Hi everybody, so I just went to my doctor because my anxiety and panic attacks have started coming back. I told her when I went in that I did not want any benzos because they are so addictive. She gave me Mirtazapine for anxiety. My question is, have any of you used this medication for this reason? Were there any withdrawals when you stopped? Did the medication work for you? Any thoughts or feedback would be helpful. Also the dose she prescribed me is 60, 15mg tablets, 2 at bedtime. I haven't taken any yet. Thanks guys.

They help you sleep that's for sure.

Mirtazapine was prescribed to me for depression. I don't recall the dose but it knocked me out hard. Maybe start with one 15 mg tablet and see how you react to it. I would take it an hour or two before you plan to go to bed.

Yea I looked it up on WebMD. lol. they say that it is prescribed mainly for depression, I already take Zoloft 150mg a day. but she wanted to put me on klonipin again, I don't want any benzos. I will try this tonight and see what happens. Good advice I will try 1 first. Thanks.

You may have some morning grogginess but should adjust pretty quickly. Try taking at 7/8 pm. I don't foresee any morning trouble.
But you may want to have some coffee ready just in case! Good call not taking clonazepam too, remeron worked better for me. :)

Ok thanks T. Calderone. This makes me feel a little at ease. I hate trying new pills. lol. Yum coffee sounds good right now! Think I am going to make a pot. :)

^ One of the downfalls of Mirtazapine (The Anti-Anxiety/Depression) SSNRI that works in a different way than normal SSNRI's is that Mirtazapine is that it can cause a significant amount of weight gain.

This is why a lot of docs tend to stay away from using Mirtazapine.

i was prescribed remeron (mirtazapine) for chronic insomnia and it didn't do shit and also didn't help my depression or anxiety but i've heard people say it helped them and i also didn't wd when i ceased use but i've also heard people say that they had wds when they stopped

Mirtazapine (30mg) worked great for my anxiety in the beginning and I found it to be an amazing sleep aid. I started at 15mg and the first 2 days I was so out of it so I had to drop the dose to 7.5mg. After a week I went back up to 15mg and every couple days I slowly increased the dosage until I was at the wanted 30mg.

After a year on it I did a fast one week taper and didn't have any withdrawal. However I've read others who taper for months and go through hell trying to get off it.

It was hell to come off for me, a week of nausea (it is a 5HT3 antagonist) and depression after being on 15mg for 2 weeks. But I have heard some people come off it with zero problems and some experience hell.

It is a very potent h1 antagonist which is why it will make you feel very drowsy and foggy at low doses, but as you increase the dose you build up a bit of a tolerance to the sedative effect and the noradernergic effects of the drug kick in where some report it be a little stimulating rather than drowsy.

As mentioned it does not work in the typical way of an anti depressant through the SERT transporter rather IIRC works directly on the receptors/auto-receptors. SOmething about blocking either the a1 or a2 autoreceptor increases 5HT1A neuron firing... Not sure its been a while but a quick search will show you exactly

update, this is my third day taking this drug, I think I am starting to feel some effects, mainly less anxiety. the doctor told me it could take a while to start working, also I forgot to mention that I also take 150mg of Zoloft a day as well. and I heard it is hard to come off of, but I will cross that bridge when it is time. I also didn't get any drowsiness from it lol. I guess my brain is used to downers.

When I started on it my brain was used to 50mg diphenhydramine every night for 10 years and it still made me groggy as hell.

I feel ya...I was 5'9 and 125lbs when I started on it. I stopped smoking weed for the first month and gained 25lbs. Then I started smoking again and my weight dropped back down to 135lbs.

Very sedating med. Weight gain, waking up in the mild of the night to eat, grogginess. I'm prescribed 30 mg and I'm tired of it. Wanna get off but I've tried plenty of AD's and I'm almost out of options. It seemed to help me and seems to have pooped out some how. I can see how it can be used for anxiety but so could a heap of benadryl. The sedation\clinical benefit ratio is terrible.

Oh yeah weight/gain and hunger is definitely a side, another way to bulk up.

Have you considdered a higher dose? They are supposed to be less sedating
