Which Benzo is best suited to my needs?

Hey guys,

I stopped drinking a year ago because, well lets face it, I'm a horrendous alcoholic. However, I have found that recreational drug use seems to be fine, even before I stopped drinking drug use was always in moderation, I could actually leave a bag of MDMA, a sheet of acid tabs or a load of benzos lying around until I actually wanted to take them. Booze no chance, I have one drink now I'll be blacked out till next week.

Anyway, I do get pretty edgy when I come down from stimulants which I used to remedy with alcohol. Now that's off the cards I use a sensible amount of valium or a mild opiate.

With access to EDIT:Removed Source I have a large selection to choose from. Basically I need it for coming down, which one would you suggest, I'd rather one that wasn't so sedating as valium?

My mother currently has sciatica and the pain has turned her nerves into shit and she has panic attacks from it. I maintain a close eye on her usage and I have seen it's a last resort but it's something the doctor won't prescribe unless 100% necessary. I can see she's using them very sparingly but what do you think would be best to calm her nerves? Xanax? I don't really know the intricate differences between different benzos.

Thanks guys!

Valium is probably the best of the commonly Rx'd benzos for muscle relaxant properties. Xanax IMO is more sedating and really just good for panic attacks, it comes on very strong and only last a few hours. All benzos are sedating, clonazepam is a little less so than diazepam, but it disorients me more and provides less muscle relaxation. Lorazepam would probably be the best one to try, it tends to be mild for most people, but I like its effects.

Also is this for you or your mother or both?

Valium or k pins. Will do the trick Valium 10mg twice daily or three times should help a %)lot but remember to step down afterwards.

FYI don't source (i.e. mentioning the SR).

Clonazepam seems pretty good for what I need it for, I don't mind being a bit more disorientated after being out pulling retarded shapes on a dance floor.

I don't particularly want to give her a very strong one at all, she reacts quite strongly to benzos as it is. I think lorazepam might be a good option. Oh well I'll Ginnie Pig them first anyways to see what I think compared to things she's taken before.

I appreciate your answer but I don't plan on either of us using them frequently enough to start a physical dependance.

Do you know what this sucks (i don't mean for me.) These are the only tablets that have ever helped during the intense pain of her sciatica, she was ill for months and off work for 8. She had a full on nervous breakdown. It's the only medication that has ever worked but the doctor flat out refused to continue prescribing it. I understand there are addiction risks but I know my mum... she was on morphine for god knows how long when she was younger after surgery and had no problem stopping and never thought about it.

If your mother is a senior citizen I wouldn't risk it; drug metabolism in the elderly is riddled with variables that often just aren't the case for the rest of us, not to mention the increased probability of falls, as well as accidents due to memory impairment.

There's probably a good reason her doctor won't prescribe benzodiazepines.

I think every benzo besides klonopin is useless because of how fast they seem to stop working and you just feel like you need more throughout the day.

With klonopin once in the morning and once at six pm,this to me was the only arrangement of benzos where I didn't feel that feeling of needing more throughout the day. And trust me, I've been on almost every benzo under the sun.

What has your mother tried other than benzos for her sciatic pain. There are medications designed specifically for nerve pain, i.e. Gabapentin (Neurontin), Lyrica (pregabalin(sp?)) and Baclofen. All of them mainly effect the GABA receptors, which benzodiazepines also effect. But they are designed for nerve pain, as opposed to benzos which are designed typically for mental illness and seizures. They are a much better choice as a long term treatment option, due to the risk of dependence being less prevalent.

Sorry if your mother has already tried these meds to no avail, but they seem more logical for the condition than benzos. Some anti depressants have been shown to help sciatica, too. Apparently Cymbalta, an Selective Norepinephrine Re-uptake Inhibitior (SNRI) has been reported as a good treatment option.

I agree with RTrain. Maybe a benzo is not the best answer. There are a myriad of antidepressants made to help problems like this. However, if you are hell bent on obtaining a script for benzos your best bet is klonopin. Super long half life, very effective, tolerance doesn't build up as fast as some other benzos and it doesn't make you all that lethargic.
