who gives a fizzy I got my Klonopin! :)
